Rent A Wheel is requiring that customers come into there establishment to close out an account during COVID-19 lockdown.
Rent A Wheel is requiring that customers come into there establishment to close out an account during COVID-19 lockdown. In an instance where the account is not paid in full (same as cash) within 120 days. The account will suffer further additional charges and extended contract deadline. I attempted to close and pay my account on 4/18/2020 at 120 days. I was asked to instead come in on 4/20/2020. I called in 4/20/2020 and asked if the business has established other means for customers to close account for example electronic payment and I come in to sign after the state lock down is lifted? I was told "no, you have to come in to close the account, it's just the way it is". I asked if they could send the document within a pdf and I could return by email again I was only given the option to come inside the establishment if I wanted to close my account. I was told "unfortunately we don't make the rules" I then explained my health and safety concerns with traveling to this business which is out of my county which puts me at higher risk because there are 3 times as many cases where this business is located I was told " another customer just made the same complaint" , but again I needed to be present to sign. I asked who I could speak with that makes the rules and was told "I don't know the number but you can google rent a wheel corporate office". I googled and call the corporate office in California and had to leave a message.

Desired Outcome

Refund in the amount of 384.61. Since this is the final bill amount that I am required to be present and pay by the end of business day 4/20/2020.

In order to meet my obligation on 4/20/2020 I called and asked Jeff if I would come into the parking lot would someone be able to take my payment information and then give me the papers to sign without having to physically come inside. He replied "there's only one paper and I'm not sure if we can do that it depends on how busy we are". I arrived at 5 PM and gave them a call to let them know I was there. I waited in my car in the parking lot until 6:05 and called again the asked if someone would be assisting me the associate apologized and sent out Jeff. Jeff told me he needs me to come inside to sign the pin pad and he would give me a mask and gloves. I replied that I would be making the payment with the same card on file. He sighed then said "let me move these cars around first" walked away shaking his head. I waited again for another 20 minutes. When Jeff returned I was told my card needed to be physically ran and I was putting him at risk for losing his job. I refrained from responding, only saying thank you and confirming his name. The transaction was finally completed at 6:23pm. An hour and twenty three minutes later. I total I was required to come and pay in person was $233.77.

Was told that I had a 1 year warranty and billed for the warranty. I tried to use it 3 months later and am now told it's not marked on my file.
I spent over $1200 on tires in October 2019 and was told by the manager, Jose, that I have a 1 year warranty that covers road hazards. I was told that if the hole in a tire could be plugged they would plug it, but if it was near the sidewall they would replace the tire. January 20th 2020, I called to use the warranty. I was told the warrantywwas not marked on my sales receipt. I told the sales person I purchased the warranty and the amount is reflected in my total sales price. The sales person called me a *** and told me I didn't have one marked on my account but I can come down and buy a new tire. He said that I probably changed my mind about the warranty at the last minute. Which I did not. I told the salesman to have the manager Jose, whom sold me the products with warranty, to call me. The salesman called me back within 30 minutes and told me he gave my informationtto Jose, and Jose would be calling me back. It has now been 3 days and I still did not get a phone call. I have a witness that was with me named *** that heard Jose telling me what was covered on my warranty. The product is Nexen brand tires, model Roadian HP, size 265/50RXX XXXv

Desired Outcome

The damage is on the sidewall of the tire so, per the explanation of the warranty, I want the unrepairable tire replaced.

In this case, Mr. was explain our program but he wanted to pay cash. At the first encounter we did not have the tire in stock. We did charge Mr. the special order fee of $25.00 plus tax (total $26.75) and placed the order. When the tire arrived we called him and he came in to get them the same day. Once we rang up the total it came up to $1268.48, including the road hazard that I recommended to him. Mr. said he only had $1182.88. In total he only wanted to spend $1,200.00. Told customer I will take out the road hazard and give him two weeks to decide to get it. He said he will see and left. He came back in about a week and purchase some cleaning kits from us and neglected to get the road hazard. We again did explain to him the warranty. Like before he stated that he did not want to pay for the warranty.

The business response it completely fraudulent. I did not pay cash. I was approved for $2175 through their credit system which is with the company called Acima Credit. I never said I could not afford the extra money for insurance. I never requested insurance to be removed from my bill. I am providing the Acima Credit approval email I received as I was speaking to the manager at Rent-A-Wheel store #315. Additionally, I paid the Acima Credit loan within the 90 day same as cash period, further showing I was not in need of cutting corners by eliminating insurance from my purchase.
I have provider screenshots showing the date the loan was paid in full,as well as Acima Increasing my limit for doing so.

Mr. we call all account cash account that do not finance thru us. Our company focus on our service. It does not benefit our company not to sell you the road hazard. The best thing to do here is to bring in the vehicle and let us examine the tire and the store manager can go over option with you at that time.

First of all, your previous statement said I was short on cash so I could not afford to add the warranty. I provided the approval for over $2100,and the tires were around $1200 installed. Therefore you were not using the term "cash" in the way you claim you were. Also, it does benefit your company to not sell me the warranty. The warranty is around $85, a new tire is $252(your price). Therefore if I do not have a warranty I will not get a tire replaced for free. I will need to purchase a new tire, which nets you $167 over the cost of the warranty. Furthermore, you want me to bring the van in to show you the tire. However, it has been a month or more since I got a flat. So, of course I have not been walking around for 30+ days, and I have already replaced the tire and Walmartddisposed of the old one. The really disappointing thing is, that the same exact tire cost me $108 +tax at Walmart. In other words, I could have purchased all four tires and had them installed at Walmart for the price of two tires at Rent-A-Wheel. Another problem, last weekend I drove on the highway and had severe vibration coming from the rear of my vehicle. First I thought Walmart did a poor job balancing the new tire. But after having the two rears rebalanced, it turned out that the Rent-A-Wheel tire was off by 2.50, while the Walmart was only .75. Therefore the vibration was from the poorly installed tire from R-A-W. All I am asking for is no more lies and to be reimbursed for the tire I purchased at Walmart. I will attach the receipt.

(The consumer indicated he/she had nothing new to add)
It's obvious the business does not do quality work and does not speak truthfully when selling their products. Let's not forget that their $252 Nexen brand tire costs only $108 at Walmart, with a better installation at Walmart. Consumers beware.

On 12/15/18 purchased tires and wheels under the 120 days same as cash. I paid them off before the 120 days 4/14/19 and they are still charging me.
On 12/15/19 I purchase wheels and rims under the 120 days same as cash from the Rent-A-Wheel located at 1100 34th St S, St. Petersburg, Florida 33711. Total pay off amount is stated as $2430.36 tax included. I told the manager Frank A. P. to make my weekly auto withdrawals enough to have them paid off in time. I put $200 down and made weelkly payments of $112.71 with no problems. I went in on 3/30/19 to pay off them off, but still needed my tires rotated, he made me believe I would loose my VIP benefits if I paid off and I would have to pay for the rotation. I paid $750 on top of my regular weekly payment then asked him for my total pay off amount, he wrote down $208. I asked, "so I will be paid in full by the next 2 payment and within my 120 days?' He verified, "yes." They have been charging me $13.99 weekly for this program which is supposed to Insure your tires from any incidents, they would be covered, I showed my scratched up rim and he said they do not cover that. I was told they would be covered no matter what, as long as you were paying for the VIP Program. On 4/20/19 I noticed they took another payment out of my credit card. I called right away and JR said I missed my 120 days, I immediately drove down to talk to Frank. I asked him why I was still being charged, he stated I missed my 120 days, but he could not explain his reasoning, all he could say is , ***, it's the 20th!" I asked what that had to do with anything, I paid them off last Saturday on 4/13/19, and all he could say was the same thing over and over, "it's the 20th!"
I went home and did the math, I actually had paid them off on 3/30/19 with an over payment of $210.29.
Model # WLVERHXXXXXXXXBM x 4
Model # TRAMPXXXXXXXATPRO x 4
I have every piece of paper and everything documented.
I asked him to fix it, he simply stated, "Sorry ***, there is nothing I can do!"

Desired Outcome

As of today, I have been overcharged in the amount of $550.42. I would like my overpayment back and for them to stop charging my card. I want that account closed.

Thank you for the reminder on this complaint - we have been in contact with Mr. since 4/25/19 and have addressed the situation and are working with Mr. to also resolve a wheel issue.

Unethical sales and customer service.
On 4.16.18, this merchant took a credit card deposit for some new tires and wheels for my 2011 Cadillac that were supposed to arrive Friday. FRiday came and went. Mid-week that week, Eric phoned to say that the wheels I ordered were no longer available but proposed an alternate. Those were allegedly ordered that day (4/18/18) and were to arrive on Monday 4/23/18. Monday 4/23/18 came and went and I was finally able to reach Eric via telephone on Wenseday 4/25, 2018 and learned that the order was again messed up. At this time, I asked asked to refund my Original TD Bank Visa Checking Debit card for the $500.00 order deposit the merchant had previously debited from my account on 4.16.2018. On 4.30.2018 I initiated a merchant dispute with TD Bank since I ahve not been refunded nor am I receiving any return calls or emails.

Desired Outcome

Full immediate refund of the initial $500.00 deposit taken by the merchant on 4.16.2018. Refund should be applied to my original TD Bank Visa Checking Debit Card. No goods or services have been received by myself nor do I wish to continue doing bussiness with this merchant.

We do apologies for any issues this consuemr is having. The 2nd order did come in, at that time Eric did tell me the consuemr was seeking a refund. I called the consumer so we could process that refund to them, as the order was taken over the phone so I don't have the full card information so I can refuned them. I did call the consuemr a few times, but have not heard from them yet. If they have chargeback started , we will not dispute that. However we have not received knows of a charge back yet.

If the consumer has not started a charge back they should call us so we can provide that refund. However if they do have one open we will wait for that notice and let the bank pull the refund for the consumer as we would not want to refund the consuemr two times.

Sales deceptive tactics and misleading, not disclosing all information and pricing for products received.
On Sept 18, 2017 I went Rent A Wheel to purchase a set of rims and tires. After seeing a set of used rims priced at 786.00 I agreed to purchase. Giving them 300.00 down and paying 75.60 a week. After signing and agreeing to per said contract I noticed at the end the manager gave me a print out which balance was different that what was agreed. the manager stated that not worry that was interest and fees if not paid but balance would only be 1,565.64 which I made him high-lite. And i'm stuck paying this ridiculous amount on rims that were used at 4,633.52 I don't mind paying if they were new but this taking advantage of consumers, and not being forth coming on all fees. Also Mark the sales rep gave a complimentary alignment voucher, which found out it was not complimentary and was tacked on balance. Once again Misleading and deceptive. Then months later after working with the amount with them Mark tells me that he wasn't the sales rep that had me sign. they've done nothing but harass me and tack on fees and I see no end to this. I made this mistake by agreeing to this but I don't want anyone else to go thru there methods, misleading consumers. Acct XXXXXXXX Agreement/Ticket#XXXXXXXXX

Desired Outcome

I would like to know how much I've paid into the balance and how much i owe, and how did they come up with 61.29 payments of 75.60 per week. And i cannot see myself paying that amount for some used rims. 4,633.52
