It is with a heavy heart that we are responding to this
complaint by S*** ***
On 9-24-S*** *** purchased a kitten from our Santa
Maria locationAll of our kittens are vaccinated, dewormed (for round and
tapeworms), have advantage applied and are tested for feline leukemia,
which
had a result of negativeEach kitten comes with a complete shot record with a recommended
vaccination/deworming schedule and a free veterinary exam at VCA Animal
Hospital
On 10-26-S*** called to and described that his kitten
had been coughing up blood a few days prior to his call and subsequently died S*** and S*a have not brought any
paperwork to us on what happened to the kittenThey described that they just
dropped the kitten off at Arroyo Grande Veterinary clinic to be taken care of
From what we understand from S*** and/or S*a the kitten
had not been examined by a veterinarian since they purchased kitten and the
kitten was not taken to the vet at the first signs of vomiting blood
Some of the more common reasons for a kitten to vomit blood
are Trauma, ingestion of a foreign object, exposure prescription medications,
poisons (cleaners, bug sprays, toxic plants, harsh flea control) and heatstroke
Unfortunately S*** & S***’ lack of responding to
clinical signs of distress and a lack of a necropsy offer no explanation as to
why the kitten passed away
S*** wanted a new kitten as a replacementHe was angry
and frustrated, but they had not done their part to show they had provided
proper veterinary care for the last kitten I cannot put a new kitten in that situation
S*a did not callS*** didHe was accusing, yelling,
cussing and kept insisting, we sold him a dead cat. I understand a situation like this can be
stressful and sad for all parties We
are obviously saddened by the loss of any petWe provide a lot of care to make
sure that our pets are ready to move into their new homesIf either S*** or
S*a had taken the kitten into a veterinarian as soon as they had found the problem
there may have been some answers

We have come to realize that communicating with the Wrights has been very challengingWithout a diagnosis of an illness for the puppy and us not having any issues with the puppy while in our care, the return of the puppy seemed to be the best resolution for both partiesIf necessary we can provide a copy of the Central Coast Pet Emergency Clinic bill which indicates that the puppy was examined, but that diagnostics were rejected by the WrightsLaurie Wright returned the puppy to our storeMaybe something changed between the new owners’ house and our store but the puppy came in acting happy & healthyShe weighed in at 26.5#. When she got back to our store, she ate, drank and playedWe did not see any symptoms of illnessWe had one of our regular veterinarians examine the puppy the day she came back and she checked healthyHe indicated that she was of an appropriate weightWe refunded the Wrights for the puppyThey were reimbursed extra which more than covered the veterinary billIt just seems better for all parties that the puppy has been returned due to the amount of frustration and confusion that was going onSince a refund has been provided for the puppy, I don’t imagine there would need to be future correspondence in this case

I am rejecting this response because:  The Owner Adam is not representing the facts properly.   WE took the puppy to the Vet Hospital on Sundayand the hospital agreed something was wrong with the puppy but the hospital was not sure and the puppy wad dehydrated.  The pet shot owner stillrefused to take the puppy so we had a scheduled appt with the same Vet that gave the puppy her 2nd vaccination for us so we wanted thesame Vet to reexamine the puppy not a Vet that is a personal friend of the pet shop owner.   We complied in every way to take care of thispuppy spending most of the day Sunday in a vet hospital for her.  We spend time with our animals not a hit and miss so we have beenable to observe the habits of the puppy.  The puppy is also 1/2 the weight is should be for a Great Pyreenes which the pet shop owner is awareof at this time.   The owner did not pay us for the Vet hospital of $95.00 but did reimburse for the puppy and took the puppy  backwhich is in his possession.

We were very concerned for this puppy as W[redacted] and his wife L[redacted] have denied medical diagnostics for the puppy when they kept indicating that the puppy was ill.We gave W[redacted] copies of his warranty and California State Law at the time that they purchased their puppy. Our warranty offers a...

communicable & congenital warranty for the puppy. Our warranty allows for veterinary bill reimbursement for issues that fall under the warranty. The current problem is that the puppy has not been diagnosed with a health issue. W[redacted] & L[redacted] brought in paperwork from the vet that indicated that she had a vaccination and fecal test. The fecal was negative for any parasites. W[redacted]’s wife, L[redacted], was not understanding that the puppy needed to be diagnosed, in order to figure out if the issue falls under the health warranty. Puppies can eat foreign objects, eat too rich of a food or just plain get into things they are not supposed to. We tried to explain the Warranty to L[redacted], but she was not understanding. On 11-28-16 L[redacted] took the puppy to The Central Coast Emergency Clinic, where the only exam finding was mild dehydration. The owners refused diagnostics or testing other than a basic exam so the veterinarian could not diagnose anything. We offered to have VCA Animal Hospital look at the puppy, at our cost because she indicated that the puppy was super ill and she wasn’t going to take it back to the vet until Tuesday afternoon. She denied our offer of the free exam at VCA. L[redacted] called on 11-29-16 in the am insisting that the puppy was ill, but that she would wait until her scheduled vet appointment at her veterinarian. Upon hearing this decision, we told her to bring the puppy back to us, so that we could get her the medical attention she needed. It is risky for us to take a puppy back that has been exposed to other households but it seemed that the safety of the puppy was on the line. We realize that the new owners may have really liked this puppy, but things get tough when a pet owner is more concerned about the pet warranty than the immediate medical care of the puppy. Pets cannot safely be in a home that thinks an emergency is happening, but is not willing or able to provide emergency care. The puppy just got back to us and is happy and looks fine so far. Her tail is wagging and she is playing with her toys. She drank water and ate food. She looks really good but is getting a veterinary exam by VCA today just to make sure. We have provided them with at complete refund and refunded them for the veterinary costs which provided no diagnosis of any health issue.re...

I am rejecting this response because:
Regards,
[redacted]

We provide a complete warranty with every pet we sell at Animal Kingdom Pet Shop. The warranty is a Health Warranty that complies directly with California State Law. Our warranty clearly states that it only allows for returns or exchanges for a pet based on the health warranty. V[redacted] signed the...

health warranty paperwork at the time of sale and was given full copies as well. V[redacted] was concerned that the puppy was not eating as much as she had anticipated, but did not want to take her puppy to the vet for his free exam, that we provided at the time of sale. We let her know that if she takes the puppy to a vet for an exam and he is found to have an issue that falls under the health warranty, we will be able to take the puppy back for a full refund plus the cost of any veterinarian fees to diagnose the puppy. She also indicated that she wanted to return the puppy, because she has changed her mind on the purchase. We do not provide full refunds for a change of mind. We explained that California does not have a cooling off period. If we were to take the puppy back, we would be purchasing the puppy from her. The purchase price would not be what she paid initially, because it is a risky venture for us. The puppy has now been exposed to a new set of germs. A puppy in a new home can pick up new germs within seconds of being in a new household. V[redacted] had originally paid a down payment on the puppy and had financed the rest with a third party finance company. She received her down payment back minus $200 and we cancelled her finance contract through the finance company. The $200 is a fee that we charge for the health risk for buying a puppy that has been in a different household.V[redacted] signed a purchase agreement that indicated exactly how much she was being paid for the puppy. When the puppy was brought in by V[redacted] for purchase, he ate a bunch of food and was running around and playing. We still held him for several days in order to make sure that after going to a new home he was still a healthy puppy. He passed his vet check with ease is still a happy & bouncy puppy. We are sorry that V[redacted] did not do her research and think through the purchase of a pet before one. Under our warranty we do not have a return policy for a change of mind. We offered a buy back for the pet, because we didn’t want the pet in a home where he was not wanted. We wanted to make sure that he found the correct home.why here...
