I was charged for a repair that was not needed. Over charged for a repair that was needed.
On March 11, 2019, my car would not start. I had it towed to R & M Auto Center, Inc. , ( P.O. Box 511, Lowell, NC 28098) to be repaired. After the mechanic diagnosed the problem, I was told the following:
The reason my car would not start was because the battery was dead. The reason the battery was dead was because the Altenator was not working. The reason the Altenator was not working was due to a torn Altenator Belt. At that time, I was also told that the Serpentine Belt was missing.
I am filing a complaint for the following reasons:
1. I was charge for a belt that I did not need.
The Serpentine Belt was not missing. I drove to Lowes with no problem other than the A/C was blowing out warm air. When I returned 30 minutes later, my car would not start. It would crank and run for a few seconds and then shut down. I tried jump starting it, and it would crank, but would continue to shut down. I understand that this was probably due to the torn Altenator Belt, but the Surpentine Belt was in place.
2. I was over-charged for the Labor cost for the repair work that was done.
I have never heard of an Altenator Belt that needed to be "cleaned" off of an Altenator pulley. It should've been a simple matter of removing the torn Altenator Belt and replacing it with a new one. As far as charging the battery is concerned, I would've thougth that a jump start would have been all that was needed after the Altenator was repaired and that driving a few miles (with all accessories off) would've been enough to charge the battery. In the past, I've had mechanics, out ot common courtesy, show me the damage that was being repaired in an attempt to make me understand the neccessity for the repair. This courtesy was not extended!
In summary, I am very dissatisfied with the service provided by R & M Auto Center and I believe that I was cheated!

Desired Outcome

I'm seeking a refund. The total cost of the repair was $265.73. I'm seeking a refund of $118.00. This is approximately half of the Labor cost ($141.26) plus the cost of the Serpentine Belt ($48.00).
