Complaint: ***I am rejecting this response because: we do not find it a reasonable business practice for a school to retain one month's tuition after the program's teachers clearly state that they cannot handle a child's behaviorWe agreed to leave, assuming that they would return the next month's feeIt is relevant to note that the director was not present in the teacher meeting, and thus her recollection of her staff's statements in the meeting are secondhandHer teachers stated that they had new, younger children soon entering the class, and that they could not deal with our sonIn a separate incident the day before, the school's co-owner sent us a written text message stating that our child was a danger to other students and that they did not have the staffing to manage itThe messaging from the school was very clear, and we responded in kind. parents to formulate a plan moving forward. On 5/29/15 the teachers facilitated a meeting not only offering examples of the extreme behaviors witnessed, offering suggestions and solutions including: lessening the child's time in school by picking him up a little early or bumping from full to part-time, using consistent redirection, limiting the child's after school activities to allow a little decompression time at home and most importantly, providing him with more one-to-one parental attention from his busy parents. The child attended school, the parents left the meeting, and later that day we received this email:Hi Jen,After talking to [redacted] and [redacted] this morning, we agree that it’s best for us to keep [redacted] at home for a while. Could you please let me know how you handle tuition and registration refunds in this situation?Thanks,[redacted]to which we replied:Hi [redacted],Oh man, I am so sad for us but so excited for [redacted]. I think some time at home with you will do wonders for him. Please make sure to keep us in mind when he is ready for Preschool.You have paid through June 30, and our policy requires a 30 day advanced notice of any schedule change or termination, so he is welcome to stay through the end of June. We don't normally do this, but we will refund your registration fee of $85. We love that little guy of yours and truly wish you the best. Please make sure to keep in touch.Cheers.Jen and MadeleineOur policy CLEARLY states both in our Parent Handbook and our registration forms which are SIGNED BY THE PARENTS BEFORE ADMISSION that we do not provide refunds in cases of vacation, illness or withdrawal from the program AND that all parents must provide a 30-day notice before any schedule changes or withdrawal from the program. The parents were also told that they were welcome to bring their child and attend the final 30 days of the program, to which they declined.As a small business, we are well within our rights outlined by our policies. We will happily provide documentation of our policies and further correspondence received from the Complainants if necessary.
