Remax Realty Reviews (7)

Bad experience with Remax
My wife and I recently moved to Knoxville, TN, to start a new medical business and looked into renting. Interested in a house on Zillow, we submitted an application and $40 each for a background check (a real scam, for sure, but common realty practice in this area). A day later my wife received a very interesting email from the Remax agent (Holly) which stated she would not be considered for the rental because of her adverse background record check (My wife worked for years in the courts; she has zero record). Shocked and inquiring further by email, Holly stated my wife had an "extensive criminal record" including evading police. This is absurd. We responded the Zillow report was completely clear, and she responded that she "does not rely on Zillow, but does her own report through a third party vendor. We then also paid for a third party background check through a top background vendor supposing someone could be appropriating my wife's identity, and this report was also clean. At that point we bypassed Holly and requested to speak to the office broker, Kim. Kim at least was willing to speak directly to us, but otherwise was dismissive after discussing the above with Holly. The sole Remax response was recommendation for us to contact a lawyer to expunge my wife's non-existent criminal record. Kim was completely unmoved by our story or possession of a completely clean background report, or willingness to provide the report. Asked repeatedly for information on who provided the adverse report and who ordered it was met with silence.
My brother owns a Remax office in Greenville, SC, and he was flabbergasted at the poor interaction we received.
At this point, there is NO WAY we will interact with Remax in the future, and hopefully this review will inform and warn others of the Knoxville area real estate climate.
We have since moved into a wonderful rental house under another business and property manager, and of course they performed a background check (clean). By the way, this business will provide a copy of any background report on request (we have copies of this one as well).
Thanks.

Review: I recently purchased a home that Remax Realty was the listing agency. Prior to the closing, I noticed two items were not property addressed. The items were to be restored to the original conditions, which is the terms of the agreement I signed when purchasing the property.

A sink hole formed during replacement of the sewer line before closing, which was the Remax responsibility to address. The contactor for Remax did not properly compact the backfill and topsoil. It has been over 1 month and numerous emails and this problem has not been addressed.

Carpet padding was not replaced when the basement floor was cut up during the sewer line replacement. Again, the basement was to be restored to the original condition in agreement with the contract terms. Numerous emails were included with the sink hole issue also.

They told me they would address both problems and I've not had any satisfaction or contact from Remax since 5/9/16.Desired Settlement: fill in the sink hole from the sewer line, replant grass and replace the carpet padding.
