Rapid Transmissions

Review: On Oct 22, 2013 I went to Rapid Transmissions to have my transmission checked out for a leak that Valvoline Oil Change told me I had a leak in my Transfer Case. They recommended Rapid Transmissions of Escondido. I met with [redacted] the manager. After a free transmission check he stated that there were some problems with the transmission that they found metal on the magnet which means gears are grinding. He stated that they had a 1 year same as cash financing and a 3 year or 36, 000 mi warranty on their transmissions. So after further investigation he said it would be $585. to remove the transmission and any work and parts would go towards the $585. He stated that a new transmission would run about $3,000 and about $1200. for a rebuilt. So I agreed to further the investigation and he would call me and my wife on Wed Oct 23 2013 with the details. He stated it would be $2800 for a rebuilt transmission and that he could get us financed. So he had asked for our bank acct# and routing#. So he got me Financed for $1500. and my wife for $500. He then asked if we could come up with another $700 and I stated no that he either needs to put the car back together or fix it with the funds that he has. He then stated that his mechanic had already started on the transmission. I stated that that is not my fault, that I or my wife did not authorize to start on it and I asked him why he started on the transmission if all the funds were not there. He had no response except that he would do the job. On Friday Oct 25 2013 my wife and I went to pick up are vehicle. While signing for the vehicle I asked him about the warranty on the transmission and he stated that he could only give me a 1 year and 12,000 mile warranty because we could not come up with the other $700 and he had to cut costs. I said that was unacceptable. I then asked what about the payments on the $2000. loan. He stated that the finance co would get a hold of us. I asked what finance co? he said it was called EasyPay Loan. and they will automatically take it out of our bank accounts. I asked who gave them our bank acct# information? He stated he did in order to get the loan. I stated he had no authorization to give out our bank acct information and I was under the impression that Rapid Transmission did the financing not an outside source. He then stated that he could not get us the 1 year same as cash that now it was 90 days same as cash. Once again I asked why he didn't mention that when we were getting financed. Mike stated he thought he mentioned it. I stated no you did not. He said oh i'm sorry. I am very disturbed about this type of business practices. I asked him for a card of the Easypay Loan Co. he stated he didn't have one.Desired Settlement: I would like to have my 3 year or 36,000 mi reinstated as per [redacted] stated and that my 1 year same as cash be honored by Duvera Financial who is handling this loan. At this time I am paying $167 a month for my loan and $40 a month for my wife. On a $2000 1 year same as cash is only $166 a month. I feel violated and taken advantage of. Our vehicle helps transport our 17 year old who has Cystic Fibrosis to and from the Hospital in La Jolla. As of today we are taking our van back to Rapid Transmissions for the 500 mi. check up. The van is still having the same problems that it did when I took it in and it now won't go into gear properly. We are a one car family and I am the only one employed so I need this van fixed properly. so that I can get to work and my son can get to his doctor appt.

Response:

Mr. [redacted] was in the Escondido location on 11-19-2013 we had a chance to go over his concerns and Rapid agreed to reinstate the warranty from a 12/12 to a 24/24. Mr. [redacted] seemed to be very pleased with the results of the meeting.

Review: I had my transmission repaired at the facility. They finished the job quicker than I had anticipated. I had informed them I would be unable to pay until Tuesday, April 28, 2015. They told be I would be faced with a storage fee. I was okay with this. They called back later telling me I needed to make a deposit of $1000. Since, the bill is a little over $1900 and they already have a mechanics lien on the vehicle I find this unacceptable. They called back a second time and threatened me with having to pick up the vehicle by 9am on April 25, 2015. this is even more egregious.Desired Settlement: I fully intend to pay for the vehicle repairs. I however request they hold the vehicle until Tuesday as originally requested with out the storage fee until Tuesday. April 28, 2015 when I can get the required money to pay in full.

Response:

[redacted] dropped off his 2001 Buick Park Avenue on April 22, 2015. [redacted] authorized Rapid Transmission to exchange his transmission with a good used one. On Friday, April 24, Rapid called [redacted] and asked if it would be able to make a $1000 down payment, as this practice is customary when Rapid comes out of pocket to order the transmission. [redacted] was not in a position to leave a deposit and was told by Rapid management, not to worry about it, as long as he can pick it up by the following Tuesday, work would remain in progress. At no time was [redacted] told there was a mechanics lien put on his vehicle, nor was [redacted] ever threatened with or charged a storage fee to keep his car over the weekend until he was available to pick it up. Furthermore, [redacted] was certainly never called back a second time and threatened with having to pick up the vehicle by 9 am on April 25th.

[redacted] never complained to anyone at the Rapid Transmission location about these threats and came and picked up his vehicle on April 28th per the arrangement. [redacted] returned to Rapid on May 6th for his 500 mile recheck and again, never mentioned the potential mechanics lien or threatening phone calls.

Review: My vehicle had a transmission leak. I brought it in to get the leak fixed. After removing the transmission and finding the leak coming from the torque converter they completely dismantled the transmission. They insisted a $2,500 rebuild was necessary. The only alternative was to put it back without fixing anything for $589. They refused to fix the leak without the $2,500 rebuild.

After they found the leak they should not have dismantled the transmission. Replacing the torque converter was all that was necessary to fix the leak.

I retrieved my Transmission parts and had my vehicle towed away. I paid $389 for them to not fix the leak and get my vehicle back in pieces.Desired Settlement: Just my money back. Now that they've done me wrong I wouldn't trust them to touch my vehicle again.

Maybe they should pay for the transmission parts that somebody else is going to need to put it back together.

Review: I brought my vehicle to the Rapid Transmission North County location back in August for transmission work. After the diagnosis I was told that the transmission was shot and that my choices were to either rebuild it or have them put in a used transmission. I choose to go with a used transmission. Upon completion of work the transmission still did not work properly. As it was under warranty I took the vehicle back. About 3 weeks later they put in a different used transmission. Again, the transmission did not work properly and I had to take it in yet again. This back and forth happened 3 times over 3 months. I finally took the car to the San Diego (convoy street) location. After about a week I was told that there was a defective part(s) in the used transmission they had got for me and since my original warranty had expired (though they never fixed the issue at any point in time) I was liable for the costs which were $800. This would be on top of the $2,200 I had already spent for an issue that was never fixed. The used trans was procured by Rapid Transmission yet I am liable for the fact that it is defective?Desired Settlement: Either find a working transmission as originally promised or cover the costs to fix the used one as it is not my problem
