We did a project for this lady. There was a ramp put on her sidewalk to get rid of the step because that is what she wanted. I put a different finish on the ramp to have a better traction for her. The woman had to go to the hospital...

because she wasn't doing well. All of a sudden the son and daughter decided they did not like the ramp that I put in for her. I told them they were not here when I poured it, or when we wrote up the estimate/contract. She did not have a lot of money to spend so we did 3.5 inches on the porch trying to save her money, and not tearing out the whole porch. She paid me $1,000 extra and I returned the check to her within 1 minute of her giving it to me because it was too much. The job was $700 in materials but I charged $1400 for the whole job with labor included. I tried speaking with the son and daughter but they were more concerned with how the property would look after she went to the nursing home for selling purposes. I was pleasing my client, not them. There was no problem until the son and daughter got involved. They thought she would fall on the ramp, but they really prefer the step for the look. They were never present when the deal was done. I was trying to please the home owner first. The son wanted to be aggressive and I told him I would cut the ramp out and put the step back but I would have to change that per code. I said I would mix it by hand but we can't do this in the winter and have it freeze. He was finger pointing and I was going to charge $170 for a job that would have been well over that amount. I did not accomplish going back and doing the caulking for her. I have not gone back because of the attitude and disrespect I was receiving from the son and daughter. We poured concrete, and there was a little bit of cement on the bottom of the siding, so I sent a man back to paint the siding so that the cement would be covered. This was not a big money job and I was there 4 different times (driving from MO to IL), and the only thing is the caulking was not completed and it was $15 for the material and a 20 minute labor I did not fulfill. I am guilty of that, yes. Because of their attitude and ways, it never happened. I will contact the consumer about this but the son should have been there to begin with not correcting after the job was completed. He doesn't want the ramp because he wants to sell the house with a step. Whoever pays the bill is who I try to please, and that was the woman, not the son and daughter. I can ship him over $15 of caulking, or I can send him someone over to finish up the caulking job that was not complete

I did not want the ramp. I wanted 2 small steps and concrete. The mortar on the bricks looks bad and they did not caulk the siding around the porch.

6/3/2015 10:25: I have not sent [redacted] to finish the work because I cannot get in contact with the [redacted] is in assisted living now. I will get you the contract when I have it in my hands. I went above and beyond the terms of the contract. All that is left to do is 3 tubes worth of caulking. I have behaved admirably throughout this process. The [redacted] are mad because they want to sell their mother's house, and the ramp makes it more difficult to sell.
