To get the record straight: When Complainant brought the clock to me, he brought it to me, CE Hardy Jeweler, not [redacted]. I took the clock into my watch shop to look at while he waited to give him an approximate estimate of $300.00.  The clock's oil had all dried out, causing some of the pivots on the wheels to wear almost into two.  I explained to Complainant at that time that I needed to try to locate parts. When I looked at the clock I could not get a good clear look at the parts.  It was only when I could get the clock into my clock shop, take all the parts apart, that I could get a clear look at parts and damage.  Once I got it apart, I could see the parts were worn much worse than originally anticipated, to the point they were about to break off.At this point the search begins to look for the parts.  The clock company and it's parts are no longer around.  One must begin the task of contacting other clock repairmen in hopes of finding the parts.  This is very tedious and time-consuming task.  Complaint called me numerous times.  Each time I told him I was still searching for the parts, it takes time.  He seemed fine with that.  I had no idea it would take so much time.  The clock is so old, there are few people with parts. He called me in mid-September unhappy the clock was not fixed and was taking so long.  He instructed me to "just bring it back and give it to him".  So I took the clock with me to meet complainant and gave it to him.  I charged him $50 for my time in searching countless hours and phone calls.  I explained to him the clock was not worked on and would not work properly without the parts.  Complainant went on to tell me had taken the clock to 3 other clock repairmen before me and they could not fix it.  In fact, they sent him to me.I have been in business since 1973 and repaired countless clocks here in the [redacted].  In fact, from all over the Country.  To my knowledge, I have had no other complaints.  This gentlemen is unhappy that his clock is in such bad repair, and inpatient to wait on finding parts.  The truth is, he may never find the part. I explained to him several times, I was in the process of trying to mill the part (actually make the part).  Again, this is time consuming, and trail by error.  I graduated in 1956 from the [redacted] (a horological institute), [redacted].  I have over 60 years experience in repairing clocks. There is no science to finding parts for clocks of this vintage.Complainant's desired settlement of finishing job in reasonable amount of time is not acceptable.  What is reasonable amount of time for a part that doesn't exist.  What is reasonable amount of time for a part that has to literally be made by hand. The $300 estimate did not take into consideration making parts.  As I see it, there is no way to make this gentlemen happy.  I no longer wish to do business with him.Clarence E Hardy,CE Hardy Jeweler

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Regards,
