Reese's Tire & Automotive Tire Pros Reviews (3)

This is the first negative review I have written about any company, but my experience was so bad that I felt I had to warn others. I have a car that has a key with a lock and unlock button, like many cars have. Years ago the original key broke so we had a standard key made (no buttons) and ordered a separate uncut key that had the lock/unlock feature as it was much cheaper. Both keys need to be present in order to start the car, which my husband and I had forgotten. We removed the standard key from the keyring for a tubing trip. When we returned the car wouldn't turn over. Unfortunately we didn't realize until far too late was due to the keys being separated.

On a recommendation from friends who do a lot of business with Reese's Tires and Automotive, we had our car towed to them. My husband spoke to a man named Tyler at Reese's after diagnostics were run. Tyler realized the problem right away and asked us to bring the other key in. He informed my husband that there would be no charge as long as that was the problem. Great! We are thinking that this is an honest shop.

I had a friend bring me to Reese's expecting to pick the car up and be on my way. When I arrived they informed me that my battery was dead and that they would have to charge it, strange, but okay. My husband checked the battery and tightened all of the connections before it was towed to them. I gave Carl the buttoned uncut key I had brought and followed him out to my car. He hooked up a charger and proceeded to try to shove the uncut key into the ignition. I respectfully pointed out that the key was uncut and he needed to use the other key keeping the uncut key next to it. I was concerned he would damage my ignition. He flat out told me I was wrong, so I again politely pointed to the fact that the key he was trying to insert was uncut. Annoyed, he tried the other key and it started right up. He then informed me that I needed to let my battery charge for 15 minutes. I said I would be getting right on the freeway without stopping so it should be fine. He insisted, so I waited. After about ten minutes I went back and said I thought it would be okay and that I had a friend following me back. He became agitated and told me it had only been charging for a minute or two, clearly untrue, but I said okay and against my better judgement I waited another ten minutes and went back in. Tyler enters my info and I explain that my husband had spoken to someone who said there would be no charge. In the meantime I hear Carl trying to start my car repeatedly, so I go to the car. He doesn't have the buttoned key next to the other key, looks at me and then picks it up and the car starts right up and idles normally, hmm. I go back in and Tyler says he reduced the fee and sends me to the front office to pay.

Remember, I have heard my car start up and idle twice normally with no problem. When I come out of the front office my car has been moved and is not running. Strange, why would a mechanic turn off a car when he is concerned about the battery, a battery that he had me wait 20 minutes to have charged? I get in my car and my previously intact buttoned key is in pieces. I hold it together well enough to start my car and it immediately dies; I try a couple more times, same thing. I look up and directly in front of me, in the garage, Carl and another older man are staring directly at me; the man with Carl is laughing. They don't even turn away when I look at them. Other mechanics are milling around and I inform them that something has been done to my car as nothing was wrong with it. In the meantime my key falls completely apart again and one of the other mechanics puts it back together. They pop my hood and my battery is completely loose in the car. What the heck? It was obviously loosened after it was moved. I inform the younger mechanics that something has been done to my car and that I am being laughed at. They look, see him laughing, and say that he isn't a nice guy. They tighten up the extremely loose battery, look at other parts and tell me that fuel is not getting to the engine. I explain that I am 100% sure that there is nothing wrong with my car and that something has been done to it, how else could it have been moved from point A to point B while I was in the office? Fuel was getting to my engine with no problem before it was moved. I also point out that my key was in one piece when I brought it in. I call my husband and inform him of what is happening. He calls Tyler and informs him that his next call is to our friend who does a lot of business with them. Tyler comes out, quickly does something to my car, drives it around the block and it is completely fine. He is apologetic and polite. Never have I encountered anything even remotely like this. If we hadn't known someone who did quite a bit of business with them I have no doubt that my car would still not be running.

After some time finally dealing with the owner of the business, I am very happy with the outcome. The owner here truly does care about his customers and his business, while the initial dealings were not good, once the owner got involved things went smoothly and trouble free. We found resolution. This is what makes a good business. Everyone makes mistakes, but how they are handled is what really matters.
