Review: Perhaps not Illegal, but Certainly NOT EthicalRed E Tel uses deceptive business practices and high pressure sales techniques to target the elderly in order to sell them a service that they do not understand, do not need, and do not want.They misrepresent themselves as acting on behalf of [redacted] to solve problems with their clients computer that [redacted] is too busy to deal with. They misrepresent their service as superior to [redacted], but then advise their client that they must not uninstall [redacted].They contacted my [redacted], in [redacted], **, from their place of business in [redacted], **, by phone on [redacted], informing her that her computer had been identified by [redacted] as having many many problems. But they were there to help!In fact, the computer is less than six months in service, and is used less than two hours per week. It has [redacted] installed with automatic updates enabled.The salesman persisted in fast-talking my elderly 93-year-old [redacted] despite her protestations that she did not understand what he was talking about. He installed a remote PC control program, took over her computer, and performed a clean up service. After this, he informed her that this service would be performed monthly, and that she had to pay at least the minimum contract of one year, costing $200.She paid, but they have failed to provide a receipt, despite repeated calls to the company requesting one. They had assured her that she would have a receipt by email within 15 minutes of the transaction.They agreed over the telephone to refund 60% of the charge, but have not done so.It is now two weeks since the service was performed, and one week since they agreed to a partial refund.The IT experts that we have contacted to make sure that the computer has not been sabotaged with malware immediately identified this service as a scam.The credit card company has agreed to pay the 40% of the charge that was not included in the promised (but never received) refund.Red E Tel should be advised that they are engaged in an unethical business practice.They should be held accountable for failure to provide a proper receipt for services rendered.They should be required to deliver refunds as promised.Desired Settlement: Full refund of $200 obtained thru deceptive and unscrupulous business practice, preying on the elderly.
