System. The Nurse or Doctor that pronounces that person dead usually does this and they sign the death certificate. The certificate is also signed by the certifying physician or in this case a Licensed Practical Nurse, after writing in the cause of death and the place and time of death. The funeral director signs the death certificate after they write in all the biographical information that has been given to them by the family. The funeral director is only responsible for the section in which they sign. The mistake was made by the certifier. That information was provided to the certifier by the Medical Examiner. As a courtesy to the family I had the certifier agree to file an amendment with the State of NJ and have the death certificate corrected, That process takes 60 to 90 days with the State of NJ.I explained that to the family, Now the family wants me to pay for new corrected death certificates, That is not my responsibility. If the mistake had been made by me I would do so. Mrs Drummond can obtain the copies by contacting the Health Department in the town in which her mother passed away. In this case that is [redacted]
