Our experience with Red Seal was terrible We chose them because they agreed in writing to complete the work within a set time period As we were moving and changing schools, the time frame was imperative They did not complete the work even close to on time yet insisted they had complied The trades all seemed to be hired at the last minute and we were most often the ones on site to give instructions as to what needed to be done We were asked to make "selections" with little notice as they told us it needed to be done immediately We would panic to send our choices but then the tasks would sit undone for weeks Flooring we chose from a retail store was not going to be available for when we needed it but we were not told this until it was too late We ran around and found a replacement ourselves, even renting a truck for the delivery Other items chosen went up in price while we waited for Red Seal to order them They even complained about having to come out to the job suite to make sure that hardware colours matched Doors were installed opening the wrong way, the wrong paint and paint colours were used, floors and walls were scratched and splattered with paint The furnace vents were full of debris including metal and chunks of drywall Our shower door glass was broken and installed upside down and part of the water barrier was not applied They left the furnace blasting and a window wide open while it was cold outside then later painted the window shut and told us that it must have been that way before When we asked them to clean off the drywall compound that was splattered on our new toilet, they scraped the finish right off They said they would pay to professionally repair damage to our newly laid hardwood floors but when we showed up one weekend we found their [redacted] bag of Minwax and stain pencils [redacted] We would send photos of or examples at a time of [redacted] work or damage which they would just add to their "punch list" They asked for money up front and a fair bit again shortly after starting the work while refusing to provide an itemized account A few examples of what we had to fix and are still dealing with include openings of non-standard size, damage to our new floors, crooked doors, a squeaky shower that pours water out the sides and bottom if you try to use it, faulty plumbing, peeling silicone sealings, wires sticking out, blotchy and drippy paint Eventually we asked that they not come back They said they were willing to fix all of the problems but whenever they returned it seemed that more issues that would need fixing would arise As we tried to figure out a reasonable settlement of the bill in light of the failings, the damage and the work that was not completed, they would impose arbitrary and narrow deadlines threatening litigation if we did not comply We are not new to the renovation world We have never had an experience like this

Our experience with Red Seal was terrible. We chose them because they agreed in writing to complete the work within a set time period. As we were moving and changing schools, the time frame was imperative. They did not complete the work even close to on time yet insisted they had complied. The trades all seemed to be hired at the last minute and we were most often the ones on site to give instructions as to what needed to be done. We were asked to make "selections" with little notice as they told us it needed to be done immediately. We would panic to send our choices but then the tasks would sit undone for weeks. Flooring we chose from a retail store was not going to be available for when we needed it but we were not told this until it was too late. We ran around and found a replacement ourselves, even renting a truck for the delivery. Other items chosen went up in price while we waited for Red Seal to order them. They even complained about having to come out to the job suite to make sure that hardware colours matched. Doors were installed opening the wrong way, the wrong paint and paint colours were used, floors and walls were scratched and splattered with paint. The furnace vents were full of debris including metal and chunks of drywall. Our shower door glass was broken and installed upside down and part of the water barrier was not applied. They left the furnace blasting and a window wide open while it was cold outside then later painted the window shut and told us that it must have been that way before. When we asked them to clean off the drywall compound that was splattered on our new toilet, they scraped the finish right off. They said they would pay to professionally repair damage to our newly laid hardwood floors but when we showed up one weekend we found their [redacted] bag of Minwax and stain pencils. [redacted] We would send photos of 10 or 20 examples at a time of [redacted] work or damage which they would just add to their "punch list". They asked for money up front and a fair bit again shortly after starting the work while refusing to provide an itemized account. A few examples of what we had to fix and are still dealing with include openings of non-standard size, damage to our new floors, crooked doors, a squeaky shower that pours water out the sides and bottom if you try to use it, faulty plumbing, peeling silicone sealings, wires sticking out, blotchy and drippy paint. Eventually we asked that they not come back. They said they were willing to fix all of the problems but whenever they returned it seemed that more issues that would need fixing would arise. As we tried to figure out a reasonable settlement of the bill in light of the failings, the damage and the work that was not completed, they would impose arbitrary and narrow deadlines threatening litigation if we did not comply. We are not new to the renovation world. We have never had an experience like this.

We met with Cory from Red Seal Builders on a few occasions. Our intention was to build a large extension onto our home. Cory spent many hours coaching us through things and making suggestions that were in OUR best interest. We had met with a few other builders prior to contacting Cory after a friend recommended Red Seal Builders to us. We were very impressed. Although our plans have changed and we will no longer be building the extension to our home, we will be keeping Red Seal Builders in mind for future projects and will highly recommend them.
