COMPLAINT ID# ***
We would like to respond to the complaint we got for the WV Vanagon with the missing key
The van was brought to us from a local used car dealer called *** Cars
They are located across the street from us at ***
*** ***
We have been working with *** cars for over years now
They bring us cars that have minor repairs that need to be done
Examples of repairs range from: fixing non working power windows or locks, non operational radios and CD players to non working lights or mechanical issues like tune ups or general automotive repairs
We have been doing an average of 5-cars per week with *** cars over a 10+ year period
That amounts to over 2,500-5,cars we have worked on for them
We also work with all the major new and used car dealers in our area such as *** *** *** *** *** *** ***
The general procedure is that the dealer brings us a car with a list of problems it has
We check everything and reply back to the dealer with the costs for the repairs
Once approved; we order the parts and make the repairs that the dealer requested
The usual turn around time is 2-days(this includes shipping time for parts and standard install times)
So *** Cars sold the VW Vanagon to Mrs*** and brought it to us to fix a few things that the customer was complaining about
We fixed an interior light that was not working
We fixed a loose/broken sun visor
And we ordered a plastic valve cover that is on the outside body of the van that covers a refrigerator vent that was missing
We finished the light and sun visor the first day and were waiting for the vent cover to be shipped to us so we could finish and return the van
While the vehicle was here, we parked it in our private, secured, monitored parking area for 2-days while we were waiting for the part to come in
The owner of our shop parked it that day
A few days later we got the vent cover in the mail; and when my installer went to put it on he noticed that the doors were locked and he couldn't find the keys
We were locked out of the car; so we thought maybe the keys got locked inside the van; so we opened the side window from outside and removed the screen so we could reach in and unlock the door
Unfortunately the key was not inside the van
We then called the manager at *** Cars and asked him if they had a spare key; he said no, so we had to call a locksmith to come and make a new key for the doors and ignition(which cost us $110)
We even had him make an extra key for the customer so they would have a back up
After the key was made and all the parts were installed; we took the van back across the street to *** Cars and gave them Van with the new keys
We explained to Bill the Manager what had happened with the key and he was ok with everything
A few days later we got a call from the customer demanding that we pay to change all the door locks and ignition on her van because she said we "stole" the key and were planning on coming to her house to "steal" the van
I nicely explained to her that we have been in business for over years and we work with dozens of car dealers that leave us all types of expensive exotic cars and trucks all the time and that we would never do anything like that to a customer
I also explained to her how ridiculous her accusations were because they made no sense
My technicians have been installing vehicle security systems on all types of vehicles for years, and know a dozen ways to steal a car without even needing a key.
Why would they go thru all the headache of telling the customer we lost her keys and paying a locksmith $to make new keys, when if they really wanted to steal her van they could have just copied the original keys she left us?
Why would my employees do all this to steal a year old van??
It just doesn't make sense Nobody would be dumb enough to do all this to steal a vehicle
We also have over security cameras all over the place that watch over everyone and everything in or around the shop
None of my techs are stupid enough to do any of these things that the customer is claiming
And the last person who had the key was the owner of the company
Why would the owner put his business at risk to steal a customers old van?
It really upset and offended me that the customer was making these accusations against us
I wish she would understand that it was an accident that we lost her keys; and that we would never try to come steal her car or anything of hers
We have been here over years and have thousands of satisfied customers that keep coming back year after year to do business with us
We are not in the business of stealing cars from customers
I tried apologizing to the customer numerous times; as well as trying to explain how we would never do anything like she was accusing us of
I wish she understood our side of the story and knew how trusted we our with our clients and customers
As far as her gas tank being half empty; I have no idea about that
We are across the street from the dealer she bought the van from; so it would be impossible for us to waste half a tank of gas moving a car feet
We never drove the vehicle anywhere once it was dropped off
Just drove it from our shop to across the street to *** Cars
So I have no answer to that problem she complaining about
So in conclusion; we removed the screen to unlock the van so we could see if the missing key was inside We never drove the car enough to waste any gas (only feet); and finally we would never steal someones keys to steal their car/van
Thank you for reading this long response; I just wanted to make sure you guys understand that we would never ever do anything like what this consumer is complaining about

The customer brought in her vehicle and was complaining that her Air Conditioning was not working after she got an oil change with us on 10/09/14.
My mechanic checked the car and tested the A/C and came to the conclusion that her Freon level was low and needed to be...

filled and topped off.
A/C Freon cost about $40-$80 to fill.
We explained to the customer that she needs to do an A/C service which cost about $40 and up.
The customer then started getting upset and blaming us for the problem she was having with her A/C.
My mechanic tried explaining to her that we did not touch her A/C when she got her oil change done and that getting your oil change has nothing to do with her A/C not working.
She did not agree.
She started accusing my mechanic of lying to her and demanding that we fix her A/C for free or else she will file a bad review with the Revdex.com and Yelp.
I explained to her that she is welcome to take her vehicle to any other mechanic to get checked out; and if they say that we did something wrong that caused her A/C to not work anymore; we would be glad to help her fix it.
We even tried to refer her to a shop that specializes in A/C service to get the car checked out; but she wouldn't listen to our suggestions.
At this point she started becoming rude and demanding that we fix it for free because she says it was working before we did the oil change on the car; and that is when my mechanic got upset because she was accusing him of lying to her.
We clearly explained to her that getting an oil change has nothing to do with her A/C not working; but she still wouldn't listen to us.
This is when I gave up on trying to help her and told her that she is still welcome to have someone else look at the car and show her that getting an oil change can not damage your A/C; but we were done arguing with her.
This was the last time we saw or heard from her until this letter.
We will in no way refund her for her oil change and will not repair any A/C problems she has for free.
We did nothing wrong and were greatly offended by her attitude and accusations.
I am upset that she thinks we would purposely damage her A/C to get money out of her.
That is not the type of business that we run and we would rather not work with customers that think that threatening us with bad reviews will get her A/C service done for free.
Please have her do her research first before she goes around trying to give my business a bad name!!
Her A/C problem has nothing to do with her oil change!!
Thank you for understanding.

Sincerely;

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Response:
I did not accuse the owner of the business or
employees of stealing my van key or gas.  Someone else did obviously.
The vehicles being worked on are left over night in an area open to two
public streets and not locked in lot or building.  There are many (police)
reported instances of cars being stolen from similar situations after the vehicle
had been serviced at a given establishment.  There is a woman who lives across the street from me where this happened. The van in question is of high
value because they are no longer being made and in high demand.  A person
cannot steal the van without the key as the wheels and transmission gears lock
without it in the ignition.

Review: I took my car in for an oil change. My air conditioning was not working after the oil change. I did not have any problems with my air conditioning before the oil change. I noticed it wasn't working on my drive home and called the shop. They told me to bring it in to have it looked at. The shop said my Freon was bad and needed flushed and it had nothing to do with the service they performed. I asked to speak to an owner, who said if my mechanic said its not our fault, then it's not our fault. He had no Interest in helping get my issue resolved. He said he would top my car off with coolant but he would charge me for it. I told him I would be contacting Revdex.com and would write negative reviews about his shop. At this point, the mechanic starting telling me he was angry with me, for accusing him of something he didn't do. I can't understand how they can think it's a coincidence that my ac just stopped working the moment I got an oil change, and how they can think they had nothing to do with that.Desired Settlement: I would like my air conditioning fixed free of cost and would like my money back on the oil change.

Review: My van was delivered to this business for repair work. When it was picked up there was a screen that had been removed and not replaced for no reason, there was half a tank of what had been a full tank of gas missing, and the original key for the van was "lost". My neighbor across the street had a similar situation with another repair shop and when her car was subsequently stolen, the police informed her it was because someone had made a copy of her key while it was being repaired and came and stole her car. My name and address was in the van when it was being repaired so this could easily happen to me also.Desired Settlement: I want all the locks on the van replaced since my original key is missing.
