Rarco Contracting Reviews (1)

RARCO Contracting was contracted to begin a renovation project on my cabin located in Capon Bridge, WV The primary work was to extend the main living area and add a bathroom upstairs in the loft The work was contracted to begin on Monday, August 17, 2015, and was to be completed by Friday, September Very little of the renovation was completed by September On Friday, September 25, a second contract was signed This contract stated that all work was to be completed by Friday, October On Tuesday, November 9, I fired RARCO Contracting as the renovation was still not completed and Stephen S [redacted] president and owner of the company, wanted to come back yet again and work on the project I fired RARCO Contracting days from the original contract date after two contracts were breachedThere are many reasons why the renovation was not completed within the two contract dates A few are: As a senior citizen approaching years of age and a woman unfamiliar with building construction, it is quite evident that SS [redacted] took advantage of me putting my renovation off for months while he and his employees worked on other projectsSS [redacted] had no intention of completing the project by Friday, September 18; the first contract deadline On Wednesday, August 12, he signed a Hampshire County Building Permit Application that stated that the “Expected Completion Date” would be Wednesday, September Furthermore, the few receipts that I have document that he bought building materials on Saturday, September 19; one day past the original contract date; another indication that he had no intention of completing the project on timeSS [redacted] consistently showed up late or not at all For example, one of his employees, two electricians, two plumbers, my sister and I waited for over two hours for him to arrive to give direction on the project When he did arrive, he gave neither an explanation nor an apology; another indication as to why the renovation was not completed as contractedReceipts show that he purchased building materials that were for his personal use and had no bearing on the completion of my cabin One receipt shows that he purchased cedar shingles for my cabin’s roof The shingles on my roof are “autumn brown” asphalt shingles Using my money, he purchased truck bed coating, washer fluid, motor oil, flat oil, lube and penetrant, etc He also used my money to purchase American Walnut and Dark Walnut stains The only stain that was used on my cabin was Early American; not American Walnut and Dark WalnutI repeatedly asked SS [redacted] for receipts showing the items that I had paid for and warranties for such He gave me very few Throughout the days, I informed SS [redacted] that I wanted them so that my accountant could peruse them for possible tax deductions He said that he did not have to give any receipts/warranties to me as this request was not in the contracts He also said that he did not have any more to give me Among the many items that I paid for was a wall air conditioner/heating unit supposedly costing me $ 750; as stated by SS [redacted] on the renovation specifications I have no receipt showing the actual cost Another example of possible wrong doing by SS [redacted] is that the first contract stated that a vanity/faucet would cost me $ I myself bought the vanity for $ 209.55; $ less than what he quoted the vanity/faucet would costSS [redacted] took my money for the full $ Another item is the fire escape I picked out an escape that would require pushing a “red” button to fully open it Without my knowledge, SS [redacted] installed one that requires me to twist a round [redacted] to open A very difficult task as I do not have full use of my left hand due to a prior surgery The [redacted] is attached to the left wall of the cabin To open the escape I would have to reach around and use my right hand wasting critical time in case of a fireWhen discussing a shower for the new bathroom, SS [redacted] was to purchase a shower exactly like the one that is installed in the downstairs bathroom I personally showed SS [redacted] the shower in the downstairs bathroom stating that I wanted a shower exactly like it to be placed upstairsThe shower in the new bathroom is much larger than the one SS [redacted] and I previously agreed upon It has taken away much needed storage space that I had counted on and is an “elephant” in the room It also is a waste of money as I am a single woman and do not need a large, wasteful shower
