This company calls stating that there is a problem with your computer. My almost 70 year old father signed up for their computer maintenance service. They call every so often stating that there is something wrong with his computer. They ask very invasive questions. If my father does not answer, they call again and again and again. They are calling from India. They are more than persistent. They will ask when he will get home. They harass my mother. They call her a liar if my father is not home when she states he will be home and he is not when they call. You can barely understand them. This morning they have been calling stating that there is a problem with my father's laptop. They say they monitor it. I have another computer maintenance service for my computers and they never call me stating that there is a problem with my computer. I call them. This company must have 24/7 access to my father's computer...including personal, banking, and any other information. I do not know if this is a scam, but they act like it. Originally they stated that they bought out the company that my father had a maintenance contract with. Even though the contract was cancelled, they talked my father into a new contract. I researched this company and they have a very similar name to a web design firm in Florida, Something like Redstar. At the time of my original research, the owner had an address in Arizona. Now thy go my the name [redacted] and they work out of a city in California. If you do further digging, you can find them on a site called [redacted] where they state all the services they offer and they say they have over 50 professionals. At the bottom of the description, there is a fact sheet that states the company only employs 11-25 people. The employees are calling from some sort of sweat shop because you can hear what sounds like hundreds if voices in the background. I believe this company is a predator because when I answer the telephone and ask them questions, they do not want to answer they will hang up.

Red Star Technologies, Inc has made multiple calls to our house since March 2, 2014. All messages were by the same caller always indicate problems with a threat, i.e. hacking from within the US or by foreigners to my husband’s PC computer. When the caller calls, there is always excess background noise and the person is difficult to understand. English is his second language and, if another person calls, English is his second language. The caller is insistent that he speaks with my husband. If he isn’t available, he wants to know the time he will be available. The approximate time is given and usually the caller returns his call about the stated time. When asked the location of the company, he would say, Peoria, AZ and the receipts indicated the same location.

for 6 months payment via credit card

We received calls from numerous friends/relatives stating a
fictitious email had arrived from us. At this time we lost use of
the computer. My husband contacted RST, Inc. and after many
hours our personal files, desktop files, pictures, and email files
were retrieved. My husband sat at the computer the entire
time. [redacted] – RST, Inc email indicated I still owed for the Support Plan
06.27.14 – RST, Inc called and indicated my husband’s computer was
threatened by two different foreign hackers. As a result, the tech guy
wanted to sell him a one year, three year, five year or lifetime, except I
could not use [redacted] or a credit card. He insisted that I go to a local [redacted] and purchase a Green Dot Money Pak card. (Neither my husband nor I had
of his card and didn’t realize the implications of payment with a Green
Dot Money Pak card.) After my husband gave the tech the numbers from
the card, he asked the guy for a receipt. The tech kept giving him the
runaround and claimed he would send the receipt. The tech and someone
else kept working on the computer problem. Suddenly, at 5:00pm they stopped without sending an email receipt, and would not answer any calls.
06.30.14 my husband called RST, Inc. and asked for the same tech. When
the tech came to the phone, my husband asked for the receipt. The tech
told my husband that the payment wasn’t made. He wanted my husband
to return to the local [redacted] and purchase another Green Dot Money Pak card. My husband ended the call. After he was off, we discussed the situation and decided that he wouldn’t go after another card. During the afternoon, the tech called and asked my husband for the card. My husband told him he wasn’t purchasing another card because he had already paid the bill. When the tech heard my husband’s response, he said he was going to remove all the security programs from the computer and then tech abruptly ended the call.
On July 1 I called the Sheriff’s Station and explained briefly the situation. A Sheriff came to our home and read my summary sheet. He also looked at the various receipts from RST, Inc. Since the two DocuSign sheets indicate a legitimate company, the only recourse would be to take RST, Inc to small claims court.
