After 23 years in business I have to say this is a first hearing a complaint like this.  The customer had a fire in the apartment above the garage.  Our contract, signed by the homeowner, was to...

remove all drywall, floor coverings, doors, cabinets and fixtures damaged by the fire.  Including existing wiring and plumbing fixtures. We installed new insulation, drywall, electrical, plumbing, flooring, windows, doors, roofing, gutters, painted the interior of apartment and exterior on North, South, and West side of garage area.  Contract #1 is $55,288
 
The customer then decided to have work done on the main house so we did a second contract. We were to paint the exterior of home, replace all windows and trim with new (which includes 14 windows and 1 sliding glass door) and to upgrade the existing furnace to an 80% furnace.  Then the customer decided to upgrade from the 80% furnace to a 95% efficient XR95 gas furnace.  Contract #2 is $18,515  
 
A change order describes the additional / extra work needed or upgrades requested to items and is signed by the homeowner before any materials or work is begun for that area.  We have 3 change orders, all signed by the homeowner, for a new 80% Trane gas furnace, new heat ducts, cold air returns and an upgrade to casement windows in bedroom of the garage/apt. to meet Egress code.  Also, to install new Cedar bevel siding on West and South side of garage, replace sub-flooring in bedroom, and add a new attic access in the main house.   The customers comment made about the electrical not working in the main house, we did no electrical work in the main house, only electrical work in the apartment due to the fire.  The 3 Change Orders total $18,715
 
The allegations made by the homeowner that we went $40,000 over the 2 contracts is absurd and not true!  We were $18,715 over and it is due to the 3 change orders, which are all signed and agreed upon by the homeowner.  The customer still owes us $2,135.03.  The job was completed July 22, 2014.

Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:The busyness owner is not being honest. I did not ask for additional work orders I was told these changes has to be made an as this was an insurance claim the money was to be used to put the home back the way it was taking into account different building codes. Mr. R[redacted] failed to consult me on any choices except paint an colors of carpet and counter tops. Mr. R[redacted] presented me with work orders with multiple option except one an that was in relation  the gas furnaces. Based of efficiencies an cost and was later informed I had to get the most expensive by Mr. R[redacted] while standing in a store picking out colors for the apartment an flooring for the main house the I though could get done but due to his miscalculation as well as misinformation and failure to overseen the project to ensure it was done correctly.  Mr R[redacted] indicates $55000 original bid an $18000 additionally. But was paid $90000 approximately. The numbers don't add up. An he continues to refuse to give me an itemized statement of cost of items to include labor as he states to me he doesn't have to provide me with this information. In addition it was my understanding that he was paid in full when he got the last disbursement of $24000. To date he has mot provided me with any information.Sincerely,[redacted]
