I am responding to complaint ID [redacted] requesting a deposit back for a pontoon rental.Customer stated that this is the Third year that she rented a boat from us. [redacted] gave us her deposit over the phone to guarantee dates requested. Deposits are taken to hold their scheduled dates to... guarantee dates are reserved. [redacted] states that we never told her deposit was non-refundable. In response to this, [redacted] also never asked if deposit is non-refundable. In our defense, we would have told her it is not refundable and that she could use it to schedule another day. We told [redacted] if we filled those dates we would refund her money.Deposits are taken to guarantee boat is reserved. Why take a deposit if it is refundable. We have limited number of boats to rent. This week that she reserved is a busy rental week. We turned other customers away due to reserving this boat for her. We did fill that spot and will return her deposit like we told her. Deposit 1: the state of being deposited, 2: something placed for safekeeping: as money given as a pledge.Pledge 1: the state of being held as a security or guaranty 2: something given as a security for the performance of an act 3: binding promise or agreement Also [redacted] stated that owner became beligercnt. Bcligerent is a strong word. Beligerent: 1 waging war, 2 : inclined to or exhibiting assertiveness or combativeness I take offense to this word. [redacted] failed to mention she became difficult to talk to and reason with.Why is the consumer never held responsible for their actions?
