Rent A Painter

Review: I entered into a contract with Mr. [redacted], owner of Rent A Painter on April 1, 2015. The initial contract was for both exterior painting, the painting of one small interior room and a touch up of children's handprints on the walls near the stair rails. We agreed that the paint to be used was Behr Swiss Coffee which easily matched the surrounding walls. Mr. [redacted] assured me the interior would be completed by April 6, 2015. My initial deposit was $1,500.00. Painting was to begin the following day. Two days later an employee finally showed up, laid down plastic covering, left and did not return. I contacted Mr. [redacted] 3 hours after the employee left, he stated he forgot to tell the employee to bring a ladder. From the very beginning of this project, Mr. [redacted] made promise after promise which he failed to keep, while making incredible excuses for each situation. When the painting finally started on April 7th, it had an unusual yellow tint to it, and did not match the surrounding walls at all. Mr. [redacted] stated that this was due to the paint company modifying the paint and it would dry to the proper color. This did not happen. I noticed the paint being used was not Behr but Glidden, a much darker paint. Once again I notified Mr. [redacted]. By April 10th when the paint had not been corrected as promised, I told Mr. [redacted] that I no longer wished to hire him for the exterior job and would like a refund of the deposit excluding the $550 interior paint job which he promised to correct. Mr. [redacted] advised me that he had spent my deposit on an apartment job he was painting. On April 17th I finally received the remaining $950 from my deposit and entered a new agreement for corrections to be completed by April 19th or the $550 would be refunded to me. Mr. [redacted] failed to correct the paint job nor did he return my $550. The business addresses he listed on his stationary are both apartment complexes and none of his phones are currently working. He is also not responding to emails.Desired Settlement: Refund my money immediately as I had to hire a painter to correct the extremely obvious unmatched paint he had applied. The contrast to the surrounding paint was startling and very unprofessional.
