Radio Island Marina Reviews (1)

Purchased boat from Radio Island Marina after extensive discussions with broker and a sea trial. Boat ran great on test run and all electronics functional. Assured by broker that boat in great working order and no mechanical or "running" problems. Purchased boat, ran it for less than 1 hour and electronics failed and boat stopped running. Could not get engines started even with power booster. Boat "dead." Called broker, he initially said would come out and help ("dead" boat anchored about 2 miles from marina). Over an hour later, broker called and advised that he could not help and to call sea tow to go to a different marina (as Radio Island Marina did not really work on boats and almost everything contracted "out."). Towed in to a different marina per his recommendation. Found out that broker knew of starter and electrical problems (and possibly other issues)while repeatedly telling me boat in great shape.Product_Or_Service: [redacted]Desired SettlementRefund money and take "dead" boat back.Business Response The boat mentioned above was sold by one of my sales people. Early in the sales process, the broker offered to make the boat available for survey and offered a list of surveyors. The buyer declined any survey. A seatrial was run with the customer and one starter failed. The starter was tapped with a hammer and worked thereafter. The customer stated that was probably normal given the boat had been sitting for some time and he would have it replaced. It appears that the customer anchored up the boat and the batteries did not hold. Customer called and ask for a tow. We do not have a tow boat and recommended that we call [redacted] at [redacted] because that is where the boat was to be berthed. [redacted] was happy to help and was able to get the customer back to his new slip. Since that time [redacted] has fixed a small electrical problem and the boat is functional at this time.I have stayed in touch with [redacted] at [redacted] and feel certain that the boat will perform as expected for a vessel of that age.If any additional information is needed, I can be reached at the number listed above and thanks for your help in this matter.Consumer Response This is the response I expected. Four points:1. Your salesman and mechanic said starter problem was related to not being ran; I did not say this. After I agreed to buy boat the broker then admited he had noticed this same problem 3 days prior (he knew this all the while assuring me no mechanical problems with boat).2. I did not call broker for tow; I called to let him know boat was "dead." He first said he would come out and help, over one hour later called back to say could not/would not help.3. The problem is NOT a small electrical problem.4. The most important point is that I specifically told the broker that I wanted honesty & disclosure from broker, that I was tired of missing work to travel to see a boat in which its condition was grossly misrepresented (as had happened on more than one occasion previously). Your broker told me that he understood my frustration about being mislead and that he would be honest with me about the boat's condition. Plain and simple truth is that he was not. While repeatedly telling me that the boat had no mechanical problems; he later (after I agreed to buy boat) admited that he knew (at least 3 days prior) about the problems with the electrical system, starter, and seals. Had he been honest about this I would not have agreed to purchase boat and took time off work to get cashier's check & drive 3 hours to your location.I suppose bottom line is that your brokers will tell potential buyers anything to get buyer to buy boat and if that potential buyer has to miss work, is inconvenienced, or gets stranded in a dead boat; then so what, its not your problem. Radio Island Marina can always say; does not matter if we lied, you should have gotten a survey.
