Randy's Marine Reviews (1)

Review: I called Randy's Marine and asked if he could repair the tilt, my motor on the boat would not raise, told him the where the problem exist and if it didn't hit $300.00 Could he also look at the choak, But the main thing was to get the motor to lift, Yesterday I called, and was told to call back a half hour I did and was told to come get it. When I got there I tried the tilt, it raised, I hit down then up, it did not raise and [redacted] fiddled with it for another 30 min, said it was in the harness he couldn't fix it and charged me $230.00 for 3.5 hours labor. Is this fair to pay for what I wanted and got nothing in return?Desired Settlement: Fix It or refund

Response:

On 3-25-13, Mr. [redacted] brought in his boat and motor saying the electric choke didn't work and trim and tilt wouldn't go up or down. See copy of job work order enclosed.

I got started on repairing the choke. After troubleshooting the choke I found bad and broken wires up under the dash.

I replaced and repaired the bad wiring and got the choke working properly.

Then I started working on the trim & tilt systems.

I checked everything from the selecter switch back. Found the relays to be O.K., but the recepticle for the up relay was damaged from overheating, and had a melted wire.

Couldn't repair the recepticle, but got wiring repaired enough to make it work.

I told Mr. [redacted] about the bad wires and recepticle for relay and that the wire harness for the trim & tilt must be replaced, but the harness was not available new. I would have to find a good used harness.

I told him the trim & tilt was working now, but for how long I couldn't say.

When he came to pick up his boat, I couldn't get the trim & tilt to work again. I worked on it for 30-45 mins more, still no go.

I showed him how to by-pass the bad relay to make the trim work by using the battery.

I never charged him for that 30-45 minutes, and I even deducted the time work for the trim & tilt from the work order. That was approx. .6 hrs. & misc.

Only thing he got charged for was the repair on the electric choke system. See enclosed work order. 2.5 hrs & tax and a few wires & parts.

So Mr. [redacted] was not charged anything on the trim & tilt because I couldn't get it going with the damaged parts in system.

I told him I would try to find another harness that would work, then it could be repaired.

So, is choke was repaired and that was all he got charged for.

I have been in business for 28 yrs. Haven't done that by screwing people.
