I went to emergency room for gall bladder ultrasound. They checked my insurance coverage and then proceeded with several tests that I did not need.After performing the tests that I complained about while they were doing it because I didn't think my insurance would cover it, all the while telling me that my insurance would cover all of it because they checked it out. I got a bill for $3453 which insurance would not cover. I called several times over a 6 month period to talk to billing. It wasn't until 2 letters and threatening to call the Revdex.com that they finally returned my call. They told me they had to perform the tests to rule out other problems even though I told them my doctor sent me there solely for an ultrasound because he had already checked out everything else. #individuals also supposedly checked with my insurance company about my coverage after my protests and all told me the same thing' that all I had to pay was the $100 copay and insurance approved the rest. My insurance company advised me that they did not approve anything from anyone on that date, let alone 3 different requests from the same hospital. After 3 hours at the hospital and my last protest of telling them that I really didn't think my insurance was going to cover the x-ray they wanted to do after everything else. The last nurse left the room, returned 15 minutes later saying I just had gallstones, removed me from all the machines and sent me on my way. The staff saw a chance to make money by charging the insurance company for unneeded medial tests and when they found out it wasn't going to be covered they quickly sent me away. Now they want payment for the tests they did perform that was not requested in the first place.Desired SettlementI think the hospital should stand by their original assessment that I only needed to pay the $100 that was paid to them. All the rest was their fault for not actually contacting the insurance company and misleading me. I would never have stayed and had any ultrasound had I known that it was going to cost me $3300+. It was never an emergency situation. I was sent there by my doctor because they had no ultrasound to detect gallstones at his office. They also need to train their staff to not only check insurance coverage but give all pertinent information to any client seeking their help. It is totally wrong to defraud people trying to bilk an insurance company and then giving bogus reasons the insurance won't cover the tests and trying to then bill a client who they informed there would be no bill. at the very least, all I should be charged for is the ultrasound. No other tests, no emergency room visit, nothing else.Business Response This account has been discussed previously with the consumer. He was notified that a deductible had to be met with his insurance company. Our Patient Access Director plans to call the gentleman today (1/16/14) to discuss this account with him again. Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)no one has contacted me except for the woman who finally called me on Dec.2 after 6 months of trying to get in contact with her. At that time, she told me basically tough luck pay up. They don't call the insurance company although the girl who first took the insurance card told me she did call and did get approval. She also said they can do whatever tests they deem necessary and I am just supposed to pay the bill. This is fraud to the nth degree.Final Business Response This case is being handled by our Chief Financial Officer. He is working diligently to resolve this issue.
