I was treated terribly when I visited this eye doctor. The receptionist suggested I pay out of pocket for my exam instead of using my insurance allowance. They also did not bill for hardware and said I should save my allowance to buy hardware elsewhere with my prescription. I had to bring my kids with me since my husband is at work all the hours they are open, they were a bit cranky the baby started to cry when the lights got turned off . After the exam I said I would rather use my allowance since I wasn’t sure if I wanted to even purchase contacts. The receptionist talked to the doctor and the doctor said I had to pay out of pocket. I asked to speak with her but she refused to come up to the front so I had to take both my kids back to the exam room again. The doctor became very hostile and condescending. Telling me I didn’t have a choice. I said I wasn’t expecting to pay $65 since I had insurance... she said it was now $95 because I have a stigmatism. I told them I had a stigmatism BEFORE the appt. which is why I wasn’t sure if purchase contacts but I wanted to try... I don’t understand why it would be more it doesn’t change the exam... anyway I said I just wanted to use my insurance. She refused and said she did the exam even while my kids were screaming and she should have made me reschedule... am I supposed to disregard my personal health because I have kids to tend too? She told me to give her back the trial contacts and she wouldn’t bill my insurance. She made me take them out of my eyes and give them back. I asked for written documentation that she wasn’t submitting so I can go somewhere else within the benefit year. She refused. I went to the front and asked if there was an owner or someone else I could speak with. They gave me a card. I said I don’t even understand what’s happening as I started to cry. The receptionist replied “ don’t tell yell at me” ... I wasn’t yelling. I was crying, I stayed as calm as possible throughout the situation. I became emotional but never yelled, I was baffled by their lack of compassion and customer service. . After this HUGE fiasco and speaking with other eye doctors and looking into to my insurance it turns out that my contact lense fitting/exam is 100% covered AND I have an allowance for hardware. So I should not have been asked to pay anything. They called my insurance prior to the exam to verify coverage so I feel as though they were trying to scam me out of extra money. I called my insurance to verify and they said they shouldn’t have asked me for a dime.
