Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
Regards,
[redacted]

This company is a scam. I had heard that they would likely try to get out of paying for any issue that may arise. But, I tried them and signed up for all of their options. The first time I had an issue, they said that they hadn't received my payment. However, I pay through [redacted] and I have a credit on my account. Neither "Reliable" Homeworks or [redacted] notified me of any issue. Then, when I called, they informed me that they hadn't received payments from [redacted]. Save your money and don't pay them a penny. One way or another, they'll find a way out of serving their customers.

Review: In July we encountered a gas leak at our home - a technician from [redacted] came to our home and fixed it promptly and correctly. He told us that it would be a good idea to purchase gas line and sewage line protection and that we could contact [redacted] for the information. We did this, and at the beginning of September we submitted the required seven month premium to Reliable Homeworks. My wife, [redacted] even called to make sure the policy was in force after not receiving a confirmation after several weeks. She was informed that they did receive the check, and it was cashed.

Last night at 11 pm, December 27, we had a sewage line backup. We called plumber, at the time our basement was flooding, and left a message. He came this morning at 8:30 am and snaked the pipe to remove the clog.

He also used a camera to view the overall problem. He told us that a portion of the line was sagging and needed repaired. We informed him of our insurance, and he told us that in his opinion it would be covered.

I then called Reliable Homeworks and filed a claim. They asked for my phone number and said that a contractor would soon call me to evaluate the problem.

Fifteen minutes later I was contacted by Ms. Holly K[redacted], inside sales representative, stating that she was very sorry that there was no coverage in my area and she was refunding my insurance premiums. I told her that this was unacceptable and unfair since I entered in the policy in good faith and my payment was accepted and check was cashed. In short, I was certain we were covered.

She stated that she was glad that she was able to find their error so soon and was going to refund our total premium. We believe Reliable Homeworks would have continued to take our premiums had we not posted a claim. Simply saying "I am sorry, I made a mistake" is not a satisfactory response for an insurance consumer to hear.

When I asked to speak to a supervisor, she told me that she was unavailable but would call me. I asked for a phone number of the supervisor, Vivian S[redacted] but Holly would not give it to me. When I asked when I would be called, she was vague and simply said "soon".

I feel that we were scammed and taken advantage of by this insurance company. We would like the coverage that we purchased to be honored.Desired Settlement: As I stated above, we feel the coverage should be enforced on the policy we purchased. We feel that a plumber in our area should be contacted and the situation evaluated.

Review: My husband and pre-paid for Reliable HomeWorks protection plans. However, we sold our home July 23, 2015 and Reliable HomeWorks never refunded our remaining months of protection plans. From the last gas company bill I received (where this billing was tracked), we should have received $162.05 back. I tried calling them and when I did speak to someone, they claim prepaid service plans are non-refundable. That just seems wrong all-around. After getting a letter just today reminding me that my policies are expiring and offering to renew, I've decided to file a complaint. They didn't even both to record that we a.) called in and b.) that we moved and so now we continue to receive solicitations from them.Desired Settlement: Do the right thing and refund the service plan balance for July 23, 2015 onwards ($162.05). This position was previously communicated to Mr. [redacted] in a phone conversation that took place on September 14, 2015.To summarize the sequence of events for this matter, on September 14, 2015, Mr. [redacted] called HomeWorks to advise that he had moved from the above-referenced property and requested that HomeWorks refund his remaining pre-payment credit. The total pre-payment credit at that time was $82.95. Mr. [redacted] was advised by the HomeWorks representative on that call that no refunds would be issued for pre-payments, as was disclosed in Section A7 of the HomeWorks Agreement enclosed herein which clearly states that “Reliable HomeWorks will not refund any pre-payments made to the Protection Programs.” As such, no refund was available to Mr. [redacted] under the terms of his agreement with HomeWorks.Accordingly, we trust that this letter is responsive to your correspondence and will serve to fully insulate HomeWorks from any adverse claims raised by Mr. [redacted]. Review: Purchased a sewer line protection policy and paid this policy for ten plus years. Company refused to dispatch a plumber when sewer backed up. Company representative accused my husband of breaking the sewer line which could not have been further from the truth. I have never received a policy in the mail until refusal from company to honor policy. I was never advised that there was a length restriction in place for sewer lines. I was sold a Bogus Policy by this division of Equitable Gas. I also attempted to file a PUC complaint only to find this division of the company was not regulated.Desired Settlement: Refunded my money for the total cost I spent on this policy.

Response:

In response to your October 22, 2013, e-mail to Equitable Home Works (“Home Works’s) in

connection with the above-referenced matter, Home Works has reviewed its file on the matter and

responds as follows.

The customer contacted HomeWorks concerning his sewer service line because he got his own

equipment stuck in the line.

This claim does not qualify under the customer’s agreement with HomeWorks. The problem was

created by the customer and is expressly excluded under the HomeWorks Programs Terms and

Conditions, Section A4, which state the Programs do not cover line repair or replacement for

damage from acts of the Customer or third parties.

In summary, the customer reported that his own equipment was stuck in his sewer service line,

and requested HomeWorks to remove his equipment. This is not covered under the Sewer

Service Line Protection Program.

EQUITABLE HOMEWORKS

Review: We purchased gas and water line protection programs from Equitable Gas Homeworks for a year. They advertise in flyers and on their website "By paying just $4.30 per month, you can protect yourself against line leaks and repairs that can cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars. Discounts are available if you choose more than one Program, or if you prepay." (http://[redacted].However, in January 2014 (the last month of our current contract), we experienced freezing pipes and low water pressure in our house for an entire week. After a certified plumber and representative from [redacted] (our water service provider) came to our house to assess the issue, each found that we may have a clog / crack in our service line from the main pipe to our house. We contacted Equitable Gas Homeworks to report this issue and see what they would cover. We called them on a Monday evening, it took my husband to call on Wednesday for an update. The representative told my husband that the issue isn't covered because they cannot confirm that the underground line is broken / leaking. This may be true that one cannot confirm if the line is broken or leaking without further investigation. However, being the company that provides a service, shouldn't they offer a form of investigating such as hiring a plumber to use a camera to see what the real issue is?Lastly, the representative who my husband spoke to was very rude and unwilling to speak at all, let alone offer any alternatives.Desired Settlement: I feel like Equitable Gas Homeworks failed to investigate the claim thoroughly to back up their denial reason. I am very displeased with the level of service received and will not be enrolling in a line protection plan again. Why offer a service if you are not going to do what is required to investigate a claim? If I could get a refund for our year prepayment, I would be most happy.
