there was no oil in the engine when she checked to see why her vehicle would not start for her. She stated she added 4 quarts of oil and then still had to have the vehicle towed. When the vehicle was dropped off by the tow truck I, [redacted], had the tow truck driver and [redacted] present as witnesses for when I checked the oil level and found the vehicle way over full of oil. I proceeded to evacuate the excess oil to bring it down to the proper level. 4 quarts of oil had to be evacuated, the 4 additional quarts that [redacted] put in, for the engine to have the proper amount. The vehicle was then test driven to clear out the exhaust system of the oil the PCV system was sucking when the vehicle was overfull. On the test drive, the vehicle started to overheat. Upon returning to the shop the vehicle was inspected for possible causes and found there was a coolant leak at a pipe fitting near the rear of the cylinder head. [redacted] was then called and advised of the leak and declined to repair the vehicle and requested picking it up. When [redacted] picked up the vehicle she signed invoice # 3139 stating our findings and left driving the vehicle. We have never been tasked with anything other than changing the oil and filter on this vehicle.

Response:

[redacted] first towed her vehicle to us May 20th 2014. The vehicle had been sitting for months and was infested with spiders and had traces of rodents all over the engine compartment. We received the vehicle in a crank no start condition. Started diagnosis and found vehicle to have a defective PCM, that also was the incorrect one for the vehicle. After replacement of the PCM, installed correct part number PCM, vehicle now starts but runs poorly and the check engine light is on. Inspected vehicle further, recommended draining out gas, smelt bad and was really discolored, and replacing bad wire for the throttle position sensor. After siphoning out gas, putting in 5 gallons of fresh gas and replacing the throttle position sensor wire, the vehicle runs better and has no check engine light but still has intermittent performance probems. Recommended customer filling fuel tank with fresh gas and returning for a fuel injection service. Customer returned complaining of a fuel odor. After removing fuel tank, found the fuel pump seal and fuel line ends damaged from improper installation. Recommended customer take vehicle back to previous mechanic for fuel pump warranty, customer advised us she had no warranty on the labor but picked up the fuel pump and seal so she could warranty the parts herself. Customer was not charged any labor for job only our cost for sending out the fuel lines for repair, which [redacted] has only paid $20.00 of. [redacted] brought the vehicle back for us to inspect further on the intermittent performance problems, we inspected the vehicle at no charge and customer would take vehicle undiagnosed because she could not leave it with us, expecting a quick fix on possible electrical issues. The last time the vehicle was inspected here was on July 16th 2014. [redacted] was advised to take the vehicle to a specialist because we were not able to determine the exact cause of performance problem(s) that kept popping up after we were able to get the vehicle started and running. The final trip was invoiced and our recommendation was documented, a copy of the signed invoice is available upon request. Vehicle had additional, undocumented, problems, like a coolant leak(s), but customer declined addressing them.

Review: took my dads 2002 dodge ram pick up for repairs in April 2013. took truck back 2 times because check engine light keeps coming on. wants more money

took my dads 2002 dodge ram pick up for repairs in April 2013. took truck back 2 times because check engine light keeps coming on. Engine was knocking. Got the truck back Friday after paying Robert (owner) again for repairs and check engine light came back on. He had the truck for over two weeks. He wants more money just to check it again! already paid over $1000.00 and problems continue. Feel like he is ripping me off and not fixing the problem. Desired Settlement: I feel the truck was never fixed properly Robert (owner) quoted me an estimate of $900.00 and said he would repair any problems that the code detector found. ended up paying him $960.00 the first time. On friday I paid him $89.00 more and problem continues after he had my truck for over 2 weeks.

Now hes asking for more money just to check it again!

already spent $1,050.00 total and problem not fixed! I Do not want him to work on the Truck anymore just want a refund.

Business' Initial Response

In respond to this complaint, when the truck came in it had a misfire and a loud knocking sound from the top end and the engine was shaking badly prior to repairs. We scanned the codes and it had a random misfire on all cylinders and also it had an Evap leak. After doing a free diagnostic we found a #2 lifter had collapsed and the rocket arm had completely came off. We then recommended #2 intake and exhaust cylinder lifter and to check further to see if there were any other codes. Mr. [redacted]'s dad insisted in replacing all lifters, so we gave him an estimate for all lifters' parts and labor and he decided to do them all. We told him that after we finished the repairs we would scan codes further for the other check engine codes if they came back. After doing the repairs the car ran smooth and had no codes. The next day the car had a lifter noise, we checked and lifters were ok but the oil pressure was low. So we proceeded with a oil engine flush and after doing that the misfire went away, the lifter noise went away and the car ran smooth. But it still had one code for the evap leak. We told [redacted] that to find out the evap leak it takes a special test with a smoke machine and it would be an additional cost. He got upset because he thought one repair fixed everything. But we told him it was not related to the lifter noise and he would have to pay for the diagnose to find the evap leak. To this day the truck is running smooth no knocking sounds as far as we are concerned the truck is fixed. If it has any other issues not related to the engine knocking due to lifters he has to be responsible for any other diagnostics or repairs. We cannot repair everything that is wrong with the car just because we fixed one problem. If he has any issues in relation to lifter noise or upper rocket arm noise he has 3 months warranty parts and labor.

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

No the truck was in there 3 times. Of course he has 2 invoices because he charged me again just to check out what he couldnt fix the first time instead of giving me any kind of warranty from the work he claims he did. All 3 times he claims to have fixed the problem. Each time stated that its something different. Now he wants to charge me again because now he stating that its another problem. This shop RD AUTOMOTIVE does NOT stand behind there work! There quick to point the blame somewhere else. If anyone is reading this DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO RD AUTOMOTIVE! The Revdex.com has had much more complaints about there faulty mechanic work.

Business' Final Response

In reply to this matter, first off car has been here twice which I have invoice paperwork to prove it. The second time it was here the truck was having a upper train noise which we corrected and test drove it extensively to verify the problem was completely resolved. As far as the check engine light due to a Evap leak I had never charged him anything in regards to this issue unless they have paper work to prove it. Customer claims the vehicle still has upper lifter problem, engine noise and misfire, since he does not want to bring it back to the shop I would suggest he takes it to the dealership ONLY to have a diagnose done for what he is claiming of upper train noise and misfire due to lifter problems and ONLY then I will give him a full refund including the dealership checkup charge if found that there was a problem with previous repairs. Otherwise I will no longer respond to any of these claims from now on I have other commitments besides answering to false claims, or if he wishes to go to court I would recommend that.

Review: I went to Express Lube on May 26, 2015 at approximately 1:00 P.M. Upon arrival I requested an oil change on my 2002 Honda civic. They took my car in to do the change, a man and woman were working on my car and another man, peter, brought lunch. They started eating lunch and working my car at the same time, and gave me my car at 2:06 P.M saying that the oil change was done. I paid, on the receipt it said what other things I needed done on the car, I talked to [redacted] about the different things to get done and then got in my car and drove off. I continued my day with the different errands, and when I tried to start the car, it would not start. I checked the gas, and I had enough gas so I didn't understand what was happening because I just got the oil changed. I kept trying and it eventually started. I started driving again and it started heating up so I parked it in a parking lot, I tried starting the car there but it wasn't working so I checked the oil dip and it was completely dry, I checked twice more to be sure. I went to the store in the parking lot and bought four quarts of the 76 brand motor oil. I put in all four quarts and when I checked the oil this time it showed that there was oil in there. I tried starting the car again and it eventually started. I continued driving and it started heating up again so I parked the car and had it towed, it was after five so I waited until the next day to talk to Express Lube. When I went there the next day I told the owner what happened the day before, and he told me to bring it in, so I had it towed. Then [redacted] called and said that the car was fine and it overheated because it had 8 quarts of oil in it and the coolant was leaking because I put extra oil in there. I believe my car overheated because of their lack of care and then they tried blaming it on me. I have tried to communicate and told them to take care of it but they said it is not their responsibility. I tried talking to the owner as well and [redacted] said the owner told him to take care of it.Desired Settlement: I want them to pay for messing up my car and accept that they did wrong. I had to pay extra to get another mechanic to fix it and I want them to pay for all of the extra repairs I had to make because of them. They need to learn how to treat their customers, it was a very negative experience.

Review: Vehicle A/C Service

On 07/13/2013 I went to RD Automotive located at 4119 Coronado Ave. #5 Stockton, CA 95204. Their phone number (XXX) XXX-XXXX. I just had an A/C service on my car 1994 Honda Civic DX, Licence Plate: 6[redacted]. I paid a total of $85 which includes: A/C Service $30 and A/C Service Labor $52.53 plus $2.47 for tax. The entire service consists of putting a 2 pound Adirional (Freon) at $15 per pound as well as checking for leaks. [redacted], the owner of RD Automotive was the person who serviced my vehicle. On my receipt there's no documentation on any discrepancy that he found during his diagnosis on my vehicle. A week after, I went back to his shop to have my vehicle checked because it does not cool. He was charging me again for the same amount that I paid for and additional repairs that was not documented on the receipt as far as any discrepancy on my vehicle during his initial diagnosis.Desired Settlement: I would like to get a refund in the amount of $85 that I paid for.

Business' Initial Response

In response to this complaint customer request A/C service without a diagnostic. Customer stated he was sure the vehicle had no problem with the A/C therefore he requested A/C service. We performed the service and installed UV Dye ran the car rechecked for leaks. We did not find any leaks at this time, we told customer if he had any problems, any leaks to return and we would check farther. After a few weeks he came back complaining the A/C wasn't working, we refilled the system and checked at no charge to the customer. We then used a UV Light and found a very small leak on the High Pressure A/C hose, we gave the customer an estimate for the replacement of the hose, and told him there would be no charge on the A/C refill. Customer stated he'd bring it back once he would get paid. When customer called back to bring it in, he wanted to do the job based on his own estimate and we told him the price that we had given was the actual estimate. He argued for 30 min on the phone and he wanted to get it done at his own price because he had done some free advertising on the internet for me that I did not want or requested but argued he did something for me and I should do something for him back. I told him thank you for what he had done but if he did it willingly without me asking for it but it did not change the fact that we have to order a part and do labor and the low price we had stated was the price it was going to be. We told the customer he was more than welcome to take it anywhere else to get an estimate.

Consumer's Final Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

In response to RD Automotive reply, I have requested for the necessary services that needs to be done to the A/C system. [redacted], the owner, executed a diagnostic on the vehicle and no findings was stated on the receipt about any leaks and he stated that there's nothing wrong with the A/C system that he could find on the vehicle. I came back on the shop before the week is up to for them to recheck my A/C system for it does not cool anymore. They NEVER REFILLED my A/C system (per their claim) but rather convincing me to have it done again for another A/C service fee in addition to additional repair for LOW PRESSURE HOSE REPLACEMENT (not the high pressure hose per their claim). I was requesting for the initial diagnostic correction. They don't want to entertain my conversation with them unless I pay for another A/C service as they were claiming they're have better things to do. I've been calling them to request for the correction on what they did but they would not entertain the conversation either and claiming that they have customers that they need to attend to. Customer referral is the only thing I mentioned to [redacted] before I leave on that day that I had my A/C system done provided that he would do a good job. It's not even close to their claim of free advertising on the internet.

Business' Final Response

The first time Mr. [redacted] came he said he did not have any leaks and requested an A/C Service without an A/C Performance check. We advise him to check invoice that there was no A/C Performance Check charge. After completing the A/C Service we installed UV Dye into the system at no charge and we proceeded by checking for any leaks. Our A/C sniffer did not pick up any Freon leaks at this time otherwise I would of sold the Pressure Hose to him at that time. When he came back the second time complaining that the A/C was not working, we scanned the A/C system with a UV Light and at this point the UV Dye had mixed into the system and there was a visible trace of A/C leak through a High Pressure Hose. A lot of times when the A/C leak is too small or when it only leaks under certain temperature or vibration it makes it difficult to detect. Once we verified that there was a leak we gave an estimate to Mr. [redacted] for the additional repairs and we told him he would get a free A/C recharge. Any additional repairs due to wear and tear it is the responsibility of the Vehicle Owner to repair. We did not create this problem therefore, it is his responsibility and not ours. In regards with entertaining a conversation we spoke to him a sufficient amount of time but he would not understand the facts and extended the conversation more than necessary and wanted it done for free. Due to other responsibilities I will not be replying back to any of these false claims. If he feels we are at fault I would highly recommend he files a small claim.
