R A Rodgers Construction Reviews (1)

Review: Contractor built new roof in May 2012. I was in contact with him beginning in Summer 2012 to do a small modification to cover exposed plywood underlayment, of which he agreed to do. Beginning Fall 2012, voice mail messages and emails were never returned. Attempts were made on a monthly basis to contact him for one year.Desired Settlement: I need to reestablish regular contact with the contractor. Secondly, the aforementioned modifications he stated would be done need to be completed (as part of the original job).

Business

Response:

I was the general contractor that entered into contract to have a re-roof done for Mr. [redacted]. This included tear-off of existing roof, install new plywood sheathing, new gutters and downspouts and new composition shingle roof. I contracted out to sub-contractor's all of the work except for the installation of new plywood to roof. The roof is a hip-style roof and has gutter's around entire perimeter of roof. There where issue's with the gutter's at which I had the contractor come back and take care of the issue's that Mr. [redacted] had concern's over. The installation of roofing shingles was done by a separate contractor who is no longer doing business in the Sacramento area. I told Mr. [redacted] that I would get a hold of contractor and see if I could get him back out to his house. I never agreed to make any modification's to the roof, since there are gutter's around entire house, I don't believe it to be any type of issue.

Response:

Although

it’s possible the contractor has forgotten about the original modification request,

the issue still remains of never being able to make contact again with the

contractor.

The

contractor was contacted about a month after the roof was done (circa June

2012). At the time, a couple 3-foot edges

of exposed plywood had been noticed where the gutters ended. During the phone

conversation, a request was made to have metal flashing placed over the exposed

plywood edges ("the modification"). The contractor stated that modification

could be done and would come by sometime in the near future.

I left

voice mails and emails on a regular basis over the period of a year asking for

a call-back. There was never a response of any kind. According to the Contractor State Licensing Board website and some fellow contractors, his phone number

and email address had not changed during that time.

Since

there was no known problems with our working relationship at the time of my

request, and during subsequent phone calls; there was no reason for the

contractor to make himself unreachable.

The inability to contact the contractor raises greater customer concerns;

e.g. the possibility of contacting him in the event of workmanship or material

problems, if they were to arise in the reasonable future.
