Re: Complaint ID ***Dear Revdex.com:Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this complaintI have taken this time to speak to all staff and a few customers involved, and I feel confident that our actions were appropriate.The courtyard at Red Hog was carefully designed to create a pleasant
oasis in an urban setting. It is NOT a playground, and the sign plainly posted at the entrance (photo attached) states clearly "No dogs allowed and children must be under adult supervision." On the evening of March 24th, a family of four entered the courtyardAs soon as their feet hit the decorative pea gravel, the and year old started scuffling through it, then picking it upWhile their parents sat at the communal table, they filled their backpack with gravel.My husband and co-owner witnessed these actions and went outsideHe took the backpack, emptied out the gravel, and told the children this was "bad." He then placed the backpack on the table next to the parents, who were apparently oblivious to his actions. Shortly thereafter, I arrived and watched the children return to the gravelThey were tossing it in the air, putting it in planter beds, and distributing it along the communal table and the bench where their parents were seatedI approached, and quietly told the parents that they needed to stop this behavior and keep the children seated with themI explained that the fine gravel is decorative, and impossible to remove from planters, much less from between the bench slats.As stated in the complaint, the parents admonished their children, telling them to stop and telling them to sit downThis had the desired effect only brieflyThe gravel was just too much of an attractionThe kids were up and moving, displacing gravel again, while the parents engaged in conversation.My husband then told our lead bartender not to continue serving the family, because their children were still being destructiveFood and drink at Red Hog are ordered at the barWhen the father came to the counter again, he was quietly told he could not order additional food or drinkHis daughter was NOT standing by his side; she was running around inside the restaurant. As stated, the plaintiff did not cause a scene, which we appreciatedHe and his family left Red Hog, and we proceeded to clean up behind themGravel was strewn across the table where they had been seated, the bench was stuffed with gravel, and even now, the planter bed has gravel in it.I was approached by several customers who thanked me for taking actionAnother pair commended my husband for his "parenting" skillsThese unsupervised children were ruining their own dining experienceThey supported our efforts to keep the courtyard pristine, and to stop the destruction, albeit innocent.I believe we made every effort to avoid openly embarrassing these customers Crescent Hill is a family neighborhood, and we do not want to ban children from the premisesThe majority of those who visit are well disciplined and effectively supervised However, it only takes one child seated on the ground to trip a server carrying an armload of hot food, or to injure a patron with flying gravel We most definitely do not want to see anyone hurt because we were negligent of our responsibility to maintain a safe, controlled environment for everyone's enjoyment.I can be reached at any time at ***Please let me know if we need to address this matter further.Best - *** ***Owner, operator
