This letter is in response to a complaint filed against our business on 4/15/ Complaint # [redacted] Please update our email to [email protected] or [redacted] as we did not receive any email notification of this complaint We do not get many complaints so this is very unusual for us On 4/5/we received a Jeep Compass from [redacted] The repair complaint was that the vehicle would not start/nor would the engine crank over We did the preliminary diagnosis and determined that the Starter motor was not receiving the signal from the Integrated power module (IPM) that is needed to activate the starter Further diagnosis showed we had the correct signal from the starter switch and that the module had all the necessary powers and grounds The determination was that the IPM was faulty and needed to be replaced before any further diagnosis was done The customer was called and given the cost of the Diagnosis, labor and parts for this procedure to take place He approved We acquired the part and installed the module, we now had the correct signal to the starter but it did not activate We called and got the approval to replace the starter motor He Approved After replacing the starter the engine would turn over and start We did not notice any problems with the way the vehicle engine ran at that time There were other recommendations we had for problems we had noticed on the vehicle but the customer declined any further repair( total bill 1675.33) The customer picked up the vehicle and we did not hear of any other problems until the check was returned We contacted the customer and he said something about his taxes not getting done in time and he would come in and pay the bill (and the return fee) Only after finally receiving a check for on 4/20/did I receive a hand written note that something was wrong and that he would only pay (which we received) There are a few items I want to clarify in regard to his letter.1) The IPM is not the computer It is a power junction box that is part of the fusebox assembly, you cannot replace it separately, thefusebox and IPM are a unit We did not replace the computer as his mechanic correctly observed.2) The starter motor did not function, if it did, we would not have needed to replace it’3) When starters go bad there is usually an increase draw on the rest of the system We see this very often damage other components such as ignition switchesIn this vehicle the IPM takes up that load and may have been damaged by the faulty starter Especially if there is another issue that causes the vehicle to have to be cranked a lot to start This was something that was mentioned in the letter At no time did we experience a problem with the engine starting nor did he mention any to us other than the initial complaint of no engine cranking.4) I cannot say why the starter supposedly worked for his mechanic before without understanding how he tested it Many on car testing methods are not very reliable as they can use higher voltages than are actually present when the on car system is doing the starting This starter was not easy to access and the throttle body needed to be removed to do so.5) The price for the repair was Not 1765.33.6) I have attached a copy of the repair order.I apologize for any misunderstanding due to language or misunderstood technical explanations All repairs were done as estimated and needed It is our position that we did everything correctly on this repair and actually came in under our initial bid In our opinion he still owes us $ Please let me know if you need any more information.Thank you, Thomas (Tim) S [redacted] Owner

This letter is in response to a complaint filed against our business on 4/15/2017.  Complaint #[redacted]. Please update our email to [email protected] or [redacted] as we did not receive any email notification of this complaint....

We do not get many complaints so this is very unusual for us.                On 4/5/17 we received a  2007 Jeep Compass from  [redacted].  The repair complaint was that the vehicle would not start/nor would the engine crank over.  We did the preliminary diagnosis and determined that the Starter motor was not receiving the signal from the Integrated power module (IPM) that is needed to activate the starter.  Further diagnosis showed we had the correct signal from the starter switch and that the module had all the necessary powers and grounds.  The determination was that the IPM was faulty and needed to be replaced before any further diagnosis was done.  The customer was called and given the cost of the Diagnosis, labor and parts for this procedure to take place.  He approved.  We acquired the part and installed the module, we now had the correct signal to the starter but it did not activate.  We called and got the approval to replace the starter motor.  He Approved.  After replacing the starter the engine would turn over and start.  We did not notice any problems with the way the vehicle engine ran at that time.  There were other recommendations we had for problems we had noticed on the vehicle but the customer declined any further repair. ( total bill 1675.33) The customer picked up the vehicle and we did not hear of any other problems until the check was returned.  We contacted the customer and he said something about his taxes not getting done in time and he would come in and pay the bill (and the 20.00 return fee).  Only after finally receiving a check for 1500.00 on 4/20/17 did I receive a hand written note that something was wrong and that he would only pay 1500.00 (which we received) .                There are a few items I want to clarify in regard to his letter.1)  The IPM is not the computer.  It is a power junction box that is part of the fusebox assembly, you cannot replace it separately, thefusebox and IPM are a unit.  We did not replace the computer as his mechanic correctly observed.2) The starter motor did not function, if it did, we would not have needed to replace it’3) When starters go bad there is usually an increase draw on the rest of the system We see this very often damage other components such as ignition switches. In this vehicle the IPM takes up that load and may have been damaged by the faulty starter.  Especially if there is another issue that causes the vehicle to have to be cranked a lot to start.  This was something that was mentioned in the letter.  At no time did we experience a problem with the engine starting nor did he mention any to us other than the initial complaint of no engine cranking.4) I cannot say why the starter supposedly worked for his mechanic before without understanding how he tested it.  Many on car testing methods are not very reliable as they can use higher voltages than are actually present when the on car system is doing the starting.  This starter was not easy to access and the throttle body needed to be removed to do so.5) The price for the repair was 1675.33. Not 1765.33.6) I have attached a copy of the repair order.I apologize for any misunderstanding due to language or misunderstood technical explanations.  All repairs were done as estimated and needed.  It is our position that we did everything correctly  on this repair and actually came in under our initial bid.    In our opinion he still owes us  $195.33.  Please let me know if you need any more information.Thank you,        Thomas (Tim) S[redacted]        Owner
