I contacted Ray A Shaffer incorporated as I needed the services of a plumber to fix a leaking joint between a copper pipe and a valve on the recirculating line coming out of my hot water heater (which I explained when I initially contacted the company) The friendly company representative informed me it there would be a site visit fee to have someone come out, but this would be applied to the cost of the repair if I ended up employing their service A plumber came out to my home the same day and I showed him exactly what needed repair He examined the leaking joint, and then told me he would go out to his truck and calculate an estimate He came back to the house a few minutes later with a quote of $to replace the leaking valve When asked how much the replacement ball valve costs that he would be using, he stated that they don't break out the quotes that way and this quote is all inclusive of labor, etc I respectfully declined and paid the $service fee Later that afternoon I then went to home depot and purchased a replacement ball valve for $ I then proceeded to turn the water off, drain the line, cut out the old valve and completed its replacement with the newly purchased valve in approximately minutes I contacted the company the following day to express my disappointment at their outlandish quote and was informed that a manager would call me back I never received a call back Fortunately, I have enough knowledge to perform these types of household repairs and to know the amount of resource required to complete such a task In this case, as I work during the day and have numerous post-work day commitments, I was prepared to pay a reasonable repair fee to have the task performed The quote I received was completely out of line with a reasonable repair fee given that it ultimately cost me $and minutes of my time to complete the repair I would not recommend the use of this company's services and would advise anyone considering the use of this company's services to be very cautious and do your due diligence in understanding what a reasonable cost should be for the services and parts being quoted
