I am sorry to hear about the complaint from [redacted] They sent us a $50 deposit to hold the date for a wedding in 2015 after a short phone discussion...
about their wedding plans. When we got the check we did what we always do, mark them on the calendar and deposit the check to our bank.
The first we heard of this NSF check was when Ms. [redacted] called us. During that conversation, Tom explained to her our normal business practices. He also told them if there was anything we could do to help them with their bank, to let us know.
We have a contract with a local business, Finance Systems Inc. Whenever a check bounces, our bank sends the check to Finance Systems, Inc. We have been with them for over 15 years. They have hundreds of small business customers just like us. This company will try to get the amount of the check plus the bank fee we are charged when a check bounces ($20) collected for us while keeping a small additional fee for themselves. We never get to see the NSF check, or get any notice of it until our bank statement comes at the end of the month.
We contacted our bank to see if there was any error on our part or our banks part. They researched the matter and found that no numbers were transposed with the transaction they summited to the customers bank. Therefore, if money was taken out of the wrong account it would be the customers bank that made that error.
When the customer called to cancel their wedding date due to this situation, they did not ask for the deposit back. As of now, we have not received the $50.00 payment. Once the payment is made to Finance Systems, we would be more than happy to return the $50.00 minus any charges we incur due to this matter.
We sincerely regret this situation for the customer. However, neither our business nor our bank decides which account the customers check is deducted from.
Renard's Catering has been in business for 30 years and our main focus is always for our customers to have a wonderful catering experience with us.
