I disagree with virtually everything said by Mr *** When we initially discussed the work, he indicated he wanted us to "lightly sand" the cabinets and then apply a stain/varnish combination Min-Wax product and he specifically chose the color "Bombay Mahogany" which is a very dark
color From past experience, I know that "lightly sanding" a cabinet does not remove sufficient amounts of the original varnish and stain veneer to provide an effective method to apply a new stain/varnish just to make sure, I did a test on a similar cabinet off site and as I thought, it did not give the desired results The ONLY way to refinish cabinets is to remove as much of the old stain and varnish as possible even down to the bare wood if possible My work crew took initiative and did in face sand the cabinetry to remove the old varnish and stain Logically when you are going to sand wood, there will be some residual wood dust that inevitably transfers to adjacent areas So when they were done sanding, at Mr ***s request and at my own added expense, I brought in a full cleaning crew to remove the wood dust Mr *** texted me the next day saying they did an excellent job cleaning and in fact cleaned the entire house above and beyond the residual dust that was created by the sanding My painter went in to do a test area at Mr ***s insistence to try his method of "lightly sanding" a cabinet in the laundry room and then apply the stain/varnish As I predicted, the stain came out looking a reddish color when applied over the old stain/varnish after using Mr ***s method of "lightly sanding" the surface Now he wanted a second coat on those cabinets but we attepmted it and this did not resolve the issue In the meantime while trying Mr ***s method we wasted a lot of time So we had the rest of the week until Sunday to complete the work but on Friday of that week, Mr *** abruptly cancelled the work We had scheduled to work the entire weekend late into the night to complete the work on schedule but never got the chance this despite the fact that Mr *** had given us all weekend to finihs of which I can provide text messages as proof In a contract, BOTH parties have rights not just one side or another We did all the hard work in sanding the cabinetry I suspect this was Mr ***'s plan all along To have us to do more difficult work and then he, as a retired contractor, finish out the work and pretend to be dissatisfied with the work and demand a refund Also, his claim that we "ruined" the cabinets is absurd Sanding cabinets to the bare wood does NOT ruin cabinets whatsoever This is the standard prepping process when refinishing wood cabinetry Another possibility is that Mrs *** did not like the color chosen by her husband as she expressed on numerous occasions and this provided a convenient excuse for them to cancel the work There was a painting crew working during the same time and I am aware that he tried to pull a similar stunt on them even though he was already getting an exceptional deal from them $for painting a sq ft house, he demanded they apply a second coat of paint throughout the property so this proves the unreasonable expectations on the part of Mr *** Now, I feel we have more than earned the initial deposit since we already did all the more difficult work as well as painted a good number of the cabinets in the laundry room, guest bathroom and started the kitchen cabinetry as well but in the interest of compromise and good will, I can have one of my crew return to finish out the stain/varnish of the cabinets as agreed per our contract As I stated, we did nothing wrong even with all the obstacles, we had a window of opportunity that Mr *** himself gave us initially to finish the work before he abruptly and unjustifiably put a halt to the work I stand ready to fulfill the terms of our contract even though I feel Mr ***s breach of our contract entitles me to definite legal rights and recourse We did nothing wrong We stand ready to fulfill the terms of the contract

The key Point here is that the client did not allow us an opportunity to fulfill the workI have text messages to prove that he had given us until Sunday to complete the workIt is more than possible to complete the work and a 72-hour window especially when you bring in extra personnelAnother key point is that his method of refinishing the cabinets simply did not workWe tried it in the laundry room and the stain was coming out a reddish colorNow he is saying that we had to do an additional step of adding a chemical and then lightly sandingThis was not outlined in our contract Norwood that method have worked anywayAgain I say the only way to refinish cabinets is to send them down to or near the bare wood which of course requires a great deal of LaborAs I mentioned previously despite all of the clients obstacles he presented to us I am more than willing to return to stain and varnish those cabinetsI am only exercising my rights as a party to the contract we agreed onThose cabinets are ready to be stained and varnished despite what the client claimsAs I stated previously we tried his method and it did not work and it only delayed the workWe had hours left on our time line that was given to us by the client himself but he abruptly halted the work and sent my worker awayI am once again extending my offer to resume the work and complete it in that 72-hour window that was promised to us by the client

Complaint: ***
I am rejecting this response because: *** *** is incorrect with the information he is giving, I have text message showing the factsNever did I want to sand down the cabinets to the bare woodI would not have agreed on that at allThe time he had was plenty days! If he would have started on the next day we signed a contractI told him how I wanted it done and if he could not do it like how I wanted it done he should have consulate with meThe reason I made the painter quite was because of the lousy paint job he was doing, it was dripping all over the place

Complaint: [redacted]
I am rejecting this response because: I have read the response [redacted] submitted, and I disagree, I have a video of all the mess and showing the damage done to the cabinets, I agree that a cleaning crew was brought in and cleaned the mess up. However the rest of the story is false. They had ample time to do a good job, they were contracted on 09-15-2016 to do a job, start in the laundry and do a small test area to see if I would like it, I have text message  confirming this, That was not done. They started with machine sanding all the cabinets in the laundry room, breakfast area and kitchen, which was never agreed on, have text messages stating, there is a chemical that you apply on the cabinets and then maybe some light sanding to make it stick better on the surface, then you apply the min-wax, lightly. The painter put it on to thick and the farnish started running down. I asked [redacted] several times when he was going to work on the project, his response they work odd hours, so they were going to work that Friday and through the weekend to do the job, well Friday came and went nobody showed up, in the weekend Sergio the painter showed up in the morning around 8:30 AM. and started painting the cabinets and it looked hideous so I told him to leave, There was no way a good job could be done in just a weekend with all the cabinets that needed to be redone .
I had told Mr. [redacted] how I wanted it done, and that did not happen, I gave him ample time 09-15-2016 to 09-25-2016 that is 10 days.
In my regards to the other painter, Mr. [redacted] has no idea what he is talking about again and that is none of his business what kind of deal I made with him, he did a excellent job painting my interior.
My painter was also the one that told the guys not to use a sand grinder that they would ruin the cabinets, hang up plastic  to keep the dust from flying all through the house, but again they would not listen.
The cleaning crew did do a good job cleaning the home, however they never removed the dust from inside the cabinets!
Regards,
[redacted]
