Review: I am staying in Southern California temporarily. I was given Raul Miranda's contact information and was told he would happily be able to see me and prescribe a thyroid medication as well as a sleep aid, that I have been taking for years. When I called to make an appointment the receptionist was extremely rude. She seemed as she would rather eliminate me as a potential patient rather than seeing me. She very rudely tried to scare me off for not having insurance, as I'm a cash payer. When I got to the office the same rude behavior was exhibited by her, no pleases or thank you's, no smiles at all. I shrugged it off hoping my experience with the Dr. would be much better. Most Dr.'s I've ever dealt with, in particular family practitioners, seem to have a friendly personality. When Dr. Miranda entered the room he didn't even look at me, and acted disgusted that I was there. He never smiled, asked how I was doing, or even made eye contact with me. I paid $125 for the visit. I had a few important things I needed to tell him regarding my thyroid and he constantly interrupted me and shut me down. It was so bad I couldn't even finish my sentences. He went on to ask unimportant questions, regarding my work etc. the same questions I answered in his questionnaire upon checking in. He obviously didn't bother to look at that file, so his questions were redundant and had nothing to do with what I was there for. I tried to explain the importance of a blood test I needed, as my Dr. back home told me to get it checked right away. He interrupted and did not listed. He bossed me around in the room, never asking nicely or using any manners at all. He acted as if I was bothering him by giving him my business. He gave me the complete rush job, cut me off, I couldn't even think or finish sentences. He spent a total of 3 minutes with me. All he did was re-prescribe the meds I told him I've taken and rushed me out the door. He treated me like a criminal, very condescending. I would never recommend his service.Desired Settlement: I want him to know how he treated me as a patient was wrong, extremely unprofessional & un-empathetic. His service was absolutely horrible. I'm an easy person to get along with, and he didn't try or care to deliver a warm, friendly experience. I would like an apology, a refund, and for the public to know so they can be aware of his poor practice. He obviously is in it only for the $; that was even evident as they collected payment 1st. Then once he had my $, he gave 3 minutes. Shame on him.

Dear Ms. [redacted]:

This patient was in our office on January 27, 2014.

Diagnoses: Polysubstance Dependence, Anxiety and Depression.

He specifically came to our office for medication refills. He was

referred by a local psychologist who is very well known to me and a

source of many prior referrals. his initial paragraph complains of multiple

instances of rudeness over

the telephone and face to face by my receptionist "who did not want

to bring him in because of insurance or lack therof". Why did he proceed

to make any appointment anyway? it makes no sense. Most people would have

looked elsewhere has this been the case. There are lots of doctors in the area.

Our receptionist has been with us for over seven years with few complaints, and

on the contrary, with many accolades.

Second part of teh complaint: "I acted disgusted, not friendly , treated him like a

criminal, etc." That should have been another red flag. why did he not exit right then?

"I asked unimportant questions". this is called a review of systems, a family history,

a work history, medicine history, etc. These are standard questions. "I bossed him

around rudely, cut him off, rushed him etc." Another oppertunity to seek help elsewhere

and get his payment back. He did not.

I proceeded to examine him and refill three medications he was on. He was advised to

follow up in two months.

Part of my practice involves Addiction Medicine and Substance Dependence Abuse. It is

our policy to collect the fees up front.

This patient had ample oppertunity, if he was so badly treated, to get his money back and

leave. He did not. Nor did he express ant dissatisfaction to me at the time of service. Had he

done so, he would have received a refund.

If I was not properly warm and friendly or in any way impolite, for that I sincerely apologize,

We try our best but we are not purfect.

I am easy to get along aznd have been at this office for over twenty years with very few complaints.

I will NOT refund any monies to him. He was charged a fair fee for my services and his prescriptions.

I wish him good health and fortune. He should seek medical care elsewhere.

Should you have any further questions please let me know.

Sincerely,

Raul Miranda, M.D.
