Ram Asphalt, Inc. Reviews (2)

Review: Driveway was torn up and recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) was brought in as a base material. The concrete apron at the roadway side was poured and the driveway was re-paved.

Issue #1- Complete failure of concrete apron. Apron surface has crumbled and flaked off. There are large cracks running the full length of the apron as well as a crescent shaped piece broken off on the edge.

Issue#2- Water not draining toward street as stated and agreed upon in the contract. When the recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) was brought in, it was mixed with existing base material. I was concerned the level of the driveway was too high in relation to the existing height of the garage door apron. The [redacted], assured me that the excess material would be removed and there would be no problem with drainage to the street. This is the reason the contract states that all drainage must flow to the street. After paving began and it was apparent that the driveway level was too high in relation to the garage apron, [redacted] stated that he would create a "lip" to prevent any drainage problems. Currently, during any rain event, the water fills the garage door apron and drains between the apron and the driveway. The old driveway was level to the apron and all water drained toward the street. Water should not be draining into and under the driveway as this may cause heaving or failure. Additionally, there is a puddle of standing water in the middle of the driveway after every rain.

We have been back and forth over the phone many times trying to get [redacted] to respond. When he does return our calls, he states he will take care of the problem or he come by to inspect. He did come by once last fall to inspect the drainage problem, but on a day I specifically stated that I would not be home and asked him to to reschedule. He came by anyway, on a non-raining day and told my wife that he didn't see any problem and has never come by again. When the apron failed over the winter, I called him several times in April. When he responded, it was agreed that he would call me in two weeks to arrange repairs after he finished other work. We have not heard from him nor has he returned numerous phone calls.Desired Settlement: As far as the drainage problem, two solutions were discussed with [redacted]. The first being a "french drain" which would entail cutting away the edge of the driveway at the garage door to install a long drain grate and piping the water away from the garage apron. The second would be two to cut out the existing garage door apron and replace it at a higher level.

The defective apron at the street side needs to be removed and replaced.

Since we no longer have confidence in [redacted] keeping his word either contractually or verbally, and since he will not return any phone calls, we would like to have a partial refund to remove and replace the defective apron as well as remediating the drainage issue. Cash is requested as this was the method of payment to [redacted].

Response:

At this time, I have not been contacted by Ram Asphalt, Inc. regarding complaint ID [redacted].

Response:

[redacted] reference id [redacted]. Consumer Affairs got involved. We had a meeting at residence. I redid the cement apron, installed a French drain in front of garage, and fixed a spot where water was accumulating. The investigator for consumer affairs noted this was completed. Homeowner complained that there were stones unraveling on asphalt where we did repair. I wasn't notified til after season was over. Will check on it this spring and make sure it is ok. But I did comply with what consumer affairs advised me to do. Investigator Irwin Finn is contact person

Response:

I made a repair to the driveway in August. Didnt hear back from homeowner so I assumed problem was fixed. [redacted] called me late November to inform me there was still a problem. We were pretty much finished with season due to cold weather but I agreed to meet her on a Saturday.I did miss our appointment and I was going to call her that evening to reschedule. When I returned to moffice, I played my messages and [redacted] was on there and left a very irate message threatening me saying " Now we will do things the hard way." I was taken back by this and did mot returm his phone call. Regardless I will get in toucj with them and take care of any issues they have. They both are very nice people and I want to fix whatever is wrong
