I scheduled an appointment for an oil change and to have brakes looked at/changed, fully knowing the brakes needed work. Only the oil change was done - brakes were obviously not even glanced at. When I was called to say the car was ready, I was told there was 8mm of material left on the front brake pads and 6mm on the back. I questioned it when I got there because over a year ago, I had much less than that (4mm and 3mm) and they were grinding/squealing. The receptionist went to talk to the mechanic, and came back with a different answer, saying I had 6mm on both the front and the back pads, they just needed "lubrication" and that would make the grinding go away, and my car was "safe to drive". The discrepancy between a year ago and now was blown off to someone typing it in wrong last year. Driving home, the grinding became SO loud and SO intense, I wasn't sure my car was going to stop. My husband immediately took it to a different shop for a second opinion, to which we found out there was literally NO brake material remaining on the front brake pads, and 4mm remaining on the rear pads. My car was absolutely NOT safe to drive, and did not simply need "lubrication". If the tech had even glanced at the brake pads, ethically, he should not have sent my car out of the shop. Yet, I received no phone call saying the brake pads needed replacing immediately. Instead, I was lied to and sent out on the road in a car that put not only my safety in danger, but the safety of my infant in danger as well.I feel extremely blown off by this shop. I scheduled this appointment specifically stating my brakes had squealing and grinding and were at the point they were going to need work, and it was not taken seriously. It was not noted on the appointment reason (only the oil change was), and the man checking me in that day simply scribbled "check brakes" on the paper and looked at me like I was incompetent and didn't take my concern seriously. I will not be utilizing this shop for services again.Desired SettlementI want the Revdex.com to be aware of the safety hazard this business caused me by not doing their job, lying to me, and sending me out the door in an unsafe vehicle. Sadly, since they did not perform any actual billable work on the brakes, I know I cannot seek any kind of a refund - the "checking" they did was included as part of the "courtesy check" that comes with an oil change (tire rotation, brake inspection, etc). It is my hope to help prevent this from happening to someone else in the future.Business Response [redacted]August 12, 2016RE: Case # [redacted]: Allison [redacted]To Whom It May Concern,On August 9, 2016 I called this customer and left a message for her to return my call. She returned my call on August 10, 2016. At this time, I explained to her that I did not believe we properly inspected the vehicle and informed her that I would further investigate the complaint. I also explained to her that we do train our technicians to adhere to proper inspection procedures. In this case I found that the technician did not properly perform the vehicle inspection. Due to this situation, I did terminate the technician's employment. I did apologize several times and inquired to the patron if there was anything I could do to help remedy this unfortunate event. I offered financial remedy including an offer to pay for the brake repair or provide several lube, oil and filter changes at no charge. The customer informed me that she would deliberate with her husband and call me back.Thank You,[redacted]Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she ACCEPTED the response from the business.)I received a message from [redacted], as he indicated in his response. I called him back the next day, as it was after business hours when I received the message. [redacted] was very polite to talk to, and apologized greatly for the situation that happened. He stated that is not how he runs his business and that he was horrified that my car was sent out of the shop not being cared for properly. He explained that is not the way their technicians are trained, and that the technician that worked on my car that day had been terminated. As he stated in his response, he did offer reimbursement for the payment for the brake job/oil changes at no cost/etc. My husband and I discussed it at length as we were not expecting a response like this. I called [redacted] back on 8/15/16. My husband and I did not feel right accepting payment for the brake job. It was something that needed to be done anyway, and was an expense we had walked into the appointment that day already expecting to pay. Because of how [redacted] handled this situation, we felt comfortable taking our car back to this location, so we decided to take [redacted] up on the offer for oil changes.[redacted] has been very pleasant to work with concerning this matter. In filing this complaint, I honestly wasn't expecting to hear anything from the company - let alone an honest apology and to hear the technician at fault had been fired. I am very grateful for how [redacted] has handled this situation. He has taken it very seriously, and took the necessary steps to make sure the individual at fault did not do this again at his shop.
