Quint City Stone Center Reviews (%countItem)

Be careful and make sure you stay on top of things!! DONOT trust that they know what they are doing. Upon purchasing my granite counter tops, the sales staff was friendly and very helpful. When the installer came to measure, we talked about different measurements and what I was looking for. The measurements were takin by hand and tape measure. The day finally came to install the counter. everything was fine, up until then. I left the installers to do their thing and occupied myself with other things out of their way. After a little while I was called to the kitchen, Four of the five pieces were glued and installed...but the fifth piece did not line up with the corresponding fourth piece. there was a breakfast bar at the main counter and that piece, if pushed up against the wall, was too short!! the installer said...THE WALL WAS NOT STRAIGHT! they "assumed" the breakfast bar piece would be the same length as the countertop. OOPS...NOT!! they had already glued down the big piece and they could not get it off. We discussed different options and I told the installer to do what he thought best. The side overhang of the counter top was a couple of inches, which was enough to allow the installer to cut some off to match the breakfast bar piece. So he decided to do just that.

The weather outside was still cold enough that the furnace would kick on as needed. If you know about stone and how to cut it, you can guess what happened. The granite top was cut by saw, inside the house, next to the kitchens air intake duct, with the front door open. The furnace kicked on, the stone dust not only went everywhere on my open main floor, it was sucked into the furnace through the vent. OH... @#$%!! I was called down when the installers were done. I looked around and could see white dust on things. The installers said they made a mess and tried to clean it as best they could. They got the two counter top pieces to match up. The overhang went from a couple inches to 1/2 in. (?) give or take a few line. It didn't look too bad. The other thing that was pointed out to me was that the support brackets for the breakfast bar top was set "on top of" the wood, instead of being cut into the wood so that the granite would sit directly on top of the wood with no space. So now they was a space. The installer said he "didn't want to make a mess" and that it could be covered by a piece of trim, and I figured..."OK". UNTIL... later I placed a piece of trim up to look at it. The trim piece I had was too small for the gap on the back side...AND... too BIG/THICK for the end. The thickness of the trim was thicker than the overhang of the granite. UGH!! But that was not the worst of it. The next morning!....

The next morning I came downstairs and looked around at the WHITE DUST THAT COVERED EVERYTHING!!! the chairs, the couch, the light switches! You could tell what switches were touched by white finger prints. The curio cabinets with collectibles inside. the shelves, the doors and knobs, the table, INSIDE THE CABINET DRAWERS!! and the laminate floor! EVERYTHING!! UGH! Overnight the dust had settled and left its mark., but, not just on that main floor!! but that floor seemed to be the worst. Remember, the furnace was on the whole time they were cutting the granite. I took the vent cover off the fresh air intake!... something that I learned to help disguise the open vents is to place black screen over the hole before putting up the vent cover. ... That piece of black screen was PURE WHITE! and so was my furnace filter!! IT was white, but so was my whole basement and three upstairs bedrooms and two upstairs bathrooms. White dust EVERYWHERE!!

I was in such disbelief...I just cried! We went back to the store and talked to the manager, and showed him the pictures. He said he would talk to his installers and the owner. After his meeting, it was agreed upon that we would receive two new pieces of granite installed, with the brackets cut into the wood, and that I would be reimbursed for the cleaning bill.

When it came time for the second install, the installers could not get the granite piece, that was to be replaced, apart. Apparently the glue really works!! At this point, I was beyond frustrated!! It was like we were at a stand still. He did not know what to do. I said for him to just leave the first pieces, but to cut in the brackets. He refused, because he "didn't want to make another mess". He got defensive and I replied that a wood mess was not the same as a dust mess and that I would take full responsibility for any mess made. He then went to his truck for, im assuming a quick phone call, and came back in and said I had to sign a paper stating that they are not responsible for any mess there after. The brackets were then installed as first promised, with a small amount of wood dust.

I feel that the attitude of the installer was uncalled for! He is the one who messed by not taking measurements for all pieces. Assuming measurements and assuming all walls are straight is not going to get you far in the construction business!! Nothing is ever straight or 90 degrees. Remodel and that is the first thing you will notice!!

Lesson learned!! know your installers, second guess them if need be, and DO NOT leave them alone thinkin they are doing everything right. Just imagine if you had white dust EVERYWHERE in your house, OR if the house was a big, fancy, million dollar house? Would they have cut the stone inside that house? Why should my house be treated any different? There are granite installers who take precise laser measurements and know what they are doing..!!!!!
Look THEM up!!
