Randy's Towing Reviews (3)

To Whom It May Concern: The complaintant visited my office the other day.  She didn't read our contract when she signed up and wasn't aware that we charge $2 for every $1000 reduction of the market value.  I explained that other companies also charge a fee for market reductions and...

our fee is the lowest compared to the other companies that charge the fee.  I agreed to waive the fee this year.  The matter has been resolved. Regards,[redacted]

Review: On Saturday 2-21-2015 we had a winter storm in our area lots of snow. I had to drive to my in laws house, because they had no water and were needing help on the way there I decided to turn around because of all the snow when I pulled off the [redacted] highway I was stuck in the snow at this point we waited in our car for an hour and after seeing the snow plow go past out car and having plenty of room to pass we decide to continue on to our in laws house by walking and would then come back with a truck to get the car. The care was stuck after 11:30am by the time we made it back it was 3:30pm or 4:00pm and my car had been towed stating it was a hazard. Notice as I said the snow plow passed us as we sat there on the road when I finally found my car it was at Randy's Towing when I get there the man that owned it was extremely rude I explained the situation and advised it wasnt there long and we clearly were stuck in the snow as you can see outside. He cut me off and said it would be $200.00 or I would not get my car back. I asked why $200.00 that is extremely high for only having my car an hour and not driving far with it at all. He was not uderstanding and advised that his fees are set by the state law. He refused to take a card so I had to find cash and come back when I got back with the cash I had called the police dept to ask about the fee and they advised me that this was not correct that the towing company makes up their own rates. I confronted owner and told him what I was told and he threatened to call the police on me and said I either needed to get my care or leave he had other things to do. He then called to cop that towed my car and told him that I was filing a complaint on him and the cop. If I would have been doing this which I did not on the cop it would not have been any of this mans business and he should not have started all this or spoke to me the way he did. This was an example of price gouging and poor customer service.Desired Settlement: I feel that I was over charged and the man did not act like a professional at all I'm not saying he should not have been paid at all but I was clearly over charged and have spoken with a towing company in that area after this and the general charge they were setting for that day was $50.00 so I feel that is fair. The refund I should be given by this company is $150.00

Response:

In response to the complaint ID#[redacted] submitted against me on 2-21-15, the Virginia State Police notified me to tow a car in the road that was hindering traffic. I spent 20 - 30 minutes clearing the snow from around the vehicle in order to load it on my truck. I brought the car to the lot at my facility. The complainant called to let me she was coming to pick up her vehicle and ask what the towing cost would be. I informed her the bill was $200.00. When she arrived to pick up the vehicle, she wanted to pay with a credit card. I advised her I was not set up to take credit cards. She got upset and said she would be back with the money. When she returned, she was not happy about the charge for towing her vehicle and was complaining to me. We had just experienced a snow storm that kept our business busy. I told her she needed to get her car or I would shut the gate as I had other business I needed to take care of. The other tow companies in this area all charge within $50.00 of each other and final cost can vary with time spent retrieving the vehicle. Due to weather conditions at this time, I could not stand there to argument with this customer. I was doing my job in response to the request made by the Virginia State Police.Thank you for allowing me to respond to this complaint.Regards,Randy Sluss, Owner
