Business responded to complaint See attached.Business response copied and pasted below by Revdex.com staff 1/20/15.January 19, 2015Revdex.com Euclid Ave, 4th Fl.Cleveland, OH 44115lD# ***Mr***’s house had three layers of roofing on it dating back to the early 1900’s
whenthe house was built(The bottom layer was slate) This roof is particularly difficult because ofthe steep pitch and the amount of debris.Precautions were taken to protect the propertyMr*** alleged damage to thedownspout, a siding panel and later to his bathroomThe damage to the downspout appeared tobe the result of water freezing inside and expanding, and there was no visible damage in thebathroom such as a stain in the drywall. As far as the untimely clean-up, the customer was told we would be back Monday topolice the yard for any debris under the snowWith regard to the blown off shingles, any newroof needs time to seal downThere is a soft sticky material on the bottom side of every shinglewhich needs to adhere to the shingle or material belowDepending on the weather conditions, itcan take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of monthsUnfortunately, on November24, we had m.p.hWinds(we have done several roof projects as a result of this storm)AsMr*** points out, we were there the next day to take care of the issue.Insofar as Mr***’s concerns about the quality of materials used, they are what we"contracted for and moreThe product is Atlas Pinnacle, we used 30# felt instead of the standard15# felt, ice guard was used from the gutter line up 36” and also in the valley of the dormer.Starter strip, aluminum dripedge, aluminum valleys, box vents and step flashing along dormer wallwas also installed under the sidingThere were no short cuts taken. As to Mr***’s “amazement” at ice forming on the nails in his attic, it is a normalconsequence of warm moist air coming in contact with a cold surfaceThe same thing happenswhen you open your inside door on a cold morning and the storm door fogs up and frostsOn ahot August day you place a glass of ice water on the table and it leaves a water ringThe glass isnot leaking and the storm door is not defective, you have created the conditions for condensationto occur.p.2When you allow moist heated air into the cold attic space the moisture will condense onthe cold surfaces, the nails and the bottom of the roof deckingWhen the temperature gets abovefreezing the ice will melt and the water eventually evaporate as it does in the unheated portion ofmy attic.Given that Mr*** or the previous owner of the house installed a room in the attic, the probability that heated air is escaping into the uninsulated attic space is highWe suggest heproperly insulate the knee wail, closet and access panels of the room with a good quality vaporbarrier type insulationAs Mr*** has chosen not to contact us with the problem but insteadchosen to slander our reputation with a complaint to the Revdex.com, we feel unobligated to assist himfurther with his problem.Despite the dubious nature of his complaints and his passive aggressive nature weaddressed them immediately and made the repairsHe demanded compensation of $forhis alleged troublesOn Dec 2, we issued him a check (#9881) for $(copyattached)We will also provide a material list to the Revdex.com of the products used on Mr***home. As Mr*** and Ms*** are “accusing” Remodeling Associates of“ fraudulentlyinstalling our new roof according to the contract agreement - legal action may result. Finally, according to the contract, Mr*** was obligated to pay the deductible portionof the insurance settlementWe are obliged to collect the debt otherwise be party to insurancefraudWe respectfully ask that the copy of the cancel check and material list be keep inconfidence.Sincerely,Remodeling Associates, Inc.*** *** - President

In response to the letter Remodeling Associates forwarded to the Revdex.com,First, I would like to clarify that Remodeling Associates is trying to falsely justify themselves and discredit my formal complaintThe real issue is that from the very beginning, things went the way they weren't supposed toNow that we are continuing to experience different issues with the present one being condensation and water leakage which we never had before, Remodeling Associates have lost their integrity by refusing to admit they did any wrong.I want to point out the fact that after the roofing installation (which took multiple visits), Remodeling Associates states to the Revdex.com that they had informed us that they were to clean up all debris the following Monday when in fact, the project started on November 15th, and my wife and I ended up cleaning the mess on November 22-23rd because they were negligent on the clean up(Snow was no longer a factor because the snow had already melted)I suggested to Remodeling Associates that before continuing unto further projects, to complete the current ones to the satisfaction of the customers before moving on to any other roofing projects. No effort was made to make the cleanup timelyWe later demanded some compensation for having to clean up the debris ourselves and for the damaged garden lightsRemodeling associates wrote us a check with a minimum amount of $after having to dispute with them that we wanted compensation for having to clean up the mess they failed to clean up in a timely manner. As I stated in the initial complaint, on November 24, we had water seeping into our newly renovated bathroom on our first floor after the roofing project had been completedWe had water seeping in because Remodeling Associates had failed to lay the roofing sealant material to seal itI understand that there was strong winds that made matters worse but, they had failed to seal the roof which was a major factor as to why water was leaking inOn November 25th Remodeling Associates stopped by to seal the roof, fix the roofing shingles that had blown out and replaced some siding that was damaged in the back of our homeGutters that were warped due to bending from laying ladders on them were fixed to look a bit better and a few downspouts were replaced and readjusted by Remodeling Associates Why did Remodeling Associates start to work on our roof if weather was not appropriate for roofing installations? Cleveland Weather was 33F degrees on November 15th,and much lower with the wind chills. A Certified Installer recommends the temperature to be 40F degrees and rising with as much sun as possible. They do not recommend you installing the shingles if they have been in freezing temperaturesThey suggest to let the shingles be thawed so to speak and at least 40F degrees or higher because if you try to nail them when they are cold they will crack underneath on the back side and that can cause a shingle to fail and leakAlso, you want to install them to a warmer roof deck so the plywood will not expand and contract to quick and cause the nails to back out breaking the seal of the shingles as well
*** & *** ***As we are currently experiencing Winter, we have a condensation and water leakage issue in our fully insulated attic (How did Remodeling Associates determine that our attic isn't insulated?), we currently want to keep this dispute open until weather permits further assessments of any repairs that may need to be made.Thank you for your time,
