RAPCO MUFFLER & BRAKE SHOPS Reviews (1)

Review: A few months ago my Chevy Impala's check engine light came on and it started to smell like gas. It turned out that the line to the of the EVAP canister purge solenoid was cut. I eventually replaced it myself(the part only cost $30). For some time now the check engine light on my mother's car has been on. A few days ago I took a look around, and it turns out that the line to the EVAP canister purge solenoid was cut on her Nissan Altima(the cost for EVAP purge solenoid on the Altima, starts at $98) The only shop that both cars have been to within the past year is Rapco Automotive Center, located on [redacted], PA [redacted]. Given the low probability that both cars could have such a clean break on the same device, on two different cars, of two different manufacturers, would suggest that someone has done it purposely. These are lines that recirculate gas fumes, to be reburned before being released through the exhaust. If the fumes are not addressed they can leak into cabin, causing carbon monoxide exposure. Here is the probable scam or motive. The car's computer(OBD II) does not turn on the check engine light until it detects a large leak, which means it would take a considerable amount of time between when the line is cut and the customer is alerted by the check engine light(trouble code). Not sure how I can prove this habit, other than requesting access to their service records, and purchasing records. Their service records may be inflated, meaning they could be telling their return customers, that the problem causing the emission leak is a more expensive fix, and may or may not be reporting the repair to the EVAP purge solenoid, but if they are making official purchases of the EVAP purge solenoid , a gross, suspect, amount of purchases would serve as valid proof.Desired Settlement: Im not sure what resources are available for this, whether an investigation can be afforded, or even if this kind of action is isolated to this repair shop. Who knows, this could be an industry wide secret. I would like to refunded for the cost of these items, if proof of this can be found in the manner suggested, than anyone who was charged for this service should be compensated. Thank You.
