HOST AND SERVER ARE NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE IN EXPLAINING OR HONORING DISCOUNT PROGRAM.
Dear whom who may concern,
"There are no spare customers", as they quoted on the receipt.
My husband and I went to Rainforest Café to celebrate our girl's birthday. The food was good, a little overprice, but worth it since the place is beautiful with nice atmosphere to bring out family. However, we had a poor experience right at the first visit. I feel it is important that the company is aware of the lacking customer service/ providing information of your host and server. I have not shared this experience with any of my friends or on any social media yet, and would like to provide Rainforest Cafe with the opportunity to respond.
My husband works for a casino that part of ***. I remember that it is part of ***. We have never gone to any *** dining places or done any researched about the employee discount. My husband never thought about going to a *** participating restaurant since he does not know how it works. Therefore, I make a phone call, hopefully their staffs would know something,around 3 pm, and spoke to Alexa and told her that we are ... casino's employee family and wondering if we would get discount. She said 'Yes, and I think 50%". I then said "But we do not have any discount paper or any documents beside of an employee ID". She said "Yes, it would be ok, employee ID is fine". I was so happy and told my husband to head there instead of going to *** for their happy hour (would be under $50 for our dinner) since we would get 50% at Rainforest Cafe. When we were at the restaurant, I told the waiter, Hugo, right away, before ordering anything since I wanted to make sure about the that type of discount. I wanted to clear out everything before having our dinner meal. I told him "My husband works for the casino and we do not have any type of discount paper or document beside of employee ID". Hugo said "That's ok, you'll get 50%". Hugo did not mention anything about showing the paystub or either informing us that my husband had to register to a discount dining program with ***. The bill came out and the manager could not give us any discount and told us that "Our employees are not trained to inform how the employees discount works, it is "us' responsibility to do more research, the manager keeps mentioning that to us and even showed us the employee's handbook. We agreed that we did not acknowledge about that and that was why I made a call before coming in and even informing the waiter before ordering anything since we only plan for a bill under $50. It is not make sense that both a host and a waiter do not know anything about the employee dining's discount since they both work for ***. Or at least, they should have checked again with the manager before making sure anything to customer because I did mention to them that "My husband does not have anything discount card or document beside his employee ID. If we had known about the issue, which my husband has to register for the program, we would find another way before going to the restaurant such as buy a discount gift card from *** or ***, or my husband would register for the program before coming in or planned to eat at another place since we planned for the meal under $50. I am writing this letter as a regular customer, not as an employee wanting to get employee discount. We had to pay full price, since the manager told us there is nothing he can do at this moment, not even any discount or refund for apologizing us due to lacking information service from both the host and the server. If we had known that issue at the beginning, we would have had ordered only our entry and one kid meal so it would be under $50 bill. We did not want to argue so we paid in full and left very disappointed and hope we could get a response form higher supervisor from the cooperate.

I hope I would get a response soon so we could plan more visits in the future since my girl loves the atmosphere at the Café.

Desired Outcome

I kindly try to find a resolution to make our bill under $50 as which we planned for our meal. We would not order that so much food that brought up to $94+ tips.

Thank you for forwarding *** complaint to our attention. Mrs. claims the restaurant staff is not knowledgeable with the Employee Discount Program. Mrs. husband is not a participant in the voluntary employee discount program. Mr. has been provided information on this issue. We do not believe further action is required at this time. Thank you

The restaurant manager spoke with me but did not provide any resolution that can resolve the problem. I even contacted the regional manager by myself and was told by the restaurant manager that he will contact his boss on his own and never got any call back since then. The restaurant manager tried to claim it is our fault that we did not look up the discount policy. I did tell him if we have known, we would not have had to call the restaurant and asked before heading there and even repeated asking the waiter when we were seated. Again, the staffs and the manager of the restaurant tried to avoid their responsibility and blamed on us. All they want is money and we were cheated and ripped off internationally with the bill of more than $100 including tip. There is no way that nobody in the restaurant does not know how that discount work because they are staffs there and even enrolled in that program. They did not even offer us anything to make up their mistake and kept pushing that mistake to us.
