MachIV Motors dropped off their 36’ gooseneck trailer in April
2014 for brakes on trailer not working properly and other repairs, (Repack
wheel bearings, rotate tires, inspect side posts and frame). Was told to perform
repairs on unit whenever we could because our shop...

was busy with scheduled
work, with this we had an understanding to bring trailer in and repair brake
issue and other repairs discussed. When we removed wheel assemblies, we found
brake linings worn and loose. We replaced all brake assemblies, repacked wheel
bearings and other repairs discussed. NOTE: Did not have truck here to road
test trailer at time of repairs.
 Mack IV Motors had
called for the invoice amount, but we did not have pricing yet. Called back to
inform Mack IV Motor the trailer was ready for pick and informed them total on
invoice. Customer picked up trailer and returned the next day because brakes
were not working correctly, inspected and readjusted brakes.
 The Appleton location
general manager was made aware at this time that the customer was upset with
cost of parts; he had found brake parts cheaper online. The general manager
called customer and listened to his concerns about the parts cost. After
reviewing the purchase invoice amount and marked up % it was found justified pricing.
The general manager did allow an approximate $200.00 parts credit as a
“Goodwill policy gesture to the customer,” and after a phone conversation with
customer explaining that the internet part may not meet OEM standard and for
their cost would be incurred for freight. Our invoice for the purchase and
parts is attached, there was a 20% markup charged to customer witch is well
within industry standard. Customer accepted credit and was not heard from in
May, June or July not until August we heard from him saying his brakes never
worked.  General Manager had adjusted
pricing on invoice and told me that the brakes are still not working correct
and Mach would be bringing trailer back in so we could take a look at brakes.
 3 months had past and
we have not heard from Mach IV Motors, I was out inspecting another customer
trailers and saw Mach IV Motor shop, I stopped and talked to them about trailer
with brakes not working correctly. When I talked to gentlemen from Mach IV
Motors he wants the brakes to lock up like they did when trailer was new. I
asked him when they dropped trailer off if they would leave truck at shop that
pulls this trailer so we could road test trailer and he said yes.
 They dropped off
trailer hooked to truck; we inspected brakes, found brakes out of adjustment,
readjusted all brakes, checked power going to each brake assembly and had 12
volts going to each brake assembly.
Road tested, had brake controller set on 6 and when you
would apply truck brakes you could feel trailer brakes apply.
 If you would set
brake controller on 10 and using slide bar on brake controller only, no brakes
on truck at all you could stop truck and trailer only with trailer brakes.
 With controller on 10
and slide bar slid over to apply trailer brakes, stepping on accelerator it
would put a load on engine but trailer brakes would still turn but not very
easily.
 Tried to contact Mach
IV Motors with phone number we had on file [redacted]; found that that phone
number is no longer in-service. Mach IV Motors called, I informed gentlemen what
we had found and done and that I would like him to take truck and trailer and
use it and to let me know what he had thought, he told me right out that when
brake controller trailer is set on 10 and trailer brakes would not lock up we
would not like it.
 I told gentlemen from
Mach IV Motors to get the trailer brakes to lock up like when they were new, we
may need to replace hub assemblies and that we would call to get pricing on hub
assemblies and we would work on labor, he said yes please do so, about 15
minutes later he called back and said to forget it he needed to pick trailer
up.
 I feel to get trailer
brakes to lock up like they did when trailer was new, trailer needs new hub
assemblies; our offer still stands if Mach IV Motors pays for hub assemblies we
will install them at not charge to resolve this brake issue on this trailer.
No contact was made to management about pursuing a
complaint. No contact by customer to Quality Truck Care Center in 3 months
