Rapidan Plumbing Inc. Reviews (29)

I am always satisfied with the professionalism and knowledge of Rapidan Plumbing Probably as with most people, it's the cost that we recoil from But, putting it in perspective, Rapidan is probably less costly than the others, especially at their level of professionalism

Thank you for Jr's flawless work at my houseJr is a meticulous, skilled plumber as well as customer-oriented , a rather extinct aspect of today's specialistsI feel very comfortable in recommending your company, especially Jr , to any friend in need of repair or installation

Revdex.com Case# *** Thank you for bring your concerns to my attentionI do, however find it regretful you choose Verdana">this venue to try to resolve your concernI would think trying to resolve your concern directly with Rapidan would be a more beneficial approach for everyone involved. This job involves an inproperly installed Propane water heaterThe water heater is installed in a closet with a dryer and inproper ventilation for combustion air for the water heaterThe propane tank was almost empty alsoThe owner could not know what was involved in the job since she was not home and conducted business by phone. Customer's Statement of the Problem: I called Rapidan Plumbing to ask for repair of my Propane Hot Water HeaterTheresa at the office said there is a fee of $to come out and see what is wrongShe also stated that the $99 fee would be waived ifthe work was doneWhen the repair person came out he told me that there would be an additional $diagnostic fee that I was not initially made aware of. Yes, we do have a dispatch fee A dispatch fee gets the customer a place on our schedule, including a set time frame as to when we will arrive, a call to let the customer know we are on the way and a trip to the customers homeMany jobs lend themselves to taking a minor look and see and it is quickly obvious as to the problemMore complicated systems, think water heaters and pump systems may require a more involved troubleshooting processIf you go to the doctor they charge you an office visitIf any testing is required there are additional chargesThey don't even waive the office visitAnd you have to go to themThey do not come to you Since I would have had to pay $ifl did not have them do the diagnostic test anyway, I told him to go ahead and run itThe repair person said the problem was a clogged filter that needed to be cleanedHe said it would cost $dollars to clean a filter not including the upfront fees ($99 + $149)They did waive the upfront fees and I paid for the service but doies it truly cost $306 dollars to clean a filter? I understandThe charge for cleaning the filter is our standard charge for this type of serviceWe not only cleaned a filter, we provided you with a valuable service by a trained professional craftsman .We knew what the problem was and how to resolve itWhen all is said and done at least different people have been involved in providing this service and take at least hours of time, all inclusive. I feel that I had no choice once they came out to the house because of the additional fees and it was either pay $for no work or pay $to clean a filterI disagree with the cost but also felt that I had no other option since they were still going to charge me the $I clearly would not have used this company if I would have been made aware that they charge $before doing any work! I the work was done correctly but I feel I was held hostage by them because of the upfront fees . At no time was the customer going to be charges $248. She had choices at each step of the job. She could have chosen only to pay the dispatch fee. She could have chosen to pay $after the troubleshooting was completedOnce the troubleshooting fee was agreed to the dispatch was waivedI try really hard to satisfy all my customers and I have a hard time with the victim mentality. Thanks for your consideration in this matter. I await your response *** ***

Shawn H*** and Chad Farrived on time and checked to see what the problem was and ended up replacing the toilet They left the bathroom clean and neat The bill was reasonable Will call them again if I have any problems and refer this business to others

On Tuesday 9/30/Rapidan plumbing received a call for
service at ***
** *** The customer stated that the alarm light on the
sewage pump control box
was on and would not go offRapidan scheduled a service
callThe customer was
/>
informed that There was a $Dispatch Fee to send a tech
to their homeThe
Dispatch fee included the tech coming to their home and taking
a look at their
problem and presenting them with their options in writing
At this time our Tech
would get written authorization from the customer before performing
any work The
customer OK'd the dispatch fee and informed the call Taker
that she would be paying
by Credit CardRapidan dispatched a Tech to look at the job
at 9:AMThe
customer was contacted by phone and informed a Tech was en route
to her home
My septic pump would not turn onI was away for work, so my
wife called Rapidan for serviceThere is a dollar fee for a house call
stated by the company
Rapidan does not have a service call feeThe $fee was
a Dispatch FeeThe Dispat.ch Fee Includes travel time to and from the jobsite
and an initial consultation and looking at the problem with the customerThe
Dispatch Fee does not include any work at the jobsite
The technician got to my home and asked to look at the
systemAfter a few minutes, he returned to the house and told my wife it would
cost dollars to troubleshoot the systemHe said it was probably a bad
pump
At this point the rapid Tech did not at any time say the
pump was defective, only that the customer may want to consider replacing it
due to it’s age and condition
This lead my wife to believe that the pump repair would cost
dollars, since a brand new pump of greater quality than the one currently
installed would cost the same amount
The Rapidan Tech quoted a price in writing on the contract
addendum #for a new pump
She called me and told me the price, and I asked to speak
directly with the technician on the phone
The Rapidan tech spoke with ** *** before troubling
shooting the system and could not, at this time know that there was a loose
wire
He said there was
just a loose wire and that there was nothing wrong with the pumpI hung up,
assuming that the fee would not be dollars for a few minutes worth of work
The technician told my wife she still had to pay the full amountHe said he
gave her new "Wire tips" for freeWhen I got home I called Rapidan
and asked what exactly the technician had done, and how the fees were broken
downI could not identify any work that was done inside the control box and
since there were no parts ordered I didn't understand how that fee was computed
with only laborThe technician called me a few minutes later, agitated and
standoffish
Please *** *** to review * *** conversation with the
Rapidan Techa bout ** *** displeasure about our price
He said he soldered a new connection inside the panel for
free , but there was a dollar fee just for looking at the systemAny
additional repairs or parts would cost extraI then asked him," Well how
is this number broken down? Do you have an hourly rate? Distance
traveled?" And he said, " Nope, I just charge dollars for my
services." I asked ," Well why the hell does your company charge
dollars for a service call and then you throw on an extra bucks for no
reason without telling anyone?"
** *** states several times throughout these *** that he
quoted a $troubleshooting fee
And he said," I won't have you yell at me" and he
hung upI called back a few times to speak to a manager and I left messages
but I never got a response
The only communications received from ** *** were one
phone call and one email
Tuesday October 28, I had the same issue with the septic
systemI called Dabney and Crooks in Fredericksburg Virginia to look at it
The problem ended up being an issue with the bearings inside the pump and a
failure inside the pump to startThe assumption from the technician is that
the pump was beginning to fail when Rapidan serviced it, and that either
resetting the floats or unplugging the power for a second reset the pump and it
started after the failure
Contract addendum #shows Rapidan provided ** *** with a
price to replace the pump and control box
I do not believe Rapidan did anything, I think the
technician pulled a connector off, checked it, and when he plugged it back in
the pump started and he misled my wife into believing he fixed the issue when
he simply masked it long enough to get paidI believe the random amount he
charged was an effort to take advantage of a pregnant woman home alone with
children and no working toilets or showersThe technician said a new control
panel would cost $1,and a new pump would cost $2,I paid $1,to
replace both with higher grade equipment than was currently installed, so I
also think he was trying to price gouge her even more on equipmentI believe
the company intentionally redirected and delayed me until the credit card
charge hit, because they stopped returning my calls the day it went throughAt
the time I would have been more than happy to pay the dollars and an hour of
labor for each worker, as I told the managerEverything about the situation
from the management to the employee was unsatisfactory

Shawn was a very friendly effervescent person. He is proud of the company that he has represented for 15 years. He believes in the old time policy of customer service makes the Company. He is an excellent representative and a positive credit to Rapidan Plumbing and if I have any additional problems I will not hesitate to call and request Shawn.

Just wanted to say how great our experience was with Rapidan Plumbing! We had a gas leak on our roof and the gas company couldn't set up service until it was fixed. Shaun from Rapidan was here on time and got everthing fixed - he was pleasant, professional, and just all-around GREAT! Thanks, Rapidan Plumbing!!

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
“[redacted] actually had no experience with Rapidan Plumbing. All businesss was conducted solely with [redacted]. There was no [redacted] present at our visit to Mr. [redacted]’s Home. Not really sure what part [redacted] feels she had with this business transaction.”[redacted] is my daughter whom was speaking with Rapidan Plumbing Inc.’s representative at my residence over the telephone. Therefore she did experience this business transaction and wrote this complaint on my behalf. 2. “Mr. [redacted] was given 3 different options for this work. He
chose to have this work done at the above prices and gave us his written
permission to proceed with this work. He could have just as easily chosen one
of the less expensive options.”a.   I was
never given any options for work to be done. I was informed that there were
three things that needed to be completed in order for my hot water to be fixed.
Those things were replacing the pressure reducing valve, the expansion tank,
and the vapor sensor. I was given the impression that all of the above things
needed replacing in order for my hot water to be restored. If that was not the
case, Rapidan’s representative did a poor job of conveying that information. 3.  “Rapidan did not
install a pressure release valve. Rapidan furnished and install a pressure
reducing valve, which is much more expensive and takes far more time and effort
to install. If the “other plumber” was basing his price on this information
they were misinformed of the work that was performed. I wonder….did this “other
plumber” “cone” out and look at this work before coming up with his price?????”                a.
Referring to a pressure reducing valve as a pressure release valve was simply a
typo because I pointed out the PRV to the “other plumber”. Thus, he knew which
piece of equipment I was referring to. The “other plumber” was in my house
working to restore hot water to my household when he informed me that the PRV
wasn’t a necessity. Rapidan’s representative had previously told me that a PRV
was needed because it likely caused the expansion tank to go bad. The “other
plumber” told me that expansion tanks usually go bad after 5-6 years anyway and
that reducing the pressure coming into the house wasn’t necessary to restore my
hot water. 4. “The technician determined that a pressure reducing valve
was necessary based on conversation with Mr. [redacted] and by checking the incoming
water pressure. The technician showed Mr. [redacted] the water pressure reading that
was 90 lbs. incoming water pressure should not exceed 55 lbs. for a properly
performing plumbing system.”                a. I
called Rapidan out to fix my hot water since I had been without it for two days
prior to Rapidan showing up at my house and was without it for another two days
after they left. I wasn’t calling to have routine maintenance done on my
plumbing I just wanted hot water restored and was under the impression that any
work suggested by Rapidan was a means to meet that end. The “other plumber”
informed me that the water pressure being at 90 psi wouldn’t prevent me from
having hot water it would only potentially cause components to wear more
quickly. I am now under the impression that if a pressure reducing valve was
needed it would have been installed upon the house being built or when the tank
was originally installed. 5. “The technician contacted the water heater manufacturer
and informed them of the problem with the water heater. The technician informed
the manufacturer that the water heater had been flooded at least 10 or more
times in the past. ( this information was provided by Mr. [redacted]) The  manufacturer informed the Technician that
since the water heater had been wet several times that the part would not be
under any warranty. The manufacturer also informed the technician that the
original vapor sensor may work if dried out and tested but it was not likely
and should be replaced.”                a. This
was another miscommunication between me and Rapidan’s representative. I told
Rapidan’s representative that there had been water in the drip pan before but I
never said that my water heater had been flooded. I made my statements
intending to inform Rapidan’s representative that there had been water in the
drip pan before because I wasn’t sure if that was relevant information and
wanted to inform Rapidan’s representative as well as possible. The “other
plumber” that ended up fixing my water heater had that part replaced under
warranty and it turned out not to be the cause of my problem anyway. The actual
cause of my water heater’s malfunction was due to a faulty igniter. 6.  “As with most
buying decisions prices vary from one provider to another. I was in [redacted] yesterday and “say” a cooler for over $500. Right beside this $500
cooler was a cooler about the same size for under $50. As I walked around the
store I observed another cooler about the same size for under $20.  I make no apologies for my prices. Yes, my
prices are more than some other plumbers, although not as much as some other
companies. I know my cost of doing business, I pay my people well with good
benefits and make a modest profit.  I run
a professional, honest business and it cost a lot. After all everything is
expensive in this day and time. One thing I know to be true, if [redacted]
were to look around more she could find someone much less costly than the
“other plumber”. I wonder….What makes the cheap price the right price??????”                a. I
don’t know that “the cheap price is the right price” but I do know that my
water heater is currently operating properly and (with the exception of the
expansion tank) none of the work done by Rapidan contributed to that. It has
been brought to my attention that I could have purchased and installed an
expansion tank with relative ease and that it doesn’t require a plumber’s
expertise to test.                 b.
However, I don’t dispute that my system needed a new expansion tank to run
properly. I accept that fact and the charges that ensued. c. I dispute the need for a
Pressure Reducing Valve to be installed and the ensuing charges related to that
particular job. I also dispute the need for a vapor sensor to be replaced at my
expense due to the miscommunication between me and the technician. I feel as
though Rapidan’s representative could have been more careful with his word
choice in an effort to avoid this confusion. Additionally, if this
misunderstanding hadn’t taken place that Rapidan could have had this part
replaced under warranty like the “other plumber”. In conclusion, I would like a refund for the charges related
to installing of the pressure reducing valve. This would make my total desired
refund $757. We are willing to pay for the diagnostics fee and the expansion
tank instillation. I feel that this refund is justified because Rapidan’s
representative never communicated those as options. Rapidan’s technician
informed me that all three of these things would need to be done in order to restore
my hot water. As it turns out, none of the above was actually the immediate
cause of my loss of hot water. I feel as though installing the PRV was never
going to restore my hot water but instead, prolong the life of my system. This
is not what I wanted from Rapidan’s representative. I wanted hot water returned
to my household in a timely manner.          Thanks, [redacted]

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
1. I did tell both [redacted] and ** that I was not happy and why at each step and all they said was sorry.  I have witnesses to these conversations.
2. The propane tank had 20% not 20 lbs of propane which equates to 100 gallons in my 500 gallon tank.
3. The water heater is where it was designated by the builder Mitchell Homes and is in a spot that is commonly used by builders.
4. I specifically asked for upfront fees and was not given the $149 diagnostic fee.
5. I may not have been home but my son-in-law was there in my place.
6. ** admitted that he had to call Whirlpool to find out what was wrong.  That does not seem very knowledgeable to me.
7. I find this response from Rapidan Plumbing to be very offensive and rude.  I paid the bill but don't want other people being put in my situation because yes I would have had to pay them.  I fully expected to pay for a repair.  My disagreement is with the diagnostic fee that was not disclosed to me when I specifically asked about fees.
8.  I do not feel I have victim mentality as he stated.  The Revdex.com is here to protect consumers and as a legitimate outlet for their concerns.

I wanted to take the time to compliment Nathan and Chad from Rapidan Plumbing for outstanding service when we had no time to waste. We made an emergency call when a plumbing backup occurred in the basement. Nathan and Chad were there shortly after. When video confirmed roots in the main drain lines, they handled everything efficiently to get the problem solved and back to normal. They went above & beyond what needed to be done to simply get the job done. I found Nathan and Chad to be exceedingly helpful, caring, and knowledgeable from start to finish. Thank you to Rapidan Plumbing for a job well done!

He stated he wanted hot water but was not happy about our pricing. I gave him the option to cancel the call for the remainder of the job and Rapidan would refund him his deposit for the work not yet completed. He informed me he could get it cheaper from his regular plumber. I said I understood and suggested if he wanted it cheaper I would send him his deposit for the vapor sensor and cancel the job. It was my understanding that this is what he wanted.  I apologize for any rudeness he perceived on my part. It was never my intention to come across as rude. I try to give each customer what they want. The cost for the services we had already completed was $999. Not sure where the $1200 cost came from.Desired Settlement…  “I would like a refund. Rapidan Plumbing, Inc. is one of the best plumbing companies in the area. The plumbers who come out to the house are very professional, neat, friendly, and do very good work. We would recommend them to others. The office staff is very helpful and friendly as well. A good company to do business with.

Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
There are a few reasons I reject this offer.  The main reason is that there is no offer.     My issue was that the technician got my wife to sign paperwork without explaining what was being done, he was vague and intentionally misleading.  He already reset the pump at that point and I think it was working when he got her to sign the paperwork saying he wanted 337 dollars to troubleshoot the pump system.  I believe he was price gouging because he could not provide any itemized breakdown of services rendered.
a. The contract shows that the customer agreed in writing to have
Rapidan troubleshoot/inspect the sewage pump system for' $337.00
Verbally, the tech told my wife it was probably a bad pump.  He then handed her a contract and she signed it in good faith assuming the words he spoke were represented on the paper.  In addition, since Rapidan likes to rely on the legality of the contract I would submit that the definition of troubleshoot is to "trace and correct faults. The technician did not correct any fault so he did not even complete this portion of the contract.
g. During the troubleshooting process the Rapidan Technician discovered a wire in the control box that was corroded and had broke off at the connector. The tech repaired the wire. Once the wire was reconnected the system started. The Tech then continued to troubleshoot the remainder of the system and determined that the system worked at this point.
My complaint was that Rapidan did not fix anything.  They even state that once the wire was reconnected the system started working! How does a wire that is untouched and protected in a box break off!? They hid the problem, which was a bad pump, by unplugging and plugging in the pump which caused it to reset.  Also, if the tech checked the rest of the system he would have seen that the alarm was broken (I discovered later) and that the pump failed to turn on once it shut off again.  Another example of work said completed that was not.
j. I certainly respect [redacted] opinion about pricing, however, my Tech talked with [redacted] by phone before doing the troubleshooting and [redacted] ok"d the $337.00 troubleshooting fee.
Not true. I did not authorize anything.
I did not talk to the technician on the phone at any time authorizing any amount of money.  As a matter of fact when my wife told me the cost, I asked her to put the technician on the phone.  When she went outside he said it was not a bad pump, and that he fixed it.  Since he told her the pump was probably bad and would cost 337 dollars I assumed the cost would be lower and ended the call.
5.  [redacted]  This is the e-mail Rapidan Received from the customer. e. Paragraph 2- He states that he has an issue with the Rapidan Tech stating that the control box should be waterproof type. He then states that it wasn't waterproof and should be???
This entire exchange perfectly illustrates my point.  Rapidan could provide me with no actual work performed, and I was forced to make educated guesses.  No one ever told me exactly what work was performed except the term "Wire tips" and "fixed a connector". As for the statement about waterproofing, why state that the box is not waterproof, then fix an electrical wire inside the box that would get wet?
At this point the Rapidan Tech did not at any time say the pump was defective, only that the  customer may want to consider replacing it due to it's age and condition.
Untrue.  The technician did say it was probably defective.  The irony of course is that the company states here that the technician at no time actually identified the correct problem.  The other point here is that they also state in the letter that at no point did they pull or look at the pump.  Per their response"Paragraph 3-1 states that we pulled the pump. We never pulled the pump. There was no need to pull the pump." Rapidan could not have known the age, condition, or even existence of the pump through 15 feet of sewage.  I consider this point an outright LIE.
The only communications received from [redacted] were one phone call and one e-mail..
[redacted]
Copied from my phone bill.  The first call is telling me the tech is on the way.  The second is me calling to inquire about the price.  The third is a call back from the technician.  The fourth one is me calling back after the technician hung up on me.  The 5th one is the secretary who answered when I called back informing me she left a voice mail with the manager and that the manager would call me back.  I also called from a work phone and left another message the next day which I have no ability to get a record for.  This does not include the call from my wife while the technician was standing at the box.  This point is also a flat out lie.
In closing, I dispute every point made.  While they say they fulfilled their end of the contract, they legally did not.  Contracts agreed to using misrepresentation are also not enforceable, and the company certainly did that by verbally stating and writing different things.

Regards,

I AM EVER SO PLEASED WITH THE SERVICE REC'D LAST WEEK BY THIS COMPANY. THE WORKERS ARRIVED ON TIME, DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON CLEANING UP AFTER THEMSELVES, WERE COURTEOUS AND PLEASANT AT ALL TIMES, AND WERE IN A NUTSHELL, VERY PROFESSIONAL IN A FRIENDLY AND KIND WAY. THE JOB WAS COMPLETED ON TIME AND THE RE-SEEDING OF OUR YARD WAS DONE NEATLY AND TIMELY. MY HUSBAND IS VERY PICKY AND HE WAS VERY IMPRESSED. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY - ALSO, IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE WORKERS STATED THAT IT WAS A GREAT COMPANY TO WORK FOR, WHICH IN THIS DAY AND AGE IS NOT OFTEN HEARD AND WAS REFLECTED IN THE MANNER IN WHICH THE EMPLOYEES HANDLED THEMSELVES.

I had a problem with a leak on the out stack clean out plug. Shawn H. was dispatched and fix the problem within five minutes. Very polite and knew this trade.

Rapidan Plumbing, Inc. is one of the best plumbing companies in the area. The plumbers who come out to the house are very professional, neat, friendly, and do very good work. We would recommend them to others. The office staff is very helpful and friendly as well. A good company to do business with.

I called Rapidan Plumbing in Fredricksburg Va to help with a 30 year old bath tub faucet. The plumber was extremely courteous, listened to the problem (as well as several other plumbing problems) and gave me written options and estimates. He didn't try to sell me on the most expensive option. He told me what would work as an option and proceeded to order the parts while I waited. He also was nice enough to fix a problem with a wobbly toilet - that could have cost me over $ 200.00 - in about 5 minutes because he knew I didn't need to have the toilet pulled out of the floor and re-installed. This is a nice guy who was respectful of my home and very nice to my 86 year old mom who is visiting. I will ask for him by name the next time I call Rapidan Plumbing!
