Review: I am filing a complaint against RIS Regional Installation Specialist Inc & its owner John K[redacted] (Class A Contractor #[redacted]).

On June 1, 2015 I signed a contract with K[redacted] to remodel my homes exterior. This included covering front of home with faux stone panels, building walled courtyard/pavers, replacing front door & installing electrical outlets. Labor/materials: $21,000. As of June 28, 2016 the project is incomplete. improperly done and failing.

K[redacted] began work Aug. 4, 2015. Contract completion date: 15-20 days & included 1 year warranty. By Sept. K[redacted] was showing up less & less; excuses for not showing & promises to finish were endless. In Oct. I sent an email asking for completion date. He responded with "I will do everything humanely possible to finish ASAP." I received many similar emails through Nov. with his work on the project becoming less frequent.

Contract specified K[redacted] would be paid in 3 installments (each a third of labor price quoted). 1 payment at project start, 1 in middle & 1 at completion when I was 100% satisfied. Yet K[redacted] kept asking for checks (some made to him, some to his wife) & unfortunately I kept paying. I hoped if I paid he would finish. I wrote last check Dec. 14, 2015 with his promise to finish. That was the last I saw him. Calls were ignored & emails ignored or the issue (problems with work, not finishing) not addressed. Some of the incomplete work/issues include: 1. faux panels require EXTENSIVE caulking (covering large area). Caulking far from completed (giant gaps) & where done it is failing 2. Panels improperly installed & some popping off (improper surface prep). Panels were attached with nails & painted. Nails are now rusting through the paint. Nails that rust are not recommended by the manuf. 3. 1 electrical outlet not installed. 1 installed was "hot" I received a shock when touching it. Requests to replace ignored (DPOR said K[redacted] has no electric specialty). paid electrician to replace.Desired Settlement: This project is incomplete, poorly done and failing. It is clear to me now

that K[redacted] had no idea what he was doing with this project. When I brought

attention to certain things (especially caulking and gaps and failing panels) he

told me to basically not to look...it will all be fixed and he will go over with a fine tooth

comb at projects end and it will be perfect. The project end never came. I do not want

K[redacted] to finish job. He did a poor job and shafted us. I also (but can not prove)

that he stole from us. So, I would prefer a refund from him for roughly a third of the labor

costs we paid. This amounts to $3,500 and will just be enough to cover paying

another contractor to clean up the mess RIS and Mr. K[redacted] left us. We have already

paid to have the front door and electrical outlet replaced. These are jobs we already paid RIS for.

Review: Complaint Type- That's a hard one to narrow down with this company. Check all above should be an option. I hired this company to complete renovations on a home that I recently purchased. Things started off on the wrong foot with the correct license not being held by the company. Work started over a month after the projected date and never finished. Not that they're still at my house, they never completed anything. Among the many renovations that were to be done the only one that got finished was a new roof. I'm chalking that one up to an outside company being hired. However a new roof is only fantastic if you have properly working gutters to correctly drain the water from the newly redone roof. Everything between a kitten they thought was a snake in my crawl space to drinking on the job to threats from a person they hired to put a mechanics lean on my house to dodging my phones calls happened after that. The guy that they got to come in to do the plaster repair, repaired the wall paper on the plaster. Only after a piece of the 'fixed' wall paper came off on me and myself spending 12 hours stripping the walls was the proper repair completed. Only in that room, not the rest, which was followed with threats of legal action towards me because he had not been payed. The gutters were hung improperly, which has caused my new roof to leak. They took it upon themselves to enjoy drinking on the job, which probably lead them to believe the company they hired to seal my crawlspace finished. There is still an entire room under my house that hasn't been sealed. The walls are not sanded, the plumbing they fixed still leaks.Everything they did that was considered completed has crumbled to inadequate repairs, and that which was not finished is still sitting. This is how they treated someone they know. I can only imagine how they treat business with someone off the street hiring them. I strongly advise to avoid them, unless you liked being dodged in every aspect of communication.Desired Settlement: I will be looking into legal action to take against the company. I can not trust the work that needs to be fixed and still completed to be done so by this company. I only want the money back for all the repairs that have not held the handful of months time.
