Quality Inn of Birmingham - Irondale Reviews (2)

My wife and I arrived at our destination on August 13th, on our 9th wedding anniversary, and checked in to The Carolinian, a Wyndham facility, in Myrtle Beach around 3:30pmOnce we arrived at room 2136, it was immediately apparent that our room was filthy, so I called room service and requested that either we be given another room, or that someone come up to clean the room Within moments, Sandra, the only truly remarkable representative of The Carolinian, came up to start cleaning our room We were later to find out that Sandra was actually a member of the kitchen staff, and had nothing to do with the condition of the room Of course that didn't matter to my wife and me, believe me we were grateful that someone came to tackle the Herculean task of cleaning our room In a short while, Sandra concluded that the condition of the room was so bad that she needed to enlist the aid of two other members of the housekeeping staff to help her It took Sandra and her two other individuals from housekeeping one and a half hours to clean the room, after which I spent another hour cleaning the room myself My wife and I pointed out the items which we noticed when we entered the room, including blood on the sheets Later, Sandra discovered that in addition to blood on the sheets that the bed also had a blood saturated mattress pad which needed to be replaced Since I was on the balcony trying to regain my composure I wasn't able to take a picture of that, but Sandra can substantiate that what I am sharing is accurate, and as well I do have a number of pictures to validate the truth of what I am stating After the room was "cleaned", my wife and I went out to for dinner At 8:30pm, when we returned to the room we noticed that the air conditioning did not work in our room and the internal temperature of our room was degrees While I don't consider either my wife and I to be "clean freaks", I believe that any reasonable person who would be presented a similar situation would have considered that our hotel was significantly "neglected" to say the very least If you disagree, I suggest that you ride up and down the elevator at The Carolinian If you engage the other guests in conversation you will no doubt they likely will not be shy to share that they also have issues regarding the cleanliness of their room Many mentioned that they have stayed previously and claim that they will never return It may also be worthwhile for you to anonymously check in to The Carolinian to see if I am even slightly exaggerating As well, I suggest that you speak with The Carolinian hotel manager, as my wife and I did after waiting for an hour and minutes It won't take you long to conclude that our experience; perhaps extreme, is not unusual in The Carolinian Also in reference to the hotel manager at The Carolinian, you should also be aware that she took no responsibility, never offered to make amends for the condition of our room In addition to Sunday, August 13th being my 9th wedding anniversary, I also celebrated my 60th birthday two days later on August 15th, still at The Carolinian On the morning of August 15th at about 6:00am, I was sitting on the balcony looking out onto the ocean trying to peacefully find some solitude when out of the corner of my eye I saw something moving I recoiled when I saw that object moving was a cockroach climbing on the pillar inches away from my head Solitude lost, I killed the cockroach with my sandal as it scurried on the wall I called and sent numerous emails to the Facility owner, Bud M [redacted] , and only received a half-hearted apology While I see no financial gain, I do want to warn others of the nightmare they will experience at this property

My wife and I arrived at our destination on August 13th, on our 9th wedding anniversary, and checked in to The Carolinian, a Wyndham facility, in Myrtle Beach around 3:30pm. Once we arrived at room 2136, it was immediately apparent that our room was filthy, so I called room service and requested that either we be given another room, or that someone come up to clean the room.

Within moments, Sandra, the only truly remarkable representative of The Carolinian, came up to start cleaning our room. We were later to find out that Sandra was actually a member of the kitchen staff, and had nothing to do with the condition of the room. Of course that didn't matter to my wife and me, believe me we were grateful that someone came to tackle the Herculean task of cleaning our room.

In a short while, Sandra concluded that the condition of the room was so bad that she needed to enlist the aid of two other members of the housekeeping staff to help her. It took Sandra and her two other individuals from housekeeping one and a half hours to clean the room, after which I spent another hour cleaning the room myself.

My wife and I pointed out the items which we noticed when we entered the room, including blood on the sheets. Later, Sandra discovered that in addition to blood on the sheets that the bed also had a blood saturated mattress pad which needed to be replaced. Since I was on the balcony trying to regain my composure I wasn't able to take a picture of that, but Sandra can substantiate that what I am sharing is accurate, and as well I do have a number of pictures to validate the truth of what I am stating.

After the room was "cleaned", my wife and I went out to for dinner. At 8:30pm, when we returned to the room we noticed that the air conditioning did not work in our room and the internal temperature of our room was 84 degrees.
While I don't consider either my wife and I to be "clean freaks", I believe that any reasonable person who would be presented a similar situation would have considered that our hotel was significantly "neglected" to say the very least. If you disagree, I suggest that you ride up and down the elevator at The Carolinian. If you engage the other guests in conversation you will no doubt they likely will not be shy to share that they also have issues regarding the cleanliness of their room. Many mentioned that they have stayed previously and claim that they will never return.

It may also be worthwhile for you to anonymously check in to The Carolinian to see if I am even slightly exaggerating. As well, I suggest that you speak with The Carolinian hotel manager, as my wife and I did after waiting for an hour and 45 minutes. It won't take you long to conclude that our experience; perhaps extreme, is not unusual in The Carolinian.

Also in reference to the hotel manager at The Carolinian, you should also be aware that she took no responsibility, never offered to make amends for the condition of our room.

In addition to Sunday, August 13th being my 9th wedding anniversary, I also celebrated my 60th birthday two days later on August 15th, still at The Carolinian.

On the morning of August 15th at about 6:00am, I was sitting on the balcony looking out onto the ocean trying to peacefully find some solitude when out of the corner of my eye I saw something moving. I recoiled when I saw that object moving was a cockroach climbing on the pillar inches away from my head. Solitude lost, I killed the cockroach with my sandal as it scurried on the wall.

I called and sent numerous emails to the Facility owner, Bud M[redacted], and only received a half-hearted apology. While I see no financial gain, I do want to warn others of the nightmare they will experience at this property.
