R&D Rpoofing came out and redid our roof due to Hurricane Harvey in October 2017. Staring in March after we had some major rain storms come through we started to notice water bubb*** on our interior walls around the entire house. The walls have progressively gotten worse as more rain has come. My husband got on the roof and in the attic, what he observed in the attic is that in certain spots of the roof on the ridge vent you can see daylight coming through, you can see rotten wood, and sagging wood. When he got on the roof there are several spots all over the roof where it is extremely soft, so soft that the plywood can not bear any weight. The entire lenghth of the ridge vent between the 2x4 it is sagging and drooping. When I spoke with *** from R&D expressing our concerns he said he would come out and see it. *** did come out and see it and said the the damage to the front wall in our dining room was from the Flashing not being properly sealed. *** said he would send someone out to fix it and that he would also send somone out to do a WATER TEST on the roof to see where it is leaking from... *** had a roofer show up when we were not home and I told him via text message that we were not home and that he would have to send the roofer back when we were, since *** did not GIVE ME ADVANCE NOTICE for some one to be there.. My husband showed up a few hours later and the roofer was getting ready to leave he expressed to my husband that there were some bad spots but that it was ok, " just wore out". The roofer was on the porch pulling up shing***, and putting down what I am guessing was Tar(we have photos). I am not sure as to what the roofer did on top of the house while we were not there. My husband asked the roofer about the water test that *** said he was going to do and the roofer replied No you don't need one, our roof is just wore out. My husband asked the roofer to leave because he was not doing what *** had said that he was going to do. I talked to *** shortly after the roofer left on the same day and told him what the roofer had told my husband, I asked *** if he would be able to personally come and look at the roof, do the water test that he mentioned and go from there. *** told me that he would be coming down that Friday and he would personally come over so that we are all on the same page... *** told me on the phone that R&D would take care of the damaged walls in our dining room since according to him that was a result of the flashing not being properly installed.
I have texted *** serval times since our conversation and he has not responded to any of my text like he had in the past up until these issues. *** mentions that the roof has been windstorm approved but when we spoke with the windstorm office in Corpus Christi the inspector said that all they inspect is the tar paper and shing*** they do not look at the decking, so our roof is WINDstorm approved and that is all. *** is also trying to say that the water damage to the back of our house is condensate damage from our AC unit that is behind our house and has a line running into our attic, but that is not the case, how can we have the exact same damage on the opposite side of our house where there is nothing to condensate. Our roof is not keeping the water out and our walls are proof of that.
our problems include :
Rotted decking on our roof,
water damage to 6 of our main frame walls 2 in the front of the house and 3 in the back of our house
gaps in the ridge vent
We are currently working with the home owner and their insurance company trying to resolve the issue. We explained to the homeowner the insurance company did not pay for what they are wanting done so we are trying to help them to see if we can get it done thru the insurance.
Our complaint is still open due to the fact that *** from R&D is refusing to redo his mess ups.. At the beginning of October I contacted the Texas Dept of insurance to see if they could come and recheck our roof due to it being is such a horrible condition. Once I filed my complaint with TDI, *** the TDI inspector came out along with *** the inspection from the engineering firm that *** hired to get our windstorm certificate. They both found several issues which I can provide the paperwork stating from them in an attachment. One of the issues that was stated is that there is not a double layer of material between the shing*** and the decking, some parts of the roof do not have any thing between the shing*** and the decking... TDI, ***, and *** the engineer all agree that the roof needs to be taken off and redone. *** and *** contacted *** informing them of their finding and *** is refusing to fix any of the problems...
Among our roof problems we have had water leaking into our walls from the roof not being properly done. We need to have our roof redone and the interior walls redone...
had hired R&D roofing and remodeling LLC on 10-5-17 to give her a new roof and get it certified for a windstorm certificate which R&D fullfilled contract on 11-3-17. I *** personally walked job with client and they were completely happy as they paid the balance due on 11-3-17. Weeks later from what R&D understands is that *** had another roofer from a totally different company go out there and stated that the decking was soft/thin and that R&D should of replaced it and got the insurance company to do it so *** calls R&D and says we should of replaced it. We then explained to her we would love to of replaced it for you but the insurance as well as herself did not contract us or pay us to do so. She then got our engineer audited and found out the engineer R&D had hired should of had us put 2 layers of felt on her house as it is a unique pitch of 3/12 and the roof has to be redone with 2 layers. The engineer as well as R&D was willing to work with her, however she reported our engineer to board of engineers and now because of that our engineer no longer wants to work with her. R&D roofing and remodeling will continue to work with *** and will forgo the cost to re-roof her entire house if she agrees to contract us to replace her entire decking as the entire decking will now be unnailable. R&D has already fullfilled our original contract with ***, but we are still willing to work with her as we always go over and above to make sure all our customers our happy!
