Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2016/03/21) */
The vehicle was brought to us on 3/7/16. The customer's concern was that the she could not smog the vehicle because one of the Engine Monitors in the Engine Computer would not set. We told her that we would drive it in accordance to that...

particular monitor reset procedure to try and set the monitor or if the check engine light comes on, we will then have a direction to go as far as testing. While driving the vehicle in accordance to the monitor reset procedures, the electric cooling fan motor failed and damaged the fan and the radiator. The fan would have failed on whom ever was driving the vehicle, us or her. It had nothing to do with the drive process we were performing. We replaced the fan and radiator at our cost for parts and no labor to the customer as a gesture of Customer Goodwill. After the fan/radiator repair we went back to the monitor reset driving procedure. During the driving cycle, the check engine light came on and we performed the tests outlined by that code definition. It was found that the air intake boots under the intake manifold were leaking and we recommend that they be replaced. The repair was approved. When the intake manifold was removed, it was found that the air intake boots had been glued back together by someone previously. The intake air boots were replaced.
To remove the intake manifold, the DSIA valve/flap must be removed. When it was removed it was found that the pin that hold the flap on, was loose and could fall into the intake manifold if the the old valve was re-installed. (common problem with this engine type) it was recommended that the DSIA valve be replaced and the customer declined the repair. The customer was told that they must test drive the vehicle themselves, now that we know the DSIA valve pin may fall out at any time and damage the engine. The customer agreed and picked up the vehicle on 3/17/16 in the evening. The customer was advised to stop by and we will scan the vehicle at no cost to see if all of the monitors have set so the vehicle could be smogged. The leaking air intake boots that were replaced could have been what kept the Monitor from setting in the first place. An oxygen sensor was not recommended or replace. The Oxygen Sensor Monitor is the Monitor that was no setting the whole time. It monitors the air fuel ratio in the exhaust system and does not necessarily mean an oxygen sensor is failing. With the intake boots leaking unmetered air into the engine it could have caused the Oxygen Sensor Monitor to not set.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2016/03/30) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The business response to you is false they did not cover the labor and materials as stated, [redacted] the supervisor informed me that after speaking with the owner of the company the owner agreed to only cover 50% of the damages caused by there Technician. So we had to cover the amount of $500.00 in order for us to get our vehicle returned to us. When we turned over our vehicle our vehicle only went it for a diagnostic fee of $ 77.00 and it turned in to them having our vehicle for several days and then on the 4th day they called us stating the there Tech had made a response to [redacted] he was not driving the vehicle hard and the radiator fan blade broke of during his test drive and made the radiator break as well as the shroud that covers the fan blade so [redacted] called and stated we had to pay for there damages in order to get our vehicle repaired then a few days later [redacted] called again stating that in order to make the diagnostic work we now needed to pay another $227.00 to replace the intake rubber boot which was causing the vehicle to run lean and said this should make the car pass smog and then we pick up vehicle with it still not passing the diagnostic test . [redacted] said come back in a few days and they will put in back on the diagnostic test and I did and it still did not clear. I feel we should have not been responsible for the damages that they caused it was damaged 4 days being in there possesion and also for the rubber boot due to it still has not been fixed and still not able to pass smog.
My husband called on Monday the 28th to inform [redacted] that the vehicle is still not clearing for smog the person who answered said [redacted] would call back but we have not received a call back since then. We feel they are avoiding us and we feel they simply ripped us off for there negligence.
Finally we feel that [redacted] is with holding us from speaking with the owner and since it is the owner business who's reputation is on the line.
I would like a full refund due to we feel they did noting in the the 10 days they had my car. Now we are still left to go seek a new repair shop which I did and he found that the the shroud that they installed was incorrectly installed and did not have the securing pins on the top and bottom.
Thank You
