After numerous complaints about shoddy workmanship around the chimney, the roof leaked in Feb after the first substantial rain.
Entered into contract Sept 2017. I received a call Oct X XXXX that there was damage by the fireplace that had to be repaired at an additional cost. The roof work would be completed and then the crew would come back, rip up the new roof/shingles to do the repairs, then re shingle that area. Custom flashing was going to be ordered and applied and fascia and molding would be done. 10-27 got a text that work was finished. I went to Bastrop to inspect roof. was shocked at poor workmanship at chimney. the section behind the chimney was 2-3 inches lower than the rest of the roof, shingles were crooked, and along the roofs edge the shingles dipped below the roof line before continuing over the edge allowing water to pool. I took pictures and went directly to my sisters business to show her the photos. while there RTR called to speak with her about a separate job. she put me on the phone and I explained my displeasure. I was assured that the problems would be fixed. over the next month I received and sent several texts and phone calls about these same issues, each time I was assured that the problems would be fixed. Nov 14 I received a text about settling up on the roof and holding the extra money until the carpenter work was done to my satisfaction. I inspected the roof again Nov 16 and the shingles were still wonky and dips were still at roof line at the chimney. I received a phone call from the owner asking for full payment for the roof and me holding the $850 until the work on fascia/moulding was completed. I paid the balance for the roof nov 28. I went to my parent home 2-7-18 and the roof was leaking in the exact spot as before and there was new water damage to the ceiling. I immediately texted RTR and sent pics. was told they would get right on it. *** was sent out 2-8. my sister *** met him at the house. *** inspects the roof, the ceiling, and the attic. *** says he will return in 1or 2 weeks to paint the ceiling. *** has to go and get supplies. he returns and starts work on the roof. *** has to leave and tells *** this. he tells her that he is disappointed in how this job was done. he pulled back the shingles at the chimney and the old shingles and sealant had not been removed, the sealant on the edges was so built up it funneled the rain to the center of the chimney. *** was also told that he mentioned his disappointment to his boss, and his boss said that the crew that did the job had been fired. she left and called *** around 2:30. *** said he had to go to monroe to get flashing for the chimney because it had not been replaced, it was rusted through and had a hole in it. *** replied, "hold up, I thought you guys had a flashing expert to do the flashing". he told her that all the flashing was changed except this one piece. *** calls *** around 4:30 and says the work is finished and if we have any problems to call him. the next week someone in a group I belong to asked for recommendations for a roofer. another person suggested RTR. I replied and stated that it was one of the worst experiences of my life. ***, owner of RTR, decided that I wasn't entitled to my opinion, stated that I hadn't paid for the work that had been done and still owed a balance of $850. I replied that I had texts and pics to back up my side and that I was aware of what a roof is supposed to look like. I don't appreciate being slandered. after hearing what *** had to say about the work around the chimney I am worried about the integrity of the entire roof. a friend stated "its not like they decided to do a crappy job in just that one spot." I concede that RTR has gone out to the house every time that they were called. I just don't understand why they had to be told 7 or 8 times about the chimney area before it was repaired this last time.

Desired Outcome

I would like an independent roofing company to spot check the entire roof for defects, paid for by RTR. If any defects are found RTR will repair them for free. the fascia and moulding will be completed, the fascia on the corner of the chimney, and the piece of moulding on the front of the house behind the gutter that is missing. the last contact i had with RTR was a reply to a post on social media 2-16-18. i have yet to hear from him. *** sent him a text message X-XX-XX and he has not responded to her.

In response to the above case Rain Tight Roofing immedately sent a crew during heavy storms and at night to address our customers' concerns. Photos of our close inspection of chimney area, crawling in narrow attic space and inspecting interior ceilings revealed no visible new water damage. We believe the water damage found on ceilings was old existing damage from before we finished roofing the home.

Regardless, in hopes of satisfying our customer, we are meeting again tomorrow Friday 3/2/18 at 9am at the home to discuss any issues with both sisters and make a list of any and all concerns they have so that we can resolve them.

Sincerely,

Daryl ***

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
RTR sent a crew out during the storm and at night for the second time that the roof was leaking after the roof was repaired. the first time that the roof leaked after being repaired, water was in two plastic containers that were placed on the hearth by my Dad and water had run down the side of the fireplace to the floor. *** was present when the RTR repairman came out to inspect the roof after the first time it leaked after being reroofed by RTR, and was told by him that the job at the chimney area had not been done correctly. The most important piece of flashing was not replaced, the original flashing piece was still there, it had a hole in it where it had rusted through, the old sealant and old shingles had not been removed and was funneling water to the chimney and into the house. In September there was a small amount of water damage to each corner of the ceiling by the chimney which is what prompted us to contact RTR to have the house re-roofed. Now there is greater water damage at the corners, plus water damage across the entire front of the chimney at the brick line, water damage to the ceiling approx. 3 feet in front of the chimney and approx. 2 1/2 feet of of water damage along a sheetrock seam line to the right side of the chimney. Shelia and I met with RTR repairman 3-2-2018. We showed him all of our concerns. We were told that he was going immediately to buy supplies and he would be starting the repairs that day or Saturday or as soon as possible. We told him that our parents would be going out to eat later that day. He verbalized understanding and said he would get it done asap. He checked that he had the correct phone numbers for both of us and told us he would let us know what was happening. Today is X-X-XXXX I received a text message from RTR repairman at 9:17 am today explaining that he and his family had been sick, he hadn't forgotten us, and he apologized. *** and I are nurses, we understand being sick. In 11 days it will be 6 months since I signed the contract with RTR.

Because of recent heavy rains, I found myself with a need to call to get help. From the first moment I felt very appreciated as a customer and I received prompt attention. Mr. Thigpen and his associate came out to my home the same day and it was clear they were extraordinarily knowledgeable about diagnosing and treating the problem. They did not hesitate to jump in and fix the the problems so I would have no more leaks in the coming predicted days of rain.

It it important to note that Mr. Thigpen offered different solutions available to address the problems and allowed me to pick the best solution based on my current means.

It was such a pleasant experience that I do not hesitate to recommend Rain Tight Roofing because their customer service was wonderful, their knowledge was stellar, and their craftsmanship was excellent.

Thank you Holly, for the opportunity to earn your business.

After tireless fighting with the insurance company about the hail damage on our roof, I contacted Brian *** with Rain Tight Roofing in Monroe, LA. What a pleasure it was to work with a gentleman who enjoys what he does and does it well. Brian took over all communication with the insurance company and handled all of the correspondence from that day forward. He had a professional attitude and will get the job done with your best interest at heart. The workers were here on the day scheduled and worked till sundown and were back the next morning and every day until they finished our roof. It looks amazing! No nails were found in the yard, and this is a plus from what I've heard from other neighbors who got roofs replaced and no one bothered to pick up the hundreds of nails left behind. If you are looking for a roofing company that is professional and will take care of business...call Brian ***, the best!
