Puritan Life Insurance Company of America

Puritan Life Insurance has been my insurance company for one year. In that one year, I had a outpatient surgery. I was extremely satisfied with this company. from day one, more so after surgery. I plan to remain with them. As Aetna is their Underwriter, I am more comfortable still.

On Feb 22, Puritan Life Insurance Co. had written a letter informing me that my application for insurance coverage was declined. Also in the letter, I was informed that I "have the right to see and obtain copies of documents relating to the decision. On March 2, I mailed a letter requesting the latter. To date (Mar 18, I had not received any word from the company. So I decided to call to find out the status of my request. I was put on hold about 5 times and talked to just as many women, with each asking for my name, policy #, and date of birth. I would think giving that information once would be enough. To say the least, I am very dissatisfied with my dealing with the company and am somewhat pleased that I did not get health insurance coverage from the company!

I have a Medicare Supplement policy with Puritan Life Insurance Company. I pay the premiums using auto-pay. If need be, I wanted to be able to change the bank from which the premiums are paid by accessing my account at Puritan over the internet. I was told by Puritan that they do not allow their customers to access their own account using the internet and that to make any changes I would have to do that over the phone. Furthermore, I wish to track my paid benefits history at my account at Puritan using the internet and learned that they do not allow their customers to do that. This is terribly inconvenient for anybody used to using the internet to manage their affairs and discriminatory toward the hearing impaired who have difficulty using the phone.
