Red Chili's Hibachi Asian Restaurant Reviews (%countItem)

On Thursday February 27th, I entered this establishment at about 16:30 for dinner and was seated at a table. After finishing my meal, the waitress delivered my bill and I noticed a small charge for sitting " in house." When the waitress returned, I asked why I was being charged for this. I was told that this charge was for using the " things on the table, and that all customers were charged who sit inside the restaurant." While I personally did not agree with this, I chose to not make it an issue, proceeded to the front counter to pay my bill.

My waitress was the employee who I interacted with for this transaction. She then commented that the manager created this rule and had pointed to a sign ( about 5 feet away which was hanging on a beam at the end of the counter.) The employee then had seen me signing my credit card slip, and that I had drawn a line through the " tip portion" , and noted that I was required to leave her a 20 % tip. I then advised her that I normally pay with a credit card, then proceed to the table and leave a tip for the server in Cash. She then said " OK."

I advised that at this point I felt a bit offended and let her know that I would be contacting the manager to discuss and planned on not returning to the restaurant. Immediately, a male cook emerged from behind the counter, yelling for me to get the F out of the restaurant.

I admit that I was extremely taken back by this action. I immediately left with saying nothing. Never in my life have I experienced something like this. My demeanor was calm and I never raised my voice while in the establishment. The behavior from these two employees was out of line and not acceptable at all.

Before the male employee emerged, I had a chance to view the letter from manager, Mr. advising customers about the small charge for dining in house, that is how I learned him being the contact. Im unable to locate a website for this business.

Dear Mr.,
Thank you for sending us an email regarding this case. We would like to report to you the real situation of what happened that day. We are a small, family owned and operated restaurant. We don’t have the ability to hire workers, so we rely only on our own skills and hard work to provide high-quality food for our customers. Our low prices are a popular factor with the majority of our customers.
We offer two types of service: dine-in and take-out. For dine-in, we offer full service, which requires a higher cost to provide, such as silverware, napkins, and condiments that do not come with takeout. The cleaning and sanitization we do after dine-in customers leave is another expense. Customers understand the difference between take-out and dine-in service, and our dine-in bill reflects that in a basic one dollar charge. Furthermore, we put out two signs on our walls that very clearly inform our customers about this policy. With the one dollar service fee, we hope to avoid disputes with rude customers and those who exploit our dine-in service work by not leaving a tip.
When this customer entered our restaurant, our waitress asked him if he wanted to place an order for dine-in or take-out. He told her he wanted to eat in, so she guided him to a seat at a dine-in table. We provided him with full table service. After taking his order at the table, the waitress brought out a pot of freshly-brewed hot tea and poured him a cup. Afterwards, she served him the Pad Thai Beef cooked by the chef. Per usual, she checked in periodically to make sure the customer was content and had everything he wanted.
When the customer finished eating, the waitress brought out the bill, and he refused to pay the basic cost fee. Not only that, but also he left a mess on the table and did not tip the waitress for her service. We patiently explained the expenses covered by the dine-in fee, but he remained fierce and unreasonably stubborn about it. At the time, there were other customers in the restaurant waiting for their food and we still had other orders that we needed to finish cooking and packing. We had to suspend work for more than twenty minutes, and he continued to dispute and disturb our normal operations. We asked him to leave the restaurant and not disrupt our work. If he had a dispute, he could go to court or complain to departments that handled this issue, but he should not continue to disturb our normal business.
We truly appreciate your time in dealing with this matter. We know that no matter how hard we work, we cannot please everyone. We also hope that with your mediation, this customer will better understand our perspective and the difficulty of operating a business. Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Mr.

Complaint: ***

I am rejecting this response because:
Mr.:I have been able to view the response from Mr. at Red Chili's Hibachi Restaurant. While it is true that I opted to dine inside the establishment, a few points made by Mr. I disagree with. After finishing my meal at the restaurant, I did question the $ 1.00 charge that I saw had been added to my bill. I recall letting the waitress know that I probably would not return because I disagreed with the charge. After approaching the front register to pay my bill, the waitress had directed me to a sign where this charge was explained. This sign was about 5 feet away from the register and affixed to a cement pillar inside the establishment. After viewing this notice for a few seconds, I began to tend to my bill. It is a common practice of mine to draw a line through the tip portion of my bill and leave a tip in cash. My waitress obviously was unaware of this because she immediately offered a comment before I was even finished signing my name to the credit card slip. She uttered that it was customary to leave a mandatory tip which I had not done. It was then that I let her know about this common practice. She said " OK" then walked away.At this point I realized that discussing and or possible resolving my customer service experience here would not be forthcoming. I then walked over to the sign because my intent was to hopefully reach out to Mr. to discuss my unhappy experience. A male employee from behind the cook station viewed my taking a photo of the sign, immediately came to the main part of the restaurant and ordered me to leave, which I complied with.Additionally, I dispute what Mr. refers to my leaving a mess at my table. What was it that I did or not do as a customer that he feels as though is not acceptable? Another few points I will offer with my repsonse are as follows: Mr. had mentioned that my waitress had checked on me throughout my dining experience. In fact I was not checked on even one time. After my waitress had brought my meal to my table, the next time she approached me was with my check after I finished my meal.Another point that remains a mystery to me is when Mr. refers to the employees at the restaurant needing to stop operations for 20 minutes because of me. After approaching the counter to pay my bill, I had departed the establishment in about 2 minutes time. Why did the restaurnat find it necessary to cease their operation because of me? From the time that I approached the counter to pay my bill, until I had departed, I recall but a total of 2 customers inside the restaurant. One female fairly close to the front door and a young boy whom she was dining with.My experience at Red Chili's Hibachi Restaurant was not a pleasant one. As a customer, I feel that the staff simply brushed me off with no regards to my concern. I dine out often in various establishments and I always offer a tip to my server. The reason I did not do so this time was because during two different occasions when I had attempted to speak with my server about this, she walked away from me. Her comment that she verbalized to me as I was signing my credit card slip was totally inappropriate and intolerable. Had she not made this comment to me, I absolutely would have left some gratuity for her. The male employee who ordered me out of the restaurant was uncalled for as well. I was seeking resolution, not a fight, and not to be ordered out of an eating establishment. I did not deserve this at all.If the restaurant is choosing to charge dining in customers $ 1.00 for using items at their tables, then it is appropriate to help ensure that such customers are made aware prior to ordering food. Mr. response seems to me to indicate that I was at fault for all and his staff did nothing wrong. From my perspective, the staff focuses on take out business and really does not want to focus on assisting customers who encounter legitimate problems with service.

Regards

In order to provide quality dining ware to our customers during their dine-in, we implemented the $1 dine-in fee. We use these fees to offset the costs of the usage of plates and silverware versus paper plates and utensils used at other eating establishments. We strive all we can to provide our customers the best experience possible. This very small fee will enable us to continue that effort
