Mr*** came to the dealership to look at a used Yamaha FJR we had, his existing bike and trade in was on older model Yamaha FJRHe gave the FJR a complete inspection along with help of two or his friends and then test drove the vehicle and said he wanted to buy itWe agreed
to take his bike in trade and he agreed to return later in the week and take delivery of the FJRAs planned Mr*** came in re-inspected the FJR, swapped some of his accessories from the trade in to the new bike, completed all of the paperwork, took possession of the bike and title and paid for the motorcycle. Later he returned and was concerned because according to him the handlebars would shake when he let go of them and applied the rear brakeThe handlebar shake he described is common in all motorcycles and more pronounced in bikes with windshields and fairingsThe FJR in question has both a fairing and an oversized touring windshieldI told Mr*** we would check the bike out and rebalance the front tire to insure everything was in spec but he would have no part of it insisting that he had a day Right of Recession and wanted a full refundAt this point I took the bike out for a test ride and drove it at 60, and 70MPH free handed with absolutely no problemI then took the bike up to speed and it tracked perfectly and was vibration freeI was able to duplicate the handlebar shake by applying the rear brake while slowing down with no hands on the handlebars and this is completely normalAlso there was no sign of handlebar wobble when one or both hands were in contact with the handlebars during slow downThe oscillation that occurs when the bars are not stabilized can be described by spinning a top which rotates smoothly at speed but then begins to wobble as the top slows, the motorcycle does exactly the same thingAs a matter of safety 70% of a motorcycle's stopping ability comes from the front brake which can not be applied when your hands are not on the controls, our belief is that Mr***'s complaint is the result of improper driver technique and no fault of the motorcycleAs a matter of good faith we still make the offer to check the bike out and rebalance the front wheel in an effort to reduce the oscillation which is normalHopefully this information will help and considering that the customer complaint iis based on our experience we consider the sale of the FJR as completed

We offered to immediately balance the tire for *** but he would have none of itI called him on Tuesday to personally follow up and he told me that he and his wife had been riding the bike and he thought the Dunlap tires were noisey so I told him to have his local dealer install a new front tire of his choosing and to send me the bill and we would pay for itHe appeared to be satisfied and said he would do soTo date I have not recieved the bill for the new front tire but once recieved we will reimburse him for the cost of the tire and the installHopefully this will conclude this matter and we hope the Yamaha provides years of good service and enhoyment

I am rejecting this response because: Inaccurate statements provided by the businessAt no time was an offer to balance the tire madeIf it had I may have acceptedAs for the statement that the condition was duplicated, that did not happen eitherBut for a company that denied the existence of ”tank slap” as an issue in their business, it was a pretty good explanationToo bad they were too busy mocking me at the time.
