Review: I rented a motorcycle from Rent-a-Ducati.com on May 24, 2014 and paid a $2000 security deposit. I picked the motorcycle up at GP Motorcycles in San Diego, CA (an affiliated location). The motorcycle had a tip-over in the parking lot (not an accident) and sustained very slight damage. I was able to ride the motorcycle several hours after the tip over. Most of the cosmetic damage was incremental to already scratched/damaged parts. On June 13, 2014 via email, [redacted] (Rent a Duc, LLC owner) offered to return $1000 of my deposit "if an estimate didn't come back the next day." It did not; however, my deposit was never refunded. Several weeks later (on 7/8/2014) after pressing him to refund my money, he presented a separate estimate for $1,089.33 in parts and $603.00 for labor + tax totaling ($1,789.46). Rent a Duc, LLC refunded $210.54 to me on 7/9/2014. My primary complaint is that a) Rent a Duc made a written offer to settle these claims for $1000 but did not honor it; b) as to the new estimate, much of the parts/damage listed were already damaged and I should not be charged full replacement value; and c) Only minor repairs were made to the bike--few, if any of the parts were actually purchased and very little of the labor was performed. I should only be charged fair market value of the used parts and only for the labor performed, not this contrived estimate from a affiliated business (GP Motorcycle did the estimate--conflict of interest).

I am willing to pay Rent a Duc, LLC $1000.00 for these repairs as was originally offered, in writing; therefore I am requesting a refund an additional $789.46.

Review: We had a very enjoyable time riding the motorcycles we rented from Rent-A-Ducati with pick up at SBK Corse in Orange County, but within an hour of returning the bikes on June 6th, we realised we did not have the plate #s to pay the toll road charges online, which we knew needed to be paid within 48 hrs. SBK Corse could not provide the plate #s so we contacted [redacted] at Rent-A-Ducati for the info. [redacted] promised to text the info to me later in the day but by the next day we still had not received the info. I called again to tell him that we would be leaving the hotel (and wifi) shortly, to contact me ASAP with the plate #s. When I did not hear back from him when we were leaving the hotel, I left another message asking him to go online and pay the tolls and advise us of the charges, which we would reimburse him for. On July 11, I got my Visa bill and saw that [redacted] had not yet refunded our 2 x $2000 deposits paid (which [redacted] had stated by email on May 15th, would be refunded upon return of the motorcycle on time in as-rented condition). I contacted him and asked why our deposits were not refunded, AGAIN requested the plate #s of the bikes we'd rented and also sent him a summary of my notes about our communication on the matter by email. On July 14, we received partial repayment ($3600) of our deposit, but $400 is still outstanding. Despite several attempts to reach [redacted] since then, we only received the plate #s from [redacted] on August 7th, along with a statement he forwarded from The Toll Roads showing that in addition to the initial $18 in tolls incurred, there was an additional $800 in penalties for unpaid tolls. We know that we made every possible effort to get the information needed to pay the tolls online within 48 hrs and so cannot possibly be held responsible for the additional penalties incurred due situations that were completely beyond our control. Because the bikes are not ours, we have no recourse with The Toll Roads. We want our remaining $382 deposit ($400 - $18 for tolls) refunded.Desired Settlement: We want our remaining $382 deposit ($400 - $18 for tolls) refunded. We feel we cannot be expected to be responsible for The Toll Road penalties since it was impossible for us to pay these tolls ourselves within 48 hours since [redacted] did not provide the information required to do so despite repeated requests directly after the rental ended.
