September 21, 2015Dear *** ***:In response to the above-referenced complaint, I submit the following explanation.The customer contacted us after we installed a rubber roof on their rear deck roofHe informed us the roof was leakingWe responded on several occasions and did not find any problems
with the new roof systemOur investigation revealed the cause of the leaks to be the seals with skylight glassThis was demonstrated to the customer by running water from a hose, first on the surface of the roof and then on top of the skylightsThe leaks only appeared when water was run on top of the skylightsWe made several attempts to seal the skylight glass using various sealants at no expense to the customerWhen these attempts did not yield the desired result we suggested his only recourse was to install new acrylic skylight domes overtop of the existing skylightsWe provided the customer with a price to do this workThis work was not included or specified in our proposalWe consider this matter closed and will not consider doing future work with this customerIn fact, we are considering charging him for the time and materials expended in trying to stop the skylight leaks.Best regards,Ronald H

I am rejecting this response because: The contractor stated when he started the job that there would be no leaks when the job was completed and he was correct about the roofing job, but as I had stated previously his employees destroyed the seal on my skylights somehow and they now leak. He stated to me that he would take care of fixing the situation by using a sealant which did not work and then he tried two other types of sealant which did not work and also said that the seal was broken by his employees and that there would be no expense to me. The contractor has given me no explanation as to why it is now my responsibility to fix his errors, it was his employees that caused the problem and I do not understand why I have to pay to fix his/employees mistakes
